Ella loved working at the Tea House. Her friends had all pitched in at the beginning so that she could keep an eye on Max remotely, but now she felt much more comfortable leaving her son with Grandpa, and she knew Jeremy didn't mind spending time with the little one. It left her to work a few more hours and bring in a bit more money into their home, without infringing on her duties as a wife and mother.
It was near the end of her shift when she was working the counter. She'd just finished putting out all the pastries fresh after the morning rush and grinned broadly at her newest customer. He was very enthusiastic and she couldn't help but want to give him the very best pastry for his tastes.
"I would be happy to assist you, sir," she replied warmly. She'd learned over the years to not refer to customers as 'my lord' or 'my lady'. They didn't usually take too kindly to it. "We have a great many options, all of which have just been freshly made by my own hands," Ella assured him. "Do you enjoy pastries that are more savory or more sweet?"
