Castiel was lounging on the couch after spending all day decorating the Hanukkah Tree. It hadn't originally been a Hanukkah tree, but now... now it was one. Mainly because he hadn't known Blake to be Jewish. He probably should have known this, and he felt bad for not knowing the fact. But luckily for Cas, he had chosen blue for the theme of the tree and blue tended to be one of the main colors of Hanukkah. So it worked.
He had a Netflix movie on at the moment, but he wasn't really focused on it. He was kind of bored, actually. But it was something, and it was keeping his interest. A little. He yawned softly, yet he wasn't tired. He was rarely tired. Which was why he didn't sleep.
"Blake come home," he murmured, wanting the man to keep him company. Though getting the man to come home wasn't as easy as verbally requesting him to do so. Unless he was on the phone. But Cas didn't care. He knew Blake would be home soon.
***
Blake happened to be headed home at that very moment. It would be about ten minutes or so before he came through the door, bundled up and displaying rosy cheeks from the cold. He was New York born and raised, though, so the cold didn't bother him too much, and he started shedding his extra layers as soon as he was in the house.
"Honey I'm home," he called out, greeting Cas even as his focus was, at least temporarily, centered ton the tree Cas had decorated. "It's even more impressive in person," he said. The pictures Cas had sent him earlier in the day was nice, but the real thing was even more beautiful.
***
Castiel beamed when Blake came into the house. He could hear Blake before he saw them, and he sat up to look at the man. "You're home, I was so bored. I was about to have to decorate some more, and I'm not sure how much more I could pass off as Hanukkah decorations." He grinned at Blake, and got up from his spot on the couch. He made his way toward the man, and kissed him softly.
"You like it?" he asked with a smile. "I'm going to get some proper Hanukkah decorations for you, since it's almost that time. But... I worked on the tree most of the day." This part was true. He had gone out and gotten the tree, and the decorations, and had put the tree together. All while Blake was away at work.
"I probably should have asked before starting to decorate, though."
***
Blake just grinned while Cas rambled about the decorations and at some point reached down to catch Cas' hand in his. "It's fine. It's nice. I like it." He wouldn't have complained even if the tree hadn't been done in blues so it could be called a Hanukkah Tree. He would have loved anything Cas did.
"I'm glad you did the decorating, though because I probably wouldn't have done any." Not because he didn't want decorations. It was December, after all. He might be Jewish, but he didn't mind traditional Christmas decorations and festivities either.
***
Castiel realized he was rambling when Blake took his hand, and he offered the man a sheepish smile. "Sorry," he said softly, and leaned in to kiss him softly. "I love you. Just so you are reminded." He grinned at the man, and pressed another kiss against his lips once more. "I am going to get you a menorah because I think you need one." He nodded a bit at this, and smiled once more.
"I like Christmas. I've never actually decorated before, this is the first time. So I might have gone a bit overboard on the tree. But! A woman named Kitty wants me to decorate a Hanukkah Tree for her." Castiel didn't have the heart to tell Kitty that it hadn't really been intended to be a Hanukkah Tree, and he was more than willing to provide her with the tree she asked for.
He kissed Blake once more, "How was your day?"
***
Blake was a little sad. This would be his first Christmas without Stella. That was going to be hard for him. He was grateful he had Cas. He'd gotten through Thanksgiving, he knew he could get through Christmas with Cas by his side too. But it would be hard without Stella.
"It was a typical day. Building sets is not nearly as much fun as performing." He rolled his shoulders. he loved everything about theatre, but he loved some aspects more than others. They were working on a Christmas program.
"Oh, that's cool. You're going to do it for her, right?"
***
He knew that the holidays were hard on Blake, with Stella having been sent home. He was really close to Stella, and he likely had spent every Thanksgiving and Christmas with the woman since they had met.
