Who: Adam Vasic and his karmic retribution daughters
What: Surprise!
Where: Adam & Sam's house
When: morning
Warnings: nope
Status: gdoc (may be continued)
It wasn’t completely out of the ordinary for Adam to not wake up alone since he occasionally had lady friends spend the night or spent the night at their places. What was unusual was waking up to a lot of chatter and bouncing on the bed. In the haze of sleep, he initially thought it was Star who was babbling at him, though he couldn’t imagine why she would be in his room. Then he felt a small body curl up next to him and thought he had the twins, but that didn’t make sense either.
When he cracked his eyes open, he immediately knew what was going on and didn’t even bother to attempt stifling his groan. A quick count showed there were six girls of varying ages who were squabbling with each other. He recognized half of them.
Rubbing a hand over his face, he sat up, thankful he was wearing a pair of pajama pants and a t-shirt. The tiny redhead curled against his side was one that he recognized and he easily slipped his arm around her as he looked at the others. “Okay, I know who you two are,” he said, pointing at Ellie and Tabby. “But you three are new. Names, ages, and who your other parent is please.”
***
Madison buried her head against him and made a face. “They're loud.” She yawned mostly asleep still before blinking a few times and looking up at Adam, looking over the others then burying her face back against his side.
This was getting to be routine so she was almost as unsurprised as he was. She peeked over him to see who was who this time.
***
“We so weren’t loud. Not that loud, anyway. He mostly slept through it until just now,” Ashlyn retorted, but there was no real bite to her words. Lifting her eyes, nearly the same shade of blue as Adam’s, to her dad’s, she gave him a grin. “I’m Ash. Ashlyn, but mom only calls me that when - if - I’m in trouble. I’m...16,” she lied, just curious to see if he could tell that she was lying just as well now as he could in her own time. “And my mom’s Jo. Harvelle. And this is really weird.”
It was her first time going through this, although she’d heard about it as she grew up - but there was a big difference between hearing about it and experiencing it for herself. After a moment, she pointed at Cosette. “She’s been speaking French, so I hope you know it.”
***
Adam definitely did not know French and he couldn’t even begin to imagine who the little blonde might belong to that would teach it to her. That was going to make this even more interesting, apparently. If the kid didn’t speak English, it was about to be a really difficult week.
“Uh huh, try again,” he said when Ash said she was sixteen. He recognized the glint in her eyes and knew that if she had half of his DNA and half of Jo’s, she was going to be a handful. At least he could count on Ellie to be level headed. “What about you?” he asked, pointing at the other one he didn’t recognize.

Eira sighed, giving him the patient-yet-skeptical look her mother had given him countless times, ever since she could remember. “My name is Eira,” she replied. “I’m 13 and my mother’s name is Sif.”
And she knew what was going on here, but why was she going to say anything? It was more than a little fun watching her father be confused. She had a mischievious streak much like her mother’s, quiet but very very much there.
Much to the chagrin of, well, everyone.
***
Okay, so Jo and Sif made sense as other parents. As much as anything made sense in Madison Valley, at least. Ellie was standing near the door looking far too amused by the whole situation and Tabby crawled up in bed on the other side of him from Madison.
“I wonder if you’ve got more than Dad this time,” Ellie said. “You gotta text him and find out.”
Adam groaned. “I will text all of your parents,” he promised, eyes darting over to the little blonde who was apparently speaking French. “What’s your name, sweetheart? And who is your other parent?”
“Aunt Kate speaks French,” Ellie offered helpfully. Adam really hoped that she was not this kid’s mother.

Cosette climbed up onto the bed by his legs and grinned at him as she switched to English. “Cosette. My mommy is Georgina,” she declared sweetly, before looking around at the other girls, then back to him as her smile fell.
“I’m scared. What’s going on daddy? Where’s mommy?”
***
At least she did speak English. And she was pretty cute. “Uh, Mommy’s probably at her place,” Adam said. “You know how weird stuff happens sometimes? Well, this is a weird thing happening. You’re not exactly when you’re supposed to be.”
He glanced at the other two, hoping they would understand as well. This was always the sucky part of meeting his potential future kids. He couldn’t help feel guilty that he had no idea who they were or that this version of town wasn’t anything like their actual lives. “I’ll let your moms know you guys are here,” he said. “And your dad, El.”
Of course, his co-parents might have other kids, so he wasn’t sure if or when they’d be able to stop by and say hi and he had a feeling he might be keeping all six of the girls with him for the duration. Sam was going to love that.
***
Madison was used to things like this, she, like most of the others had grown up with this wild ride. She was content to be a daddy's girl for the moment.
“Mommy is going to be amused again isn't she?” She piped up after a few minutes. Jaime was going to be something alright, and she'd probably offer to watch the horde. The pack house was always inundated when kids showed up after all.
“Can we have breakfast?” She asked with a bright smile.
***
Ash rolled her eyes when she was called out on the age thing, but grinned. “Fine, I’m 14,” she replied, before looking around at all the other kids. This was so weird, but they’d manage. As her mom often said, they always did.
“Breakfast is a good idea. I can make pancakes,” she said. “Do you have the stuff for that?” Even as she spoke, she started for the door, because she’d rather actually do something instead of just stand around and talk about it.
***
“Uh, we might,” Adam said, giving Ash a sheepish look. “It’s my turn to grocery shop this weekend, so I’m not entirely sure what all we have. But I can also run out and grab something quickly.”
Of course, that would mean leaving his six daughters unattended for at least twenty minutes and he wasn’t entirely sure that was a smart idea. Nor did he think it would be a great idea to ask Star to babysit, despite how much help she was when he had the twins over.
“Why don’t you take Ellie and Eira with you to check,” he suggested, hoping the three older girls would be able to get along okay for at least a few minutes. “I’ll text all of your parents and get dressed.”
The little girls seemed content to stay curled up in his bed for the moment. He had a feeling Nick was going to get a really good laugh at his luck in having six daughters show up. This had to be some kind of karmic retribution.
***
“Come on, you two,” Eira said with a heavy sigh. “Let’s go see what we can manage. Even if it isn’t pancakes, maybe we can still do something.”
Are you afraid yet, Adam? Because you should be.
“If there’s bacon, I can do that,” she said as she headed for the kitchen. “In the interests of helping, of course.” She might only be thirteen, but she had never been one to balance shared work unfairly. It just wasn’t who she was, even in a situation like this.
