Calix was a little scared to be somewhere he didn't recognize, but his parents had always taught him about what to do in a lot of scenarios. It wasn't quite a kidnapping because none of his would-be attackers were nearby, so that was good. He was just alone. In a strange place. With no memory of how he got there. They had a plan for that, too. He found the nearest store that had computers on display hooked up to the internet and went into the command window like his dad had taught him.
With a few keystrokes, he was pinging the encrypted channels of communication that his parents frequented, since they both used different ones on a rotating basis. Calix hit all of them. He didn't stop pinging them, trying to trace them, until he saw the familiar figure of his mother enter the store. Relief was written all over his face as he walked over to her.
"I don't know why or how, but I'm in the past. I'm your son, Calix Lionel Birkhoff." It was really confusing, but hopefully his mom would know what to do. Nikita could do anything.

Nikita had been in the process of working out when she heard the signals going off on someone trying to get her attention. Counting the signals, it seemed like whoever was on the other end knew all the channels to hit, which was something no one knew. Not even her friends knew all the ones to hit, and the fact someone did put her on edge. Who the hell had that knowledge? She had seen the cryptic message; however, she didn’t give it much thought as she doubted this place had anything for her. Only maybe she was wrong?
Curiosity got the better of her, throwing on a jacket over the tank top, Nikita went to where the signal from the person came from. Entering in to see a tiny little adorable boy, confused even more on how he knew how to hit those channels. Or she had been confused until he spoke. “My son?” Oh god, yeah, she felt sick; however, she wasn’t going to let the kid see that. Instead, she gave him a smile, looking him over. A kid with Birkhoff? That was something Nikita never saw coming, but she could handle it or at least deal with it. “Okay, well we can figure that out, alright? Give me one second and I’m going to text your dad to meet us. Want to get some breakfast? What would you like?”
Kids was a subject Nikita avoided like crazy. Like she told Michael, she didn’t want them. Her as a mother? She’d screw up any kid in her life and it was better for them to be far away from her. Only here she was with one and she was already worried about screwing him up. Pushing all that aside, she kept an eye on him as she sent a message to Birkhoff.
We have a guest and yeah….I think this is someone you need to see in person. I’ll say they caught me off guard. Meet us at Hinkle’s. Yes, she knew that message could be taken in a bad way and Nikita meant for that figuring it would get his butt moving. If he thought it wasn’t serious, then he’d take his time and she wasn’t here for that. “Okay, come on, we’re going to meet your dad at Hinkle’s.” She held her hand out for Calix to take it, heading for the place.

Birkhoff didn’t like the text from Nikita one bit. There were frankly a lot of people that she could be talking about, each one worse than the next. It was more than enough to distract him from the pings coming from his computer every other minute. Church was a menace sometimes and he just assumed that his girlfriend and the AI had gotten into it again, resulting in him getting caught in the crossfire. It wasn’t even remotely as important as meeting up with Nikita so he left a message for Sombra and headed out.
It really hadn't taken very long for Birkhoff to come bursting through the door, a flurry of frantic, awkward activity. He spotted Nikita first and rushed toward her, only to stop dead when he realized there was a kid sitting in front of her.
There was a split second before Callix noticed his father and grinned broadly. “Dad!”
Birkhoff looked helplessly at Nikita. Even though he’d been through this before, it was going to be a minute before he could change gears.
“Dad we got you extra cheese fries,” Callix continued. “And maybe if I finish my whole dinner we can have ice cream for dessert?”
Birkhoff just motioned for Nikita to either scoot over or get up so he could slide in. This was going to be a loooooong week.
