Re: Lucas & Briar
That wasn't true at all and Briar gave Lucas a look that said it. Spring wasn't coming any faster just because winter was. They weren't connected. But he wasn't looking to have that discussion. It would just end up in the other kid making sad faces or in the tentative friendship they had being ruined. Not a good deal in his books.
Neither was trying to explain that there were no movies or sharing free time with his guardian, that they didn't have that kind of relationship, and probably never would. That was fine. They didn't have to be family, they just had to live together until Briar was good to be on his own again.
So instead he just shook his head and unceremoniously replaced the marshmallow on Lucas' stick and gestured for him to go back to roasting. "It'll be fine," he assured. "I ain't too worried 'bout any of it."
That went for his now over relationship with Maya, too. In case Lucas had any bright ideas about asking about that.
