Who: Elena Alvarez, Layla Williams, and their son, Berto What: awkward family time Where: Elena and Rosa's apartment When: Sunday evening Warnings: probably not Status: closed/in progress
Ever since waking up to find a young boy shaking her shoulder, calling her madre, and asking where Mom was, Elena felt like she was in a really vivid dream that she would wake up from any moment. So far, after more than 36 hours, she still hadn't woken up and was starting to believe this was actually real. Or as real as anything was in Madison Valley. Texting Layla to tell her about their son was terrifying and she was grateful that her friend seemed to take it mostly in stride.
Of course, having Layla there and playing happy family made things even more difficult for Elena. She was trying to keep a lid on her crush and this was not helping at all. They were all curled up on the couch watching a holiday movie that Elena was barely following when Berto piped up.
"Madre, can we make enchiladas tomorrow for dinner?" he asked. "It's a Christmas Eve tradition. We always leave one out for Santa. Mom says he needs some protein to balance out all the cookies other people leave."
