Ron and Dagny had been hanging out, going on little dates here and there, but so far, they haven't made anything official. Ron was fine with that and was happy with how things were going between them. After Hermione, he hadn't wanted to get into anything serious right away. He'd expected maybe a few years before he even thought of that.
And he liked Dagny a lot, but even then, he didn't want to rush things. But after seeing her netpost about nearly getting into a collision, it made him think. He knew she was going to die and that she'll come back, starting her life over. It was just how it is. But what if that was soon? What if she died next month or next week or even tomorrow? Even though she'd come back, he still felt like he had to tell her something.
He arrived at her place, knocking on the door. When she answered, he smiled brightly. "Hey."
*** Dagny had accepted a long time ago that she was going to die over and over again for decades and she was at peace with it. She would die, start life fresh a child, get her memories of her previous back, age unnaturally, and keep on living her life until she died again. It was just how her DNA was built and there was nothing she could do to change that. The thought of death didn’t scare her.
Her near accident today, however? That scared her because she wasn’t ready to die. She felt like she had a lot more living to do before she started over again. It left her shaken the rest of the day and couldn’t finish work fast enough. As soon as she got home, she changed into her PJs and hugged her dad. It was a hug for being glad he was there for her and a hug because he needed it. They’d talked about Mark and she knew that was a hard topic for him so he needed all the hugs. Pizza was ordered after that and she dug into his finest booze with him and her adoptive sister as they waited.
There wasn’t much pizza left by the time they were all done with it and the two of them went to their rooms for the night. Knowing Ron was coming over, Dagny had stayed downstairs and cleaned up until he got there. Dressed in a pair of sweatpants and one of his shirts, she walked to the door when she heard the knock and smiled when she opened it. “Hi. C’mon in” She told him after greeting him with a kiss.
*** Ron returned the kissed, of course. He enjoyed kissing Dagny and took every opportunity as he could to do so. He nodded and followed her, closing the door behind them. "Your dad and sister gone?" he asked when he didn't noticed them. But he spoke too soon when he noticed Terezi who sniffed and winked at Dagny before turning back to what she was doing.
"Nevermind," Ron grinned sheepishly before turning back to Dagny. "So besides almost getting into an accident, how was your day?"
*** Dagny opened her mouth to say yes to his question when she too heard the sniff. She turned to see Terezi and laughed. “I thought you went to your room” She told her sister before she turned back to Ron. “They were gone” She said to him, taking his hand so they could head to the kitchen. She wanted to grab a snack and the last of the booze before they went to her room. “Besides that it wasn’t too terrible. I mean it didn’t rain so that was nice” She replied, opening the pizza box for him to grab a slice if he wanted to. It was just a simple one with extra cheese on it because she was in a mood and it was the kind of mood that cheese helped made better. Her dad and sister helped too but the cheese played a big part.
*** Ron gave Terezi a little smile and wave before following Dagny into the kitchen. "No rain is always good," he nodded, grabbing a slice of pizza. He wasn't too picky about his toppings, so he was good with what they have. "But if it had rained, I could always put a water repellent spell on you." It was what he usually did when it started pouring out.
He fell silent for a moment, chewing his pizza. "Hey Dagny," he began after awhile. "I was thinking... I mean..." Yeah, he wasn't really good at this. He could face dark wizards and other crazy things but the question he wanted to ask Dagny? It was terrifying. Even if he knew she might react positively, he was still scared.
He took a deep breath and blurted out, "I was wondering if you'd be my girlfriend?"
*** “Why are you just mentioning that now?” Dagny asked with a laugh, grabbing the booze to take a drink of it before she went into the snack cabinet to see what they had. Yes, even after eating a few slices of pizza she wanted more food. She had been raised by Kenzi, who was always eating too, and it was just that kind of night.
“Hmm?” She asked as she turned around with a bag of chips in her hands and chips already in her mouth. She’d swallowed her mouth full by the time he asked his question, which was good because she would have choked had she been chewing. “You bet your sweet ass I do!” She replied, tossing the bag of chips on the counter as she moved towards him and threw her arms around him in a hug as she squealed. “What took you so long?”
