Who: Vex and Sara Lance.
What: Vex needs distractions.
When: Thursday, April 18, evening.
Where: Verdant.
Warnings: Some talk of sex.
Status: Closed | Complete
Vex hadn’t been to Verdant in a while. It wasn’t that he was avoiding the place, because he wasn’t. He had just been busy with work and everything else. But he was off tonight, so he decided to head over to Verdant to see who was working. Hoping that Sara would be there, really. He needed something to keep his mind off home, and everything. So if Sara was there, that would be great. If she wasn’t? Then he would drink himself into oblivion.
And he wasn’t really in the mood to converse with anyone he didn’t know. Even the cute guy who settled down in the seat at the bar beside him. The guy who tried to strike up a conversation with Vex. Which was strange for Vex, because he was usually in the mood for cute guys.
So, without saying a word, he just gave the guy a look. And the guy left. Okay, so maybe Vex Mesmered him to leave. He wasn’t going to admit that, especially since no one here knew of his abilities.
Except maybe Sara.
***
Sara was familiar with Vex’s abilities and she didn’t miss him using them on a guy who was apparently trying to chat him up. That was weird since he was usually the one who was chatting up people, so she made her way down to that end of the bar as soon as she had a chance.
“You don’t seem like yourself tonight,” she said. “What’s up?”
The whole bartender-as-therapist thing was more accurate than she ever could have guessed. She didn’t mind though, especially for someone she considered a friend. And since she enjoyed hooking up with Vex, that made him count as a friend in Sara’s book.
***
He looked up at Sara when she approached him, and offered her a small smile. He knew that she was familiar with what he could do, and that she likely saw him send a perfectly attractive person away. One that he likely wouldn’t mind hooking up with, under different circumstances. He shrugged a bit at her question.
“I just… I don’t know. I just keep thinking about the time I was sent home.” He had been sent home some time ago, he was aware of that. But he couldn’t get his mind off certain aspects of home, no matter how much he tried.
He peered over at Sara, and offered her another smile. “And besides, I came here for you. Not some kind of hot guy.”
***
Going home was a great way to throw a person off, Sara knew that well from personal experience, so she grabbed a bottle of whiskey and two shot glasses. After filling them, she slid one over to Vex and lifted the other one.
“Been there, done that,” she said. “If you wanna talk, I’ll listen. Or I can get you drunk and take you home.”
She paused.
“Or both.”
***
He offered Sara a small smile, “You know you don’t have to get me drunk for me to be agreeable to go home with you.” That much was true, at least. He liked being with Sara, and it didn’t take much to convince him to sleep with Sara. He didn’t even have to be drunk to sleep with her.
Not that he had to be drunk to sleep with anyone, really. Or almost anyone.
“I was just thinking about this guy… Mark, from back home. He was the first person I actually admitted to having feelings for. Not that I admitted it to him…”
***
Having feelings was hard. And dangerous. At least in Sara’s experience, so she could appreciate what he going through. “I think it’s harder to admit that kind of thing to ourselves,” she said. She certainly hadn’t been willing to admit that she was interested in Ava. Of course, she never had much luck with relationships at home or here.
“Especially when you fuck up relationships like me,” she added. It was much easier to keep things casual and just sleep around. Besides, there was no lack of hot people around here who were interested in no strings attached fun.
***
“Oh, I am wonderful at fucking up relationships,” he admitted. “Which was likely why I never told Mark how I felt about him. I was afraid I would fuck things up. I would rather keep him as a friend, rather than fuck up a relationship.” Which was really the truth. He didn’t want to lose Mark, as a friend or anything else.
He offered Sara a small smile, “We can fuck up relationships together, Sara.” Then, after a moment, “By sleeping together when you get off work.” He hadn’t been suggesting they get into a relationship together. Just sleeping together.

“Eh, if it doesn’t get busy, we can always sneak in a quickie in my office,” Sara said. It certainly wouldn’t be the first time she’d done that, no matter how many disapproving looks it earned her from Bruce. “But, yeah, I’m happy to offer a distraction.”
Booze and sex were not the healthiest of coping mechanisms, but they worked.
***
Vex knew that relying on booze and sex was not exactly a healthy way to go about things, but it was what he wanted to do at the moment. He wanted booze, and he wanted sex. They both took his mind off things. So when Sara suggested a quickie in her office, he arched an eyebrow and smirked.
“I think I would like that very much,” he decided. “As long as I can have a shot of tequila for the road.” He grinned at her, and downed the rest of the drink in front of him.
***
Sara would do him one better and she grabbed a whole bottle before letting her staff know that she’d be off the floor for a little while. No one asked for clarification, but she suspected they all knew why. She inclined her head towards the back hallway, giving Vex an expectant look.
***
Vex grinned at Sara’s actions, and the instructions she left for her staff. He rose from his seat at the bar, and nodded. “I think I would very much like to go back with you,” he said with a smile. He eyed the bottle that Sara had grabbed, and nodded in appreciation. He did appreciate the kind of alcohol that she had chosen. And the apparent plans for the rest of the night.
