WHO: Sarah and Cassie
WHAT: Shopping/Random meeting
WHEN: Sunday afternoon
WHERE: Magic Alley
WARNINGS: Bit of language, mention of death
STATUS: Closed/Completed gdoc
Cassie wasn't sure why she was at Magic Alley. She'd been walking around after work like usual and found her feet had just taken her this way. There was a sign out front that boasted classes and resources to learn about one's abilities that got her to stop and just consider it. Learning how to control her Watcher abilities was slow going and the things she Saw lately were boring, everyday things that didn't really matter in the grand scheme of things. There weren't any other Watchers here and since she'd sworn off alcohol, there wasn't a whole lot more she could do aside from meditation and practice.
Her parents were pretty good at teaching her to meditate and she'd definitely improved, but she still had a long way to go. On the slim chance that this shop would have anything useful, Cassie pushed open the door. She didn't know what she was looking for or even where to start so she just looked around to see what caught her eye. When she accidentally made eye contact with one of the employees, she inclined her head as if to say 'hey'.

Sarah had been meaning to get a part-time job at Magic Alley, she just never really gotten around to it. She blamed moving into a new house. At least, for the first while anyway. But moving had been pretty tough and once she thought she had finally settled, the Dome just threw one thing after another and she just never got the time to talk to Hermione.
She finally did, though, and luckily for her, Hermione was willing to offer her the job. Sarah was grateful for it, glad she now had the chance to make a little extra cash. She had started started working a few days ago and was walking around when she spotted Cassie. She knew her enough to recognize her, but she was pretty sure they never spoke before.
Guess now was the time for that to change. She headed over to her. "Hey, need any help looking for something."
***
The name didn’t click right away but Cassie wasn't fussed. She knew some people but didn't bother until the other person made it worth her while because people left and it hurt. She tended to need to be forced into friendship in some way, for it to happen without her even noticing. Most people left her alone, but this girl came right over to her and didn't even bat an eye as she offered assistance.
"I don't know," she replied honestly, with a bit of a shrug. "Do you have anything on Seeing?" Cassie turned to look at the other teenager. "Like telling the future? Seeing the possibilities?" It was different in different worlds, but if there was something here that could help her, it was maybe worth looking into. Maybe.
***
Sarah wasn't too bothered if the other girl couldn't recall her name. She knew she was introverted and didn't go out too much or talked to people. It was something she was trying to work on, but she was still very much a quiet girl who kept to herself most of the time.
"'Seeing'?" she repeated, guessing it was an actual ability and the girl didn't mean looking with her eyes. "I've never heard of Seeing before, but if it's like seeing the future, we have a few things that do. Fortune telling cards, crystal balls, some spells, a couple other things," she shrugged.
***
"More like meditation or dream interpretation I guess? Or how to open my mind to Seeing. I don't need cards or crystals or any of that shit," she replied, and despite her use of cursing, she was very conversational in tone. She had to focus in order to See but deciphering it was iffy most of the time if she didn't See enough or understand what it was trying to tell her quickly enough.
"So is being a witch a prerequisite to work here?" Cassie asked, curious even though she pretended like she wasn't. "Seems like it should be, or at least someone knowledgeable on all sorts of magical and mystical topics." She didn't care enough to know that stuff but she could appreciate if someone else did have that knowledge.
***
"Ah, right, so it's not really magic." Or it didn't seem like it to Sarah, anyway. More of just an ability, really, especially when it seemed to involve more dream interpretation and meditation rather than using spells and whatnot. "We have some books on dreams and meditation over here," she headed over, gesturing for Cassie to follow her.
"Seems like it so far," she said. Hermione, Madison, and herself were all witches. She wasn't sure about Oz, maybe he had magic, maybe he didn't and just knew a lot about it. "You'd have to ask Hermione that, but if it were up to me, I'd say just having knowledge of magic is good enough."
