While Susan was a fan of Christmas, she didn’t like winter in general - primarily because of the experiences of dealing with the White Witch in Narnia when she and her siblings had first gone there. In fact, none of the Pevensies had enjoyed the season very much, aside from the holiday itself; however, since she had not one but two children here, in Madison Valley - both of whom may never actually exist - she had been sure to celebrate the day with them, wanting to give them both a nice experience before they once again disappeared.
Since Helen seemed to be old enough to be left on her own for a few hours, Susan had returned to work and was at the Academy even now, waiting for her students to arrive. She’d gotten their early, and as a result she was shooting a few arrows at the indoor range, warming up her muscles for what ever the day may bring.

Bella was a bright child and she’d figured out that her father had been gone for long enough that her mother was not going to have her in this universe despite Katniss trying to avoid having that conversation. She was fairly pragmatic about the situation though, explaining that she was well versed in multiverse theory thanks to her other mother, Kate, and just growing up in Madison Valley.
It was nice getting to know her and Katniss was actually enjoying their time together so when Bella suggested they go to the Academy to take a shooting lesson, she agreed even though they’d spent a fair amount of time at Bad Axe already.
As soon as the entered the indoor range, the girl grinned. “Aunt Su!” she said, running over to greet the other woman. “Hi!”
Katniss smiled and waved. She didn’t know Susan as well as some of the others, but they were fellow archers and had spent time together so it didn’t surprise her that her daughter would consider the woman an aunt. “Hi,” she said. “This is Bella.”

Susan looked up at the voice and blinked in surprise as a little girl ran over to her. Hearing her say “Aunt Su” was something of a shock, but she recovered quickly to give her a warm smile before shifting her attention to Katniss.
“Oh. Well. Good morning to both of you. I hope your day has been well?”

“Aunt Prim taught me how to make a healing salve!” Bella shared in an excited tone.
Her enthusiasm made Katniss smile as she unpacked her gear. “We’ve been very busy,” she said. “Did you get any surprises?” It seemed like there were a lot of kids in town and she had lost track of the network.

She gave a soft chuckle at Bella’s words. “Well, that’s always good to know. What did you use to make it?”
At Katniss’s question, Susan nodded and lowered her voice a little. “Two, actually...which still seems strange to me. But I will be sad to see them go. Did you receive any others?”

Katniss shook her head. "No, just her, thank goodness," she said. Given her relationship history in town and the previous potential children she'd met, she was very glad that none of them had returned. That would have been far more traumatic than meeting Bella.
"Where are yours right now?" she asked.
