Sonya actually felt herself blush a little. For all she missed the sort of chaos and purpose she felt in the military, and lord knew she was hardly one to pass up a physical challenge, she still couldn't call herself a 'bad ass'.
"I survived and helped win two wars," She finally admitted. "If that makes me a bad ass, feel free to think so."
She still chalked half of that up to luck, either ducking for cover at the right time or finding some way to dodge an attack. Better men than her weren't so lucky, so she couldn't brag about it either.
The talk of him being in prison made her start a little. Who knew better than she did that looks could be deceiving, but it could go both ways.
"Cassie arrived with me," What the hell, it was a small town, he would've found out. "I know a number of..well, call them clans, extended families..but if someone were to go home and their children are left here, they'll take them and and split responsibilities."
Well, that was her theory anyway. So far it had yet to happen, but she figured that would be a worst case scenario. "Things aren't so tight here that kids without parents are left by the wayside."
