Her life in Madison Valley wasn't without it's complications, but Amberle could honestly say that she was much happier here, being alive, than she had been in her own world. She got to live here, to work with her friend and sleep every night with the man she loved. Every moment was borrowed time, so when the Dome threw something crazy at them, Amberle was willing to take it all in stride.
When she heard someone knock on their bedroom door, she woke with a start. "Yes?" Amberle called, already shaking Wil awake. The only person she could have thought it would be was Eretria for some kind of emergency, but it was a younger, male voice that answered.
"I made breakfast!" he said, as if it was totally normal. "Come and get it while it's hot!"
Amberle glanced at her husband as she pulled on her robe. "We'll be right out," she called in response and gave Wil a look that clearly showed some confusion. "Do you think this has to do with that network post?" she whispered.

There wasn’t much in Madison Valley that surprised Wil anymore. He was just as startled as Amberle when someone knocked on their bedroom door, already mostly awake when she started shaking him, and equally confused when he didn’t recognize the voice that called out to them. There wasn’t anyone he could think of who would come into their home and make breakfast.
“It must be,” he said, reaching for his phone to re-read the cryptic post. It didn’t make any more sense now than it had late last night.
A sudden memory flashed through his mind and he sat up quickly. “What if it’s children again?” Last time that happened, not terribly long after his arrival in town, they’d had a daughter who was… rather rebellious and he’d also had a son with Eretria.
He slipped out of bed and pulled on a pair of sweatpants and a t-shirt. “I guess we ought to go see.”

"Children?" Amberle was definitely surprised at the thought and she certainly remembered the situation she, Wil and Eretria had found themselves in last year. With wide eyes, she moved to their bedroom door and opened it, peering down the hall for a moment. The boy was already back in the kitchen though, so she cast a glance at her husband before leading the way.
"Morning Mom! Morning Dad!" Anders didn't immediately recognize that anything was wrong, but when he turned from the stove to put the plate of pancakes on the table, he did see their faces. "Mom? What's wrong?" She definitely didn't look good.
Amberle took a cautious step closer because although that answered one of their questions, it certainly raised some additional ones. She just wasn't sure if she was ready to ask what this child's life was like.
Anders looked to his father. "Dad?"

Wil was struck by how much his son favored him, at least looks wise. With any luck, he inherited more of his mother’s personality and talent. It was strange to hear himself referred to as ‘dad’ and he had a fleeting pang of longing about missing his own parents before shaking that off and addressing the young man.
“Sorry, son,” he said, nearly tripping over the words. “You’ve caught us by surprise though. Do we look younger than you’re used to?”
Since the boy was clearly familiar with this house, it was obvious he was a Madison Valley child and not from some hoped for timeline where he didn’t die and Amberle didn’t remain a tree. Hopefully that meant he was used to unusual things like time travel and would understand that he was visiting them in a time before his birth.
Though Wil couldn’t stop himself from glancing over at Amberle’s stomach, looking for any signs that this child’s existence might be imminent.

Anders looked more closely at his parents and then nodded after a few moments. They did look a little younger, now that he mentioned it. “The Dome is messing with us again, isn’t it?” He shrugged since they were all sort of used to it by now. “Time travel is a new one. Anyway, I’m Anders. Named after my Great Uncle to honor his memory,” he explained. He had grown up hearing stories about his uncle and was proud to carry a name of importance to both his parents.
“What...” Amberle shook her head. “No, we should have breakfast first. But it’s 2018. Just about Christmastime in fact.”
Anders grinned. “Oh great! So we’ll get to go to all the parties!” He was excited about that, though now he wondered which of his friends were in town too. He took a seat at the kitchen table and began to help himself to some pancakes.
It took Amberle a moment but she moved to join him, too. Maybe this would be a good thing.

When the boy said his name and why he had it, Wil's blood ran cold. He hadn't told Amberle about her uncle's death, figuring there was no reason to burden her with that knowledge since there was nothing either of them could do to change it. But of course they would name their child after him and of course said child would not realize that he was possibly getting his father in hot water by proudly saying so.
He was cautiously optimistic when Amberle didn't react to the statement, hoping that either she simply hadn't heard it or misunderstood it. He was going to need to tell her the truth, sooner rather than later, but this wasn't the time or place. Right now, they should focus on getting to know their son.
"You know how people around here like their parties," Wil said.
