WHO: Mitsuko, Toni, and Mica WHAT: Meeting the kiddie WHEN: Saturday morning WHERE: Hinkles WARNINGS: Not much STATUS: Closed/Completed gdoc
Having been here for awhile, Mitsuko was well aware that future kids could sometimes show up. It had happened before but luckily for her, no kid had showed up claiming she was their mother. This time, though, she wasn't so lucky. While she was talking a walk around town, a little girl came up to her and saying "Mommy, I found you!" and hugging her. Mitsuko, usually able to deal with whatever life threw her way, was stunned and too shocked to say or do anything.
It took her a few moments to get her head back on track. She found out that the girl's name was Mica and that Toni was her other parent. Mitsu wasn't sure what to think of that, but she figured she should tell Toni, even if it was gonna be awkward as hell. So she took the little girl to Toni's place, knocking on the door. When it opened, Mitsuko was about to tell her what's going on, but Mica spoke before she could.
"Hi Mom!" she grinned, running over to hug Toni.
***
Toni gave the kid a hug without really thinking about it; she wasn’t about to refuse a cute kid like that a hug - but she raised an eyebrow as she did and looked at Mitsuko over the kid’s head. “Future kid, huh?” she asked, smiling wryly a bit; she had seen the note on the network, but she hadn’t really expected to get any kids herself. She knew it didn’t necessarily mean anything, but it still kind of made her a little happy to think that there was some future somewhere in which her and Mitsuko had a kid - and one who, at least so far, seemed pretty self-confident and happy.
*** "Yep," Mitsuko nodded, a sheepish smile on her face. "It's happened before, but this is the first time I had a kid of my own show up." She knew a few people who had future children show up. She couldn't remember who or any of their names, but she had seen it happen before.
"Said her name is Mica, which is kinda pretty," she admitted. She didn't usually care about names, but she kind of like the name Mica.
***
“Mica, huh,” said Toni. She knelt down in front of Mica so she was at eye level with her. “Well, Mica, since you’re from the future I’m sorry I don’t know you yet, but it’s very nice to meet you and I’ll do my best to be a good mom while you’re around.”
“You’re always a good mom,” Mica said, giggling a little. Then she thought for a moment. “Mostly, anyway,” she said.
“I guess we should get you some food?” Toni said, half to Mica and half to Mitsuko. She wasn’t really sure what to do with a child, but she’d taken care of herself plenty, and food was always a top priority.
*** Mitsuko was kind of glad and maybe a little surprised that Toni seemed to know what she was doing. Mitsuko had absolutely no idea what to do. Hell, she didn't even consider feeding the kid until Toni suggested they go get something to eat.
Mica nodded. "I want a burger!" she exclaimed and Mitsuko just glanced over at Toni with a small smirk. "Guess we're heading to Hinkles. I'll buy," she offered. She didn't know how to take care of a kid, but she figured she could at least do that.
***
“Sounds like a plan. You like burgers, right? Because if not, I’m not so sure you’re my kid,” said Toni, winking at Mica to show she was kidding.
Mica giggled and nodded. “Burgers are the best,” she said. “Can I get a milkshake too?” She looked between Toni and Mitsuko hopefully.
“Fine by me,” Toni said, but glanced to check with Mitsuko since she was the one who was paying.
*** Mitsuko nodded. "Yeah, that's fine. Let's go, I'm actually kind of hungry too now that I think about it." She hadn't had anything since breakfast this morning and all she really had was a bowl of cereal and a coffee. So getting some burgers and milkshakes sounded good.
She lead the way to the diner, not surprised to see it was a bit full. She figured some people would've brought their kids here. Luckily, they managed to find an empty booth and after sitting down, a waitress came to take their order.
"What kind of milkshake do you want?" she asked the little girl.
***
“Chocolate,” said Mica with a grin. She was sitting opposite her two moms, her legs dangling off the edge of the booth seat. Then she frowned. “Or strawberry. Or… both!”
“How about this,” Toni offered. “I’ll get a strawberry milkshake, you get a chocolate milkshake, and maybe Mitsuko will get a type of milkshake too, and we can all share.” She smiled at Mica, who was taking up most of her attention, but she kept some of her attention open to see how Mitsu was faring. Mitsuko was good at looking like she more or less took everything in stride, but Toni was starting to be able to tell when that was really the case or not.
*** Mica nodded. "Okay!" she grinned
"I'm getting chocolate. Chocolate is the best." Mitsuko may have a slight addiction to chocolate. She loved it and could eat a bunch of it if she could. She was definitely getting a chocolate milkshake and a burger. Maybe some fries too.
