Who: Kurt Wagner and Terezi Pyrope, plus a daughter.
What: Kurt meets his daughter.
Where: Hinkles.
When: Saturday, December 22.
Warnings: Low.
Status: Started in GDocs, continued in comments.
After the whole family meeting with Dagny, Vex, Sollux, and the kids, Terezi figured she should probably tell Kurt about his daughter. Sophia was obviously his. Terezi didn't really know anyone else who had blue skin. Well, there were probably some people here who did, but she didn't know them like she knew Kurt.
So she sent him a text and they made plans to meet at Hinkles. Terezi didn't know much about taking care of kids, but she was pretty sure she was suppose to feed them and stuff. Hinkles seemed like a good place to do that. So they headed over there, finding an empty booth to sit and wait for Kurt to arrive.
"Is he here yet?" Sophia asked, getting impatient.
"He should be here soon," Terezi told her. Unlike most people probably, she was kind of excited about having a future kid show up. Especially one that was blue. Because how awesome was that?! Pretty damn awesome in Terezi's opinion.
***
Kurt had received Terezi’s text, and groaned softly. He knew that Madison Valley had its shenanigans, but he was desperately hoping that they would skip him this time around. But… apparently Kurt was not so lucky. But he supposed he didn’t really mind having a daughter. And while Terezi hadn’t specified, he had a feeling this girl would be blue. Because why else would TZ be so adamant that it was his daughter?
He teleported to Hinkles soon after Terezi’s text, and stepped inside. He spotted the two girls rather soon after his arrival into the restaurant, and headed toward the two of them. “Hey,” he said, offering them a smile.
“You must be Sophia,” he said, to the young blue girl. He slid into the booth’s seat, and smiled at Sophia. Yes, he definitely could see a resemblance.
***
By the time Kurt had arrived, the girls had just gotten their food and had began munching on fries and burgers. Terezi wasn't too sure what to feed kids, but she figured human food was a good start. Sophia seemed to like it as she happily ate her burger.
Once she saw her dad, Sophia stopped and got up, running over to hug him. "Hi Dad!" she grinned, settling down beside him now. "You look really young. Not old like the last time I saw you." Terezi snickered at that. What? She couldn't help it.
***
Kurt laughed at Sophia’s statement, “That’s because I’m not old yet. I’m only seventeen.” He returned the young girl’s hug, and settled into the seat beside Sophia. He knew Sophia likely knew an older version of him, he had known this before she called him young. He knew this because he didn’t have a child yet. He hadn’t been sure he wanted a child, honestly. The chance of his passing on his blue mutation to a child was a high one, as proven by Sophia’s being blue.
“So, tell me, Sophia. Do you have a mutation, other than being blue?” He snatched a fry from Sophia’s plate, and munched on it. “Or do you take more after your mother?”
It was a legitimate question, really. And he was curious. It would be interesting to see what it was she could do. He not so subtly tried to sneak another fry off the girl’s plate.
***
"Woah, really? That's still old!" Sophia said. To her, seventeen was a bit old. Really, anything over ten was old to her.
She shook her head. "No, I'm just blue. Mom likes it, though! You know how she is with colors and smells," she grinned at her mom who just smiled back a little. But when Terezi smelled Kurt attempting to grab some fries, she caught him.
"Hey, I see you trying to steal Sophia's fries," Terezi said. "You're pretty sneaky," she grinned. Sophia smiled too.
"You can have some, Daddy," she said, pushing her plate his way. "We can share!"
***
“I a really sneaky, I know it.” He grinned at Terezi, and stole one of her fries next. He thought he was pretty sneaky, at least. He knew he wasn’t being too terribly sneaky at the moment, though. He was pretty blatantly stealing his daughter’s fries. Which was weird to think about. His daughter.
He smiled down at Sophia, “Your mother says I smell like blueberries,” he told her. Then, to Terezi, “Does Sophia smell like blueberries, too?” he asked.
That would be cool if she did. “I like how blueberries smell,” he decided.
***
"It's a good thing I can smell you. Otherwise you'd probably steal more than just our fries," Terezi grinned. She didn't mind. She'd share her food with Kurt and Sophia. All they had to do was ask. Though maybe she'd be a bit more stingy with red slushies. But everything else was okay to share.
Terezi shrugged and leaned over to sniff Sophia. "Yep, she does," she replied. "She smells like a blueberry smoothie," she told them, which made Sophia giggle at the description.
"Blueberries are the best!" the little girl grinned. Terezi shrugged. "Eh, they're alright."
***
“No, they’re better than just alright, Terezi. They are the absolute best.” Kurt grinned at the apparent mother of his child. He really didn’t have too strong of feelings on the subject of blueberries, but he knew there were far worse things he could smell like. Like eggs. Or body odor. Or something. He smiled up at the waitress who came over, and placed an order for a bacon cheeseburger and fries. He decided he needed fries of his own.
