WHO: Dream & Death. WHAT: Sibling time. WHEN: Yesterday evening [backdated]. WHERE: Their place. WARNINGS: Slight sibling bickering. Other than that, not much. STATUS: Closed/Complete Gdoc.
Dream was pretty glad the weather was back to normal. Well, maybe not glad. He hadn't been to bothered by it as he just simply stayed inside or in the Dreaming. But he was certainly a little relieved everything was back to normal now.
But even so, he continued to stay inside. He'd come out of the Dreaming and into the living room. There, he spotted his favorite sibling on the couch. "Evening, dear sister," he greeted her. "How was your day?"
*** Death was enjoying the lack of sharks. She'd worried Del had gotten bored. But it was just this place being weird. That was strangely comforting. Don't ask, she couldn't explain it.
“Hello, brother mine. Nice to see you out and about.” She'd been tempted to be a mean sister and drag him out some day. “Oh, eternally boring this week I'm afraid. You?”
*** "Indeed," Dream nodded. He was glad Death decided to be nice and not try and drag him outside. He wouldn't be too happy about that and would probably just sulk the whole time. Pretty much being the unhappy little brother, even though he was the personification of dreams and she of death.
"Sorry to hear that, but I'm not surprised." She was always bored, though, wasn't she? She and Delirium. He felt like he was the only one who didn't mind when things weren't happening too much. "The usual - making sure the Dreaming is running smoothly and spending time with Setsuna."
*** She was almost always more cheerful than he was..even if she could be downright gloomy. She was the perfect older sister. Death smiled a touch at him.
Death was used to sorting out the problems the newly dead had. And mitigating the entire Family and their drama. This place was downright dull. “Pardon the pun, but you can do that in your sleep.” She teased, smiling.
“I'm glad you and her get on so well.”
*** She certainly was and she was the only one who could get him to do things he otherwise wouldn't do. If it weren't for Death, he wouldn't have tried to free Nada from Hell and make amends with her, or go and get Delirium from her realm after he'd upset her. He also wouldn't have pursued things with Setsuna if it wasn't for his dear sister.
"Perhaps," he said, returning the smile though it was only a slight twinkle in his eye. But Death would know it was there. "But you know I enjoy working.
He nodded. "As am I. I'm very grateful to have met her." Though he probably could've done so either way, but it probably wouldn't be quite the same.
*** She knew him better than he knew himself, she thought. Death was the mother hen of the family. Destiny should have been, but she took to it better. She knew how to goad him into doing things.
The twinkle was not missed, and it made her smile. “You do. And honestly it makes me happy you do. With half our siblings causing drama amongst themselves, I like it when we enjoy our work.”
Nah, he would have have let her that close. “It warms my heart to see you happy again “
*** "Hmm," Dream nodded. "At least we don't have to deal with that here." A part of him was glad that not all of their siblings were here. But as far as he was concerned, having Death around was definitely a positive. He suppose having Delirium here wasn't so bad. At least she wasn't Desire. He was pretty happy his brother-sister wasn't around.
"Thank you, dear sister. I hope the same for you as well." He had noticed she hadn't been her usual happy self, not completely. Not since the whole fiasco with Kenny and he knew she'd be back to normal someday, but he still worried about her sometimes.
*** “Me too, me too.” She didn't like the migraine Desire brought with them. It was enough to push even her past her limits of patience some days. Safer to not have them around. She loved Delirium so she was easy to handle and she didn't get into the same trouble.
“Mm.” She was noncommittal. Kenny meant a lot to her, though not like Nada or Setsuna meant to Dream. She didn't like punishing friends, but it had had to be done. It did rebuild a few walls - though - she'd be amused, she adores him, but she wasn't letting anyone that close for awhile.
The risk had outweighed the fun. Hurting him hurt her and she wasn't fond of such things.
*** "Though I do sometimes wonder if they will show up. Delirium had and I hadn't really expected her too." Still, he hoped Desire didn't show up, even if it was possible. He wouldn't mind as much if any of their other siblings did, but he was fine with not having Desire around.
"I'm sorry you had to do what you did." That was all he said. He had noticed his sister didn't say much regarding Kenny and the whole punishment. He figured she didn't want to talk about it and he certainly wasn't one to pry either. He always figured if she was more open and willing to talk, then she would be. So he didn't say any more on the subject.
"I'm glad the weather's back to normal. I thought only in dreams would I see falling food or flying sharks. Or perhaps in our sister's realm." Both sounded like something from either of them.
*** “I would be happy as we are right now.” she admitted, while she loved all of their siblings, many she would not want bored in this place. Del was a handful as it was, but she was often pretty harmless. Desire would be .. anything but harmless.
“All things have a price to be paid.” she said honestly. Even she knew that. She rarely broke rules, rarely skirted them, and when things forced her to, she had to pay the same price. It hurt, and it was not fun. But what else could she do?
“Me too, I could do with out the rain of spaghetti or sharks.” she cringed, “Hopefully she had nothing to do with it but it woudl be something I can see her thinking up.”
