Setsuna yawned. She was comfortable and warm, and someone was next to her. It took her a few minutes to wake up enough to realize that someone was next to her. She sat bolt upright. She had long green hair again and she could see it tied back in a long braid, that made her feel better because she recalled, after another minute, that she’d not looked like her. Then, and only then, did she turn her head sideways to see who it was.
Oh.
Setsuna then realized she was nearly naked and lying next to Dream. She swallowed, hard, and looked over at him. “Morning.” she said, softly, chewing on her bottom lip for a moment. This was a little more awkward than she’d been ready for.
*** The first thing Dream noticed was off was the fact that he was sleeping in the first place. Being one of the Endless, he had no need for sleep. He couldn't remember if he ever even pretended to sleep, much like he pretended to eat and/or drink.
The second thing he noticed as that he had little to no clothes on. While he wasn't shy or ashamed at all of his body, he rarely took off his robes. So that was quite odd for him.
The third and final thing he noticed was that someone was lying in bed beside him. And not just anyone. With her long, green hair, Setsuna was immediately recognizable. Dream was definitely surprised, but he suppose it could've been worse and he'd wake up next to a total stranger.
"Good morning," he replied. "Though this isn't quite what I expected."
*** So far she'd resisted the urge to wrap up so tightly in the sheets she could barely move. For her to end up in bed with anyone was a terribly strange occurrence and she felt incredibly self-conscious. Not because she thought poorly of her body, she didn't, just because she never was naked around others.
Or nearly so. The blush she had tinged down to her collar bones, the color making her slightly dusky skin darker in places.
But it could have been worse. At least she knew Dream and liked him. She could have ended up much poorly off.
“I can't say that I expected it either.” A faint grin, “though nor did I expect to live in the old West either.” She shyly tucked a stand behind her ear, laughing a little.
*** "I don't think anyone does," Dream replied, shrugging slightly. "Only in Madison Valley." There was a hint of amusement in his eyes, though it flickered and he was back to his serious, stoic self.
"Though it's not a bad way to wake up. I don't mind it at all, actually," he admitted. Waking up next to Setsuna, someone he had grown quite fond of, was definitely better than waking up next to a complete stranger.
*** She laughed, a genuine one, “only Madison Valley would send us to the West. It is an interesting place, though a murderer on the loose was not the best event it could have been much worse.”
Setsuna dropped her eyes to her hands then drew in a breath to steady herself. She leaned over and kissed his cheek softly. “I'm glad I woke up next to you.” She admitted with a bit of a grin, even as she gave in and tugged the sheet up a little.
*** "We could've been sent to Hell or some sort of nightmare realm," he said. Wasn't there demons here awhile back as well? He was certain there had been, but either way. The Dome definitely could've sent them to a much worse place than the Old West.
He nodded, moving to gently tuck a loose strand of hair behind her ear. He also noticed she pulled the sheet up. He didn't see the problem but decided not to comment on it just yet. "I suppose we should get up," he said. "Unless you want to stay here a bit longer."
*** “That would have been awful. I do not think many of this town would have survived such a trip.” She was grateful for that, even as the memories trickled back. They'd had a good life, considering the time frame, and the type of people they were.
Her eyes fluttered slightly shut as he tucked the hair behind her ear for her. She hadn't pulled it to her chin, just to over the top of the thin chemise which, upon further subtle inspection, didn't really hide a whole lot. She took another breath, smoothing the sheet into place.
“I do not think I am quite ready to get out of bed. For once.”
*** "Indeed. Unless the Dome did a reset and everything and everyone was back to normal." Hey, it could happen. The Dome could've sent them to someplace dangerous, had several people die, but they'd be alive and well once things went back to normal. The Dome was a powerful thing and he wouldn't be surprised if it could do that.
He raised an eyebrow. "Very well then," he nodded. "To be honest, I don't think I want to get up just yet myself." Odd because he didn't need to lie down. Or perhaps it was the company beside him that made him not want to get up yet.
*** “That's true. The Dome would most likely return people to life afterwards.” She grinned a bit as she looked up at the ceiling, the Dome was such a strange place. She was not sure what to expect out of it, really.