And he placed an order for a cherry milkshake, because he knew Terezi liked red things and he liked cherry milkshakes himself.
“You can smell me when I steal your fries?” he asked.
***
"Nope, cherries are way better," Terezi said. They smelled awesome and because of that, that was why she loved the color red. Sure she liked other colors - blue included - but red? That was her absolute favorite and it had the best flavor of all.
"And of course I can smell you," she told him. "Duh. How can I not?"
***
He really had no idea that Terezi could smell everything. He knew that she could smell colors, but he didn’t know she could smell when the colors did actions. Was that even a thing, colors doing actions? Well, it was now.
“I didn’t know,” he answered honestly. “Have you ever had a cherry milkshake? I would be willing to give you the one I ordered, if you haven’t.”
***
It was still the colors of people and objects she smelled. And they move, so the colors moved as well. If she had to explain it, she would've said she smelled blue (Kurt) moving closer to the fries. That was basically how she could tell. Plus, she could hear him move too.
"I have, but I'll still have yours," she grinned.
"Ooh, I want one too!" Sophia piped up. "Can I have one too, Daddy?"
***
Kurt eyed Sophia for a moment, then grinned. “Why not?” He waved down the waitress, and placed an order for two more cherry milkshakes. In addition to the one he’d already ordered. Because the three of them needed cherry milkshakes. It was that kind of day it seemed.
“Now your mother won’t have to steal ours,” he told Sophia, with a smile. Because he knew that Terezi would claim one for herself, in retaliation for his stealing her fries. “Because cherry milkshakes are delicious.”
He preferred them to strawberry ones, though those were definitely a close second.
***
Terezi gasped indignantly when Kurt suggested she'd steal his cherry milkshake. "How dare you insinuate I'd steal your food! I wouldn't dare do that, even after you stole my fries. What kind of person do you think I am? So rude!"
Sophia just grinned as she nibbled on some fries. "Mom, you totally would steal our cherry milkshakes."
Terezi glared. "No, I won’t," she said. But after a quick pause, she slowly nodded. "Yeah, okay, I would."
***
Kurt smiled at the two as the bickered. He was pleased that he had a daughter. And that the daughter had a mother who did not care in the slightest that Sophia was blue. That mattered to Kurt, as well as the fact that Sophia seemed to be well adjusted. He would have hated to bring a child into the world who couldn’t -- or wouldn’t -- adjust to being blue.
“You know you would steal our milkshakes, Terezi.”
His eyes brightened a bit when their three cherry milkshakes were brought to the table. He reached for one of them, and took a sip. As big of a sip as he could manage. He then grimaced as the milkshake went down. “Ow, my brain hurts.”
***
"Well, you can't really blame me. Cherry milkshakes are fucking delicious," Terezi said. Who wouldn't try and steal cherry milkshakes? Weird people who had absolutely no taste, that was who.
She sipped her own milkshake, snickering when Kurt got a brainfreeze. Sophia, on the other hand, frowned a bit. "Are you okay, Dad?" she asked, concerned. She had brainfreezes before and she knew how much they could hurt.
***
“Cherry milkshakes are, in fact, fucking delicious,” he agreed. Even if they did give him a brainfreeze from drinking them too fast. But could anyone really blame him? They were really, really good. He couldn’t help himself. But, apparently Terezi found it amusing that he’d gotten a brainfreeze, and that just caused him to stick his tongue out at her.
“I’m fine, Sophia,” he said with a smile. “I promise. I just drank the milkshake too fast.” He had a feeling that the girl had understood that much, though.
“Maybe we can go to a movie or something after this. Unless you want to see your grandmother, Sophia.” He was amused by the fact that Raven Darkholme was now a grandmother. Though he was sure that Raven wouldn’t be so amused. “I’m sure she’ll be glad to see you.”
***
"Yeah, you gotta be careful. Brainfreezes hurt a lot," Sophia nodded solemnly. She'd been there before. She was a little kid after all, so of course she drank milkshakes too fast as well. She couldn’t help it sometimes. Ice cream was just so good.
"Grandma Raven is here too?!" Sophia was a bit surprised but it was a nice surprise. She adored her grandmother and was glad that she was here. "Can we go visit her? Please?"
***
Kurt grinned at Sophia, "Yes, Raven is here too." He was pleased that Sophia seemed to know who Raven was, that she'd met the woman. While he hadn't known Raven when he was a child, he was glad his daughter was able to know her. That was important to him.
"We can go visit her. I'll need to tell her you're here first, but I'm sure she'll want to meet you." Raven hadn't even given birth to Kurt yet, not this version of Raven. And then for him to tell her she had a granddaughter? He knew that was going to take some getting used to, for Raven.
"I'm staying with her while in Madison Valley, actually."
