Kvothe staggered back when the soulgaze ended, shocked to the core. He had never known anything like that before, never felt anything like it. The closest he could come was how Elodin had looked into him instead of at him...but this was more intense even than that had been. He blinked, trying to regain his balance, but shutting his eyes tightly against what he had seen. It wouldn't go away. The darkness, the pain, the loss, the misery, the guilt, it all burned him, mixing with his own, and it was all he could do to keep tears from streaming down his face.
