Who: Enjolras and Chloe
What: Random run-in, we'll see how things go!
When: Friday afternoon
Where: A bench near the Musain
Warnings: Enj is being introspective, assume thoughts of guilt, death, trauma, the good stuff
It wasn't that Enjolras wasn't grateful for this second chance at life. He simply didn't think he deserved it. Of all of them who stood on the barricades that day, he truly felt he was the last who should have been brought to this place. And once, long ago apparently, the others had been given this chance as well.
Why had it taken them all back? Why was he back but they weren't? Was this dome truly so cruel to give him, the one who had led them all to their untimely deaths, a new start but none of his faithful friends? And, cruel as it sounded, Grantaire as well. He had not fought beside them. Hadn't arrived until the very end. Which, of course, was something else to consider. Why? Why even come to him in those final moments? When he could have been given the chance to live, he had chosen to come to his side and die.
This was why Enjolras worked so much. When he had time to think, his thoughts tended to take dark turns. It was those moments when he understood why Grantaire drank so much. Which was how he found himself near the Musain. Grantaire had been brave enough to go in. Why couldn't he? Why was he nearby, contemplating an entire bottle of wine, rather than inside, warm and having a meal?