"Oh, I'm sure. But the sets are necessary for theater." Castiel was glad that Blake seemed to have a decent day. He knew that the man preferred acting over set building, but he knew that Blake understood the necessities of building sets. Of course he did. If Castiel was able to understand that, so was Blake.
He nodded at the man's question, "Of course I am. It will give me something to do when you're at work, and I'm off. It will be fun." He kissed Blake's cheek. "Are you hungry? I can get you some food. I've learned how to cook some things."
***
"I'll never say no if you want to cook for me," Blake said. Even though Cas didn't eat much, didn't need to eat at all, he took good care of Blake. He cooked for him, or brought him food from one of the restaurants in town. Blake appreciated that very much. It certainly made his life easier because he didn't have to think about food much at all.
"What were you thinking of making for me?" Blake wasn't picky about his food. There were things he wouldn't eat of course, but since he was the only one in the house who ate those things weren't likely to be in the kitchen.
***
Castiel considered the options of what he could make for Blake, briefly. "I can make spaghetti. Or... I dunno. What do you feel like eating? I'm sure I could manage." Okay, maybe he wasn't a hundred percent certain he could manage, but he could at least try. That was the least he could do, right? And he could always go pick up food if what he made didn't end up decent.
He started toward the kitchen, trying to figure out what he could cook for Blake. "I would offer to make the thing I like most as a human, but it's only a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Grape jelly, because that's the best." While he didn't like the flavor of the sandwich anymore, he had fond memories of them. Mainly because they were delicious and easy to make.
***
"I wouldn't be opposed to a sandwich," Blake said. Because a sandwich would be easy, and quick. And then they could get down to other things. Things Blake felt were more important than eating, though he had to eat because he was entirely human and food was necessary.
"Yeah, let's do that. A sandwich sounds good. I think there's some chips in the pantry too," he added, going to check. He'd let Cas make the sandwich because he knew Cas enjoyed fixing food for him. And really, Blake didn't mind letting him. He kind of liked being pampered, and Cas did a fine job of it.
***
Castiel didn't mind making food for Blake, not in the slightest. He rather enjoyed doing things for the man, even when he didn't need to do it. He didn't eat, but he knew Blake needed to. So he would feed Blake. And as the man went to check on the chips in the pantry, Cas went about making the peanut butter and jelly sandwich for him. With grape jelly, of course. Because that had been what Castiel had enjoyed when he was human, and he was going to make one for Blake.
"...I hope you don't mind grape," he said, as he thought about it. He knew that some people didn't like grape jelly. "I figured you wouldn't have bought it if you did, though." He knew that Blake wouldn't have something to eat in the house that he didn't enjoy. He quickly made the sandwich, peanut butter and jelly was relatively easy to make. Simple, really.
***
"Grape is fine," Blake assured Cas. he wasn't picky. He liked most any kind of jelly. And he especially liked it if Cas made the sandwich for him. Sandwiches and salads always seemed better if someone else made them. Blake wasn't sure why that was, but it was.
"And if I get any on my face, you can wash it off," he said as he took the sandwich in hand and bit off a bite.
***
"Of course grape is fine," he said with a smile. "Grape is delicious." Or, at least, when Castiel had been human, grape was delicious. He leaned in and kissed Blake before the man took a bite of the sandwich.
"Oh, I think I can manage that," he said, smirking slightly. He rather liked that idea, and he might make up a reason to do so anyway. In order to kiss Blake more.
Because kissing Blake was wonderful.
***
"I'm glad," Blake grinned.
Blake certainly didn't mind the kissing. In fact, he liked it quite a lot, and sought out excuses for it to happen from time to time. A little jelly smeared on his cheek was a cheap trick, sure, but if Cas took the bait it was totally worth it.
***
Castiel knew all to well what Blake was doing when there happened to be a bit of jelly on his cheek. But he was more than willing to take the bait. He leaned in, and flicked his tongue over the man's cheek.
"Eat your sandwich," he said softly. "Then we can go to bed." He kissed Blake softly after his words, running a hand through his hair.
