Emma and Julian
Julian's heart caught as her lips came close to his fingers, and he felt a rending disappointment when she used her fingers instead. He hated himself for the feeling. He knew it was wrong; against one of the strongest tenants of his people. But then again, how could love really be wrong? He felt rebellion growing inside of him, but squashed it. Because he had to. There was no choice. It was dangerous to give in to these feelings, and he could never put Emma in danger.
"I guess so, yeah," he said, shaking his head. "I wonder if there will come a time when we aren't."