*** "I'll remember for next time it rains," Ron grinned. Water repellent spells were definitely amazing for when it was pouring out.
Even though he knew what her answer might be, he was still nervous about asking her. When she agreed excitedly as she had, Ron was a bit surprised but still managed to return her hug. "Great, I'm so happy," he smiled and he really was. "And I don't know. Guess I didn't want to rush things or get into anything serious after Hermione. But then I saw your post about almost getting into an accident and it made me realize you might go soon. I know you'll come back, but I didn't want to lose my chance, so," he shrugged.
*** “Dating a wizard has its perks” She commented with a grin. They were just coming into spring now so she would need that spell for sure. Too bad he hadn’t mentioned that when it was snowing! That or a spell to keep her from being frozen would have really come in handy.
Pulling back from the hug, she gave him a kiss on the lips with a big smile on her face. “Me too” She told him before he began explaining his thought process.
Arms still wrapped around him, she ran his hands along his back as she listened to him.“That makes sense. I’m glad you asked now ‘cause it would have sucked to wait until my next life, especially since I won’t remember you right away. Now we can make all kinds of memories that you can tell me about to help me remember you”
*** "Never thought of that," Ron admitted with a grin. Mostly because he was a wizard and the perks he had were things he did every day. Well, almost every day. But she did have a point there. He could do a spell to keep her dry when it rained or keep her warm during the cold winter nights.
He returned the kiss, more than happy that she agreed to be his girlfriend. Though his smile did fade a bit when she mentioned her next life. "I'm really not looking forward to that." One of his fears was that he'd be forgotten by those important to him. Even though things would work out, knowing Dagny wouldn't remember him at first was something he didn't want to think about.
"But you're right, we can make new memories now. Like watching a movie in your room?" he suggested.
***
“That’s what I’m here for, to do the thinking” She told him, tapping her temple for a moment as she smiled at him. She thought he was pretty smart too. They each added something to the now relationship.
“Sorry, I didn’t mean to bring down the mood. It is my reality, though” She pointed out, her smile fading into a frown when she saw how sad she had made him. That hadn’t been her intentions but it happened anyway. Her death and beginning stage of being a child with no memory of her previous lives would always be a downer no matter how it was spun.
“Yes! Let’s do it” She replied, her mood perking back up as she grabbed the chips off of the counter along with some booze. “Grab the rest of the pizza”
*** "Pretty and smart. How lucky am I?" Quite lucky in his opinion. He never thought someone as wonderful as Dagny would like him as much as she did.
He nodded but didn't say anything else on the subject. Yes, her death and coming back is part of who she is. As much as he hated it and didn't want to think about it happening soon, he had accepted it was part of her life. But again, he didn't want to think about that and was more interested in watching a movie and hanging out with his now girlfriend.
"Gotcha," he grinned as he grabbed the pizza box, following her to her bedroom. He'd been to her place plenty of times before and knew where everything was by now. Once inside, he set the pizza box on the bed and sat down. "So what movie should we watch?"
*** She let the subject about her death go as they walked into the room and she flopped on the bed. Laying on her stomach, she grabbed a few chips and ate them, reaching for her laptop as she chewed. “Why don’t we just scrolled through Netflix and see what catches our eyes?” She suggested as she pulled it towards her and opened it up, logging into the Netflix account that she shared with Vex and Terezi. “Needs to be something that doesn’t make us have to think while watching it for sure”
*** "Alright," Ron nodded, grabbing a slice of pizza before he laid down next to her on the bed. Once she had Netflix up, he quickly browsed the selection. She was right, that something that was more fun and didn't make them think too much would be a good choice. He didn't really want to think about anything bad. He just wanted to enjoy his time with Dagny tonight.
"How about that one?" he asked, pointing to her laptop screen. It seemed to be one of those comedy movies that seemed more silly and dumb than anything else. But it seemed to be what they were looking for.
***
“Done” She replied as she clicked on it. Once it started going, she cuddled up to him while laying on her stomach and rested her head on his shoulder. With Ron, a movie, and a bag of chips, she was already feeling better. Good bye crappy day!
