Who: Elizabeth and John
What: A late night stroll
Where: By the river
When Sunday night
Warning: None
It was one of those nights where Elizabeth couldn’t sleep so she decided to go for a walk. Slipping out of bed, she pulled on her night robe and shoes then she headed out of the boarding house after checking on Maya. The girl may be a teenager now but she was till her baby girl and therefore Elizabeth would always check on her a few times a night. Being there it was so late and the path to the river was right was near the boarding house, Elizabeth thought nothing of walking outside in her nightgown. Her focus was more on the stars that she looked up at as she walked. So into what night sky, she didn’t pay attention where she was going and ended up running into someone. “Oh I’m so sorry! I wasn’t paying atten -- “ She stopped herself when she saw who it was and smiled right away. “Good evening”

There were nights when John couldn’t sleep, and then there were nights when he couldn’t sleep to the degree that he needed to get out of the house. Nothing was terribly wrong, he just didn’t wish to wake Marco by being overly restless. And so he would just go for a little bit of a walk until the restlessness faded, and then he’d return home.
Tonight, though, he was slightly distracted by someone first. “Elizabeth, hello,” he greeted with a warm smile.

“Can’t sleep either?” She asked, remember how he liked to take walks when he couldn’t sleep just like she did. She’d known John for many years, as he had been the best friend of her late husband Max. She considered John a good friend of hers and someone she thought of fondly … maybe a little too fondly. She was in love with him and she wasn’t sure what to do about that because it wasn’t right. It wasn’t right but she couldn’t stop what she was feeling. Her heart was winning over her mind right now. “Do I mind if I join you for you walk?”

“No, of course not,” John said. “Feel free.” And honestly, he felt better about it. That way she wasn’t alone. Oh, she was close enough to home that it wasn’t a problem, but he was overprotective of the people that mattered to him and everybody knew it.
“Is something on your mind?” he asked curiously. “Is there anything I can do for you?”
***
“Thank you, sir” She said, looking up at him with a smile. Sticking her hands into the pockets on her robe, she looked out at the water, enjoying the silence and cool air with him for a moment before she spoke again. “No” She said almost too quickly like something was definitely on her mind. She laughed a little bit at herself for doing that and shook her head. “No thank you. What about you? Anything on your mind?” She asked, taking his arm as they began to walk together along the river.
