It had to be confessed, for the past few days, Joshua had been a little preoccupied. Not for anything with the children directly, though that was always in the back of his mind, but for another recent arrival to the shelter-one that walked on four legs, not two, and covered in short, black fur.
For a week or so, a small, black kitten had seemed to make her home in the back shed of their home, living off of meat scraps and water he'd leave out for her. For the first day or two he just assumed she was a stray, but each time he fed her, the little cat seemed wanting more for love and affection than just food. Any of the strays he'd encountered in the past weren't nearly as social as this cat was, and he took it as a sign that perhaps this was meant to be her home as well.
The past few days were spent at the animal shelter and vet, to make sure she was healthy and didn't have fleas. Once all that was done, he was proud and glad to make it her permanent home. All he had to do construct a small home for her within the shed, so she might be warm and more secure.
He was in the process of doing just that, using two storage containers, straw, and a few blankets. Atleast, that was what he was trying do do.
"Zillah," He addressed the little kitten that was brushing up against his leg. "I'm glad you're happy, but I can't pet you and work on your new home at the same time. I'm not one of the hindu gods with several pairs of arms."
Though he imagined how handy that would be right now.