*** "I think I would be as well." As long as Death was still around, he was happy. She pretty much was the only sibling he really got along with. Despite his efforts (yes, he was trying), he still couldn't speak to Delirium without her getting upset and calling him mean or something. But all things considered, she wasn't as terrible as some of the others.
"Hopefully he learned his lesson." Messing with the laws of nature was a big no to them, and Dream, being the stickler for rules and laws that he was, wasn't too happy with Kenny when he'd found out. Sure, he got why he did it but still. In his opinion, Kenny broke the rules and therefore had to be punished.
"I doubt she did," he replied. "I'm certain she had nothing to do with the darkness that happened during that week."
*** Death smiled at him, truly grateful for his presence. She liked having him around, he was level headed. It was refreshing considering some of the people in this town. She preferred some levelheadedness in her life.
Not a lot but some.
“I should hope so.” she said softly, if not, she’d do it all over again. Death did not screw around with the rules. It wasn’t worth the agony for it later.
“That’s true. Darkness isn’t really her thing. Even when she’s mad it’s bright colors, blindingly so.” she laughed softly and smiled. “You have any plans this evening?”
*** Dream nodded. He was aware that Kenny did break many rules without much thought or remorse, but he certainly hoped he learned his lesson this time around. The laws of nature were way more important, probably the most important rules, according to Dream.
"No, she wasn't in the best mood that day." Yeah, he could tell, even if he didn't say anything about it. "And aside from checking in on the Dreaming, I've no plans."
*** Death was tired of being taken advantage of. Even if that hadn’t been the point, it was the end result. And she’d paid for it. That was okay, it was done and she wasn’t letting it happen again.
“So like very other day.” she teased him playfully, “You should take Setsuna out. Do dinner somewhere.” she waved a hand, “yes yes I’m aware neither of you really need to eat but it could be fun.”
*** "Yes. Why wouldn't it be?" The teasing pretty much went over his head. Dream just wasn't one to make jokes and if he had, it was very rare and he probably only done so a couple times in his existence. It took him a moment to realize she was playing around and when he had, he just gave her look.
He was about to point out that dinner wasn't necessary, but she spoke up before he could. As always, it was like she could read his mind. He was pretty sure she knew him better than he knew himself. "I suppose that would be fine," he said. "And what about you, dear sister? Have any plans this evening?"
*** She sighed at him and rolled her eyes. “We really need to work on that sense of humor, Dream.” she teased as she shrugged a little bit.
“No no real plans. I haven’t much to do these days . I’ll probably go bother Constantine or something.” she said with a shrug. Ironic she had been the one to find something akin to a relationship here and now she’d cut ties, more or less, and was encouraging her brother instead.
*** Dream just crossed his arms. "No, we don't," he replied. He saw no reason for it. He was perfectly fine the way his was, no sense of humor and all.
He did frown slightly when Death told him she said she didn't have much to do lately. She usually did and bothering Constantine seemed like a last resort, like something to do only when there was absolutely nothing else. To him, anyway. Maybe she actually enjoyed it for whatever reason.
But he didn't say anything. Instead, he just nodded. "Well, have a good time with that," he said then added, "speaking of which, I ran into him the other day."
*** “Do, too.” She smirked.
It was a last resort. He wasn't nearly as entertaining as he should be..but she was bored..what else was she going to do? She wasn't sure what she should be doing.
“How is he?”
*** "No," he shook his head. He hadn't realized it yet, but they were bickering like siblings just now. Yes, they were powerful being. Probably the most powerful in existence, but that didn't stop them from being like regular brother and sister.
He did felt a little bad. Of all their brothers and sisters, Death was the one he was most fond of. He didn't like seeing her bored. But he didn't know what to do. She was the one who suggested he try and have more fun, not the other way around.
"His usual ornery self," he replied with a shrug. "But I'm sure you'll figure that once you go bother him."
*** They were, at the very heart of it all, siblings. And siblings that were entrenched in their jobs, which meant they all had strong feelings on something. When you’re all powerful, well, it’s hard to fight fair. At least she hadn’t brought out a baguette yet. Right? “I think you do.” she grinned.
Death was pretty good at entertaining herself. But people here were pretty boring, in the long run, and she was really old. She’d seen it all and people here either were afraid of her or far too used to her to be entertaining. It was a rut and she’d work herself out of it. She always did.
“Of course.” she paused, then, “I think you should take her to the Red Pepper tonight. I have a feeling something nice will happen.” she smiled sweetly.
&&& Dream was about to retort back but then he realized what he was doing, which was getting into a silly argument with his big sister. It wasn't like him to do so, plus, yes, he didn't want another baguette incident. So he decided to move on from that.
Hopefully she'd find something to do. She usually did.
He raised an eyebrow at her words, wondering what she meant, but since he trusted her more than anyone besides Setsuna, he simply nodded. "If you say so," he told her. "Guess I shall be going then." He gave Death a farewell nod and disappeared.