Once the waitress got their orders, she headed off to get their food. Mitsuko sat quietly and noticed Toni glancing over at her. She knew she was wondering how she was doing with all of this. Usually Mitsuko could keep her thoughts and feelings hidden but Toni somehow seemed to know when she was hiding something. A bit strange and new to her but she wasn't sure now was a good time to talk. Not in front of Mica, so she just shrugged and gave Toni a look as if to say 'I’m okay, but we'll talk later'.
***
Toni gave a little nod and smile at the look, reading it correctly. She figured the best thing she could do for the moment was keep Mica entertained, so she did. “Have I ever taught you the game Shield, Ammunition, Gun?” she asked. It was a game her and some of the other Serpent kids used to play when they were bored, and it was a good way to pass the time; basically it involved banging twice on the table and then choosing one of the three options, with the goal being to shoot your opponent, after having reloaded, while they were reloading.
Mica nodded with a grin - it was something they often played as a family while waiting for things. Two two of them started playing it while waiting for food.
*** Mitsuko didn't mind talk about things, at least with Toni. But with Mica around them, now was not the right time. Especially when it concerned her. So she figured they could chat later. For now, they could just eat and chill for a bit.
Mitsuko had no idea about the game but she was content with watching them play. Eventually their food came out and she grabbed a burger and began eating. "So, Mica, which milkshake do you want to drink first?" she asked, holding both a chocolate and strawberry. She leaned in and whispered. "Pick chocolate because it's obviously the best."
***
Mica grinned. “But if I try the best one first, the others won’t taste as good!” she said back challengingly, but she took a sip from the chocolate milkshake anyway. “Mmmmm,” she said.
Toni sat back and sipped at the strawberry milkshake, setting it on the table after so that Mica could easily reach it. She still wasn’t sure what to do after this, but this was oddly… nice. The food arrived and she bit into her burger, then stole one of Mica’s fries even though she had her own.
“Hey!” said Mica, stealing one back. “You always do that,” she complained.
“Guess some things don’t change in the future,” Toni said with a grin.
*** "You still took it anyway," Mitsuko smirked a bit after Mica had taken the chocolate shake. She grabbed her own and took a drink. "It is pretty good, though," she grinned. Mica seemed to love chocolate milkshakes and Mitsuko took that as a sign that yep, it was indeed her daughter.
Mitsuko munched on her burger, laughing when Mica caught Toni. Usually she could fake having a good time and laughing with friends, but she found whenever she was with Toni, her laughter seemed more genuine. She wasn't sure what to make of that, but she decided not to dwell on it too much right now. Maybe later.
"Guess not," she grinned again. "Do I do that too? Do I need to apologize in advance for being a french fry stealer in the future?"
***
“Momma Toni says it’s not something to apologize for,” said Mica sagely, sidestepping the question. Then she stole one of Mitsuko’s fries as if to prove the point.
“I see I taught you well,” Toni said, grinning.
*** Mitsuko narrowed her eyes when Mica stole a fry from her plate. Usually she got annoyed when people stole her food, but she wasn't too irritated this time. Still, she shot Toni a glare that wasn't completely serious and there was a small hint of amusement in her eyes.
"Yeah, I'm totally blaming you for that one," she smirked a bit.
***
“Blame fully accepted,” said Toni, giving a returning smirk with only the tiniest bit of apology. “So what did you learn from Mommy Mitsuko?” she asked, curious what each of their influences had been on the child.
*** Mitsuko grinned but she turned to Mica, actually kind of curious what she had taught the little girl in the future. Part of her doubted it was anything good. She never really learned any skills, always preferring to get other people to do things for her.
"Um... she taught me how to throw a punch. And I want to learn how to throw an ax but she says I'm too young."
***
“She’s probably right,” Toni said, although she looked curiously at Mitsuko. She had to admit, there was a part of her that wanted to bring the little girl to the axe throwing range with the two of them and see how far she could throw. She wasn’t that young… Toni knew it would be irresponsible, but that didn’t stop her from being tempted.
*** "Well, that was future me or whatever. Me now says you can," Mitsuko said, giving Mica a grin. She kinda did wanted to have a little outing with just the three of them at the axe throwing range. It had kind of became her and Toni's thing and it might be nice to bring their daughter there.
"...or maybe future me is right and it might be dangerous." She was kind of surprised at herself for saying that. She usually didn't care if something was dangerous as long as it was fun. But a part of her kind of did wanted to make sure Mica would be safe. What an odd feeling that was.
***
“I’ll be careful!” said Mica excitedly, looking back and forth between her two parents. “I promise!”
“Well,” said Toni carefully, “As long as we’re there to watch out for you, I’m sure it’ll be fine.” She looked at Mitsuko and smiled. She rather liked the kid the two of them had apparently raised. She had a wild streak that reminded Toni of both Mitsuko and herself. Having a kid might be a surprise, but Toni had a feeling it was going to turn out to be a nice one.