Setsuna smiled, then, a softer smile and shifted so she was on her side, looking at him. “I think being returned to the present after being sent into the past gives us decent reason to be a little lazy today.” She reached up to smooth a wild hair down on his head.
*** "And hearing that some poor woman got murdered and the murderer himself got killed, I would certainly hope the Dome will bring them back." Dream, of course, knew who had been killed during the week, as he knew everyone. He wasn't close to either of them, but he certainly hoped they'd return once everything was back to normal.
If not, then, well. It was their time, he suppose.
"Well, if you say so," he replied, a slight smile on his lips. "I'm glad things are back to normal, though that life we had? It wasn't so bad."
*** “I'm sure you could ask your sister, I'm sure she would know either way, wouldn't she?” Not that it was her business, but it was an option if they really wanted to know.
Setsuna blushed a little as she nodded, “it was a life that very much suited is, I think. Apparently we are as reclusive as ever no matter where we go?” She laughed softly, maroon eyes glittering a tiny bit.
*** "She would," he nodded. "I'll ask her later." He wasn't in any hurry to figure out what happened. Not when he would rather just continue to lie here with Setsuna.
"Perhaps. Though there's probably millions of alternate universes out there. Who knows, maybe there is one or two where we're more social than we normally are." It was definitely a possibility, but he definitely preferred being reclusive.
*** Setsuna nodded, “there are an infinite number of alternative universes. I am sure there are some where we are social. Though, to be honest, I prefer being less so.” She looked up at him, settling on her elbow.
“I never thought I would be working with horses, though, or minding a house. Or both.” She laughed softly, “in glad it was with you, though.” She admitted, looking down a bit
*** "As do I," he said. Or he just liked it because he was in one of the many universes where he preferred to be reclusive. Surely his other selves that didn't mind being with people would disagree.
"Horses are quite amazing creatures, aren't they?" He always did liked them. He wouldn't say they were his favorite animal, but he liked being around them once in awhile. "I'm glad too."
***. “I've never really had a chance to be around them.” She admitted as she closed her eyes for a moment then moved to rest against him. She cracked an eye open to look at him.
She even held her breath for a moment, waiting to see if he was not pleased with her daring. She was stepping over lines they really hadn't drawn.
** "You should," he said. "I believe there are stables here. Perhaps we can see the horses there someday. Or we can always go into the Dreaming." That might be better, since it was his realm. He could conjure up the prettiest, most gentle horse for her if she wanted.
He froze for a moment, but then he relaxed and even put his arm around her. His way of saying, no, he certainly did not mind at all.
*** “I would like that.” She said quietly, mostly referring to the Dreaming. Going to the stables meant dealing with people. They were both much better not dealing with people, after all.
She almost pulled away when he froze, thinking she'd made a seriously poor judgment call, by then he put his arm around her and she relaxed. He didn't push her off, that was good. She figured she could at least be a little less shy now that, well, they'd spent a week married. Just a little less shy. Not much. Don't expect miracles, Death, Usagi.
*** "Then we shall do that sometime," he nodded. Yes, the Dreaming would be better. Less people and he can make sure everything went good for her.
He was one hundred percent comfortable, but since it was Setsuna, he was fine. More than fine, really. It was actually nice being with her like this. He was glad she decided to be a little more brave just now.
*** Setsuna smiled up at him, that would be fun. She liked their mini excursions in the Dreaming, it really did a lot for her. She rarely slept, normally, but with him offering things like the fireworks and such, she’d enjoyed more nights sleeping. Mostly because she visited with him.
She closed her eyes and took in a deep breath. He smelled like Time, an old book scent, and that scent that was between sleep and awake - a fleeting thing. She couldn’t have put it into words but it was nice. She leaned up to press a kiss to his cheek. “You’re so good to me.”
*** "Of course," he replied. "As are you." Maybe he never admitted it, and probably never will, but he was glad his sister suggested that he and Setsuna meet. He had been grateful ever since he visited her in her dream.
