"He's a good one. Dwight surprised me with him, but I have to say it's worked out really well so far." Pepper normally didn't like surprises at all but this one was working out a lot better than she'd expected. Fate wasn't a child, but he was a young creature that needed their care and support in a way that was sort of like a kid. Plus, he helped her balance her life.
"Come on, let's get you outside," Pepper directed at Fate, who woofed and headed for the back door. She laughed and made her way after him, trusting Phil to follow. She let the dog out into the fenced in backyard and kept the back door open so that Fate could come and go as he pleased. Then she moved into the kitchen properly and began pulling out the fixings for chicken sandwiches.
"Mayo? Lettuce? Tomato? I've got like three kinds of cheeses, too." She wasn't going to just info dump on him without the prompting.
