I feel as though I should dispense with all the usual formalities. You and I are both aware of the weather and the latest news around the farm. We share nothing else and I'm afraid there would be nothing to discuss.
Instead, I would like to come right to the point of offering my deepest apologies. I was out of line this afternoon in speaking to you the way that I did. I am, of course, aware of your father's intentions for you to marry and I am equally aware that you are meaning to go through with it. I would not dream of standing in the way of that, if even there was was something to stand there for. Whatever my feelings may or may not contain, I want to wish you the very best and my assurances that I remain on your family's farm for the work and the hospitality of your father.
I hope you will be able to forgive me for my loose tongue, and that we will be able to maintain the good relationship I have always felt has been between us.
