Lance was a bit off lately, had been ever since he'd tried asking the sincere way on the horrible advice of a certain defender of his universe. It really was so unfair, but he was trying to roll with it. That meant coming up with a big, grand gesture to ask Molly to Prom and nothing seemed good enough. It was incredibly frustrating all things considered and after two more hours - added to countless others from the past week - he finally threw his hands up. Metaphorically.
"Alright. I am not one to give up easily, but why is it so hard to find a decent big idea for a prom ask? Everything seems so lame online so that's useless. Pleaaaaase tell me you have ideas, Hunk." Lance had started talking even before he fully entered the kitchen but he knew Hunk was there.
"Also that dinner's almost ready because I'm hungry."

Hunk did not have ideas. Not really. But he did have a date so that was one up on Lance already. He just hadn't mentioned it to his friend yet. He was still kind of in surprise about the whole thing.
Standing over the stove, carefully stirring a pot of sauce, he didn't even look back when Lance came rambling in. "Dinner's about half a varga so you have to wait. Ideas...what all have you tried so far? I saw this great thing the other night, with someone's car covered in sticky-notes asking? That's big, right?" It was over the top enough for Lance and Hunk was pretty sure the girl he was after would be kind of into the stuff that meant a lot of clean up. He didn't get it, that was nuts, but he'd heard enough about her.
Maybe he should just ask Shuri for some advice to pass on. They were cousins, or something like that; if anyone would know it'd probably be her now that the sister was apparently gone from town.

"Half a varga?" He was complaining a little bit, but not really. Lance just took a seat at the table and looked a little more pitiful than he thought he looked like. It really wasn't a good look on him. "Smells good though." Hunk was a good cook, honestly probably the best, so it was nice that he took on the majority of the cooking responsibilities for their makeshift household.
"Well, I tried asking the sincere way with flowers and chocolates. That got me exactly nowhere. Molly thought it was a big joke and told me I should ask someone I actually like and who likes me back. I'm pretty sure that means she doesn't like me, but now I can't not ask her." It was the worst kind of problem to have, honestly. "Sticky-notes all over her car? That could be good. Just the right side of annoying, and Clark can help us with it. He was the one who told me to do it all sincere like and that was just the worst advice, clearly. So we can start there. But we should probably have backup ideas. I have a feeling Molly's going to say no a lot more."

"Sincere isn't exactly you," Hunk pointed out mildly. Lance was over the top and goofy and that was what made him a good friend and what made people want to be around him. Jokes were to him what food was to Hunk. No wonder the girl had thought he was playing around with her. He hadn't acted like himself.
"I don't know why you're asking advice from someone who barely even knows you. But yeah. Make him help. Because I'm not. I'm more of an ideas man." That was only half true. Hunk could do action too if he needed to. He didn't want to be a part of something that could very well get them yelled at or beaten on by a girl. Or worse, ruin the cool thing he had going on with Shuri. The girls were tight. He couldn't ruin that. "But if that doesn't work we can come up with something bigger."
The internet was there to help, after all. Because Hunk wasn't an over the top kind of guy who could think of something for this without a little support.

Lance nodded. "I know, I know. But Clark made it seem like that was the best way to go and it's not like any of us have any real luck with the ladies. He's basically married or something." He shrugged. It had seemed like a good idea at the time and it had backfired so spectacularly that he was honestly a little gun shy about the whole thing. But he couldn't just not ask Molly to prom. Now he had to get her to say yes, especially before someone else asked her.
"Will you at least help me buy all the post it notes? I'm going to need help carrying them all home." That was the least Hunk could do. "What about you? Who're you asking to Prom?" Surely he was asking someone. "And did you see that notice about chaperones? Should we sign Keith up?" It would at least get him out of the house and it was 50/50 he'd get dressed up nicely.
***
"Sure, man." Going to buy post it notes Hunk could do. If Lance needed a buddy for that, he'd provide, no problem.
He paused a little before answering the rest of the list of questions. Most importantly his own status on the date front. "I asked Shuri to go," he said, definitely focused on his sauce and not on being weird about it. He wasn't going to be weird. "Well, no, she asked me. But I was going to ask her when she did. So we're going together." That was happening and he had to get himself a suit or something so he didn't look like a complete slob next to her. Because she was going to look like the princess she was and that was for sure. "But yeah. Keith could use some getting out. Maybe he'll actually make a friend with someone who isn't us if he does."
They were just looking out for his best interests.

"Great!" Okay, that was one problem solved as far as he was concerned. Now it was just a matter of pulling it off and making it amazing. Probably sometime next week, even though that was cutting it close. Prom was like halfway into May after all. Whatever. She was going to say yes eventually, even if it was the day before. Of course, the fact that Hunk had gotten a date already totally made his jaw drop.
"What?? Why didn't you say anything!?" Lance was only partially offended. "Damn now I really need to get Molly to say yes. Any chance you can get some inside info from Shuri?" He definitely didn't want Hunk to risk whatever he had going on with Shuri, but surely he could help a brother out.
He got distracted by the idea of Keith actually making a friend and snorted. "Let's not get too ahead of ourselves here," he joked. "We're not miracle workers."
