Who: Trixie Espinoza and Lucifer to start; then Chloe Decker too What: Arrival Where: In town, then Chloe's place When: Saturday afternoon Warnings: Probably not Status: partial gdoc; will add Chloe in comments
Trixie didn’t know exactly what was going on, but she knew that all of the adults in her life were stressed out and keeping secrets. She wasn’t sure she liked Marcus all that much even though her mom really seemed to like him and was kind of glad when her mom said they weren’t going to see each other anymore. Lucifer was way better and Trixie knew that he liked her mom. And she had been convinced for a long time that her mom liked him too.
No one was telling her much though and she was trying to sneak around and eavesdrop, but they were being more careful than usual so it was difficult. Today, she was stuck going to school even though she had a bad feeling that something was going to happen. The last time she had that feeling was when her mom got poisoned and almost died, but no one would let Trixie stay home.
She was debating if she should sneak out of school and go to Lux. Maybe Maze would be there and tell her what was going on. Or at least let her know if she should be worried. Mind made up, she raised her hand and asked for a bathroom pass. She slipped out of the classroom with her backpack and immediately found herself in a strange place.
Uh oh. She was going to be in so much trouble. Thanks to having cops as parents, Trixie knew that if she ever got lost, she was supposed to find a policeman to help her. Luckily though, she spotted a familiar figure up ahead and ran towards it.
“Lucifer!” she called. “I think I got lost.”
***
Lucifer blinked at hearing his name in a familiar and yet utterly unexpected voice. He stopped, then turned towards the sound, raising an eyebrow as he beheld Chloe’s daughter, Trixie. Despite despising children most of the time - they were truly annoying little creatures and he really didn’t understand why humans wanted them at all - he had a soft spot for this particular little girl. Maybe it was because it was Chloe’s...but that was not really something that he wanted to consider right now.
“You certainly did,” he said. Arriving in Madison Valley was certainly ‘being lost.’ Thankfully, he wouldn’t have to take care of her since her mother was here. Having a child would definitely put a cramp in his style.
Still…
“But your mother is lost too,” he said. “She’s here. In Madison Valley, Indiana.” He looked at her for a moment. “Well, come on then, I’ll take you to her.”
***
“How’d I get to Indiana?” Trixie asked, immediately reaching for Lucifer’s hand. “I didn’t get on a plane.”
At least her mom couldn’t yell at her for getting lost if she was lost too. “Is Maze here? What about Daddy?” Maybe everyone got lost somehow. It didn’t make much sense, but she was ten so logic wasn’t exactly her strong point.
***
“I don’t know how we got here,” he said, because it was the truth. Even with the knowledge of the eons, he had no idea how in the world he’d been pulled to this strange and intensely boring place. And if he didn’t know, he very much doubted that anyone ever would.
“Maze isn’t here, no, and neither is Detective - “ He stopped. She was a child. “And neither is your father. But your mother is, so I’m going to take you to her right now.”
He let her grasp his hand, and couldn’t help but think how strange it was that a small child was turning to him for comfort.

In Trixie’s mind, Lucifer was safe and she definitely felt better holding his hand. This town wasn’t as big as LA, but it was strange and that made it a little scary. “What about Marcus?” she asked, her little nose wrinkling in distaste. She hoped that he wasn’t here though she wouldn’t say so.
As they walked, she let their hands swing a little, her backpack hanging off her shoulders.
***
“He,” he said shortly. “Is also not here.” He was glad to have heard from Chloe that the two of them no longer had any sort of relationship. Even if he didn’t have feelings for her, the idea of her dating ‘Marcus’ with what Lucifer knew of him...not acceptable.
“I hope you don’t miss him,” he said, raising an eyebrow at her. “He’s really nothing to be missed.”
***
Trixie stopped walking and looked up at Lucifer, an exaggerated expression of disbelief clear on her face. “No, don’t be dumb,” she said. “I didn’t like him very much at all. Besides, I know my mom likes you.” She’d been convinced of that for a long time and wasn’t shy about saying so to Chloe.
And she was pretty sure that Lucifer liked her mom, so she didn’t understand why they weren’t together. Grown ups were weird.
***
Lucifer looked at her with a newfound appreciation. Maybe all children weren’t absolutely ignorant. This one certainly wasn’t, and he felt an immediate camaraderie with the girl since she wasn’t ‘Marcus’’s friend, either.
“Well, I don’t know about that,” Lucifer said. “After all, she did choose him over me.” Maybe Chloe wasn’t as smart as he thought. No, that couldn’t be it. It was just that ‘Marcus’ had more experience at being a terrible, manipulative person than he did. Well. He thought so, anyway.
***
“Did you ask her out?” Trixie asked. It was entirely possible that he had and her mother never told her, but she thought he just came over a lot and acted awkward. Which obviously meant that he liked her mom, but again, grown ups were weird.
If he hadn’t asked and Marcus had, she could kind of understand why her mom picked him instead.
***
Okay, well, the child had a point. He hadn’t actually. He wasn’t quite sure why he hadn’t except that it had just never seemed like a good thing to do. The time hadn’t been right. And he hadn’t been positive that she would accept him. That thought caught him by surprise. Why wouldn’t she accept him? She certainly couldn’t do better, and he was definitely a catch.
Wasn’t he?
He flashed the child a dark look that was far more annoyed than dangerous in any way.
“We aren’t too far from your mother’s.”
***
The fact that he didn’t answer her question made Trixie smirk. She was far smarter and noticed more than most people gave her credit for and she knew his silence meant the answer was no. “Do you think she’s gonna be mad at me for getting lost?” she asked. She hated when her mom was mad at her especially since she tried so hard to be good. Usually.
***
“No,” he said. “That would be silly. Why would she be mad at you for getting lost, especially in this place? I think she’s going to be glad to see you.”
Parents were strange creatures and could forgive their kids for the most ridiculous things. So this, which wasn’t even Trixie’s fault, wouldn’t be held against her at all. He was almost certain of that.
Finally reaching Chloe’s door, Lucifer knocked, and looked down at the little girl as he waited. She really was smarter than she had any right to be.