***
Cassie nodded. It wasn't magic, more of a curse from her perspective, but it wasn't very likely that any of this could help her. She followed the girl - reasonably sure her name started with an S - over to where the books were that covered the topics she needed.
"How does that work exactly? Are you stuck with your powers or did you go looking for them?" There wasn't any judgement in her tone for either option, she was just a little bitter about the fact that it wasn't option for her. Cassie just wanted to have a say in her life and while things were better here in Madison, she was still a Watcher and that just caused her a lot of pain and misery. If there was a way for her to lose her abilities for good, she'd take it.

The way she had worded her question made Sarah wonder if she had no choice to have this so called 'Seeing' ability. From what she could tell so far, it was like having premonitions of the future. Which is good and all, but not so great when the future seemed to be bad.
"Depends," Sarah told her. "Myself, I'm a natural witch, so I'm pretty much stuck with my powers. But my old coven, they kind of looked for it."
***
"I was born with mine, too," she admitted as she looked at the bookshelves on the other side of the aisle, even though that wasn't where the girl was looking. That was the whole reason why she was looking there in the first place. Avoiding eye contact while talking about her past or her powers was the way she usually did it, since it was one of her least favorite topics of conversation.
"Don't get why anyone would look for it," she muttered. Cassie wasn't the sort of person to talk about anything with anyone and now she sort of was but not really and it made her bristle a little. Sharing was uncomfortable on a good day, when she wanted to. Doing so involuntarily was frustrating and it made her clam up a bit.
***
"My mom was a witch, but I've only just found out recently," Sarah said. She didn't say anything more about it, definitely didn't tell Cassie that her mother had died giving birth to her. Like her, Sarah didn't really like talking too much about her past. Especially since the last people she told about her mom had used that against her, had even mocked her about it.
"In my experience, they just want power," she shrugged. "But too much of it can be bad. One of the witches in my old coven got all the power she wanted and it drove her crazy. Now she's in a mental hospital." A part of her did feel bad for Nancy, but that was just how things ended up.
***
"Moms are terrible like that," she replied, naturally just assuming that her mother had withheld that information purposefully. Cassie was grateful that her adopted mother didn't try to keep shit from her for her own protection. That excuse was such bullshit on so many levels.
She did turn to look at the redhead when she said her friend was in a mental hospital now. "Well. That sounds about right. I mean it's either there or in politics, right?" Power was a real bitch in that way and it was something of a relief to not have to use her abilities here. She could just ignore them. She didn't, but she could. It made a small difference.
"Anyway, I don't know if these are going to help but I guess it doesn't hurt to try." Cassie shrugged. "How much is this one?"
***
"My mom died giving birth to me," Sarah told her bluntly. She normally didn't just blurt that out to strangers, but it just ended up coming out anyway. Because her mother wasn't terrible. She wasn't good either. She never got the chance to know what kind of mom she might've had.
She shrugged though. Cassie didn't know, so she wasn't too upset with her. Instead, she kind of snorted. "Yeah, mental hospital or politics sounds about right." In that case, she was kind of glad Nancy ended up in the former. Because that girl in politics? Was kind of a scary thought.
"Yep, won't know unless you try," she shrugged and glanced at the book. "It's about ten dollars."
***
Cassie didn’t apologize for putting her foot in her mouth, but she did nod in understanding. She felt bad, there just wasn’t anything she could do about the other girl’s past. It was easier to talk about fucked up friends and bullshit books
“Alright, I’ll take it,” Cassie decided. It was worth it even if the book ended up as a doorstop or something. “Thanks for your help,” she added, genuine in her own way.
***
Sarah didn't mind too much. The girl didn't know, and at least she didn't say anything more on the subject. Sarah was fine with telling people, but she didn't like going into too much detail.
"Okay," she nodded and headed to the register to ring her up. She put the book in a bag. "Sure, no problem. I hope it helps a little." She meant it, though she had no idea if it would or not.
