WHO Pepper Potts & Melinda May WHAT Returning to work WHEN Monday morning WHERE The Casino WARNINGS talk of not being able to have kids for sure, probably some feels and/or feelings of depression STATUS Closed | Incomplete
Pepper wasn't necessarily ready to come back to work, but Kate had quit on Friday and it wasn't fair to keep everyone trudging along without her. She'd taken the week like she'd said and she needed to get back into the swing of things before she spiraled too far down a path she couldn't easily walk back from. She felt numb mostly. She'd gotten dressed on autopilot, said goodbye to her husband on autopilot, and made her way to the casino in much the same way.
She stopped right outside the doors of the building and took a deep breath. Pepper reminded herself that she could do this, that it wasn't any different from any other day of the week and that just because she'd gone through something awful in her personal life didn't mean she could let it ruin anything else around her. If she couldn't have a family with Dwight, she could at least have a successful career for herself. The Casino, the law office, those were the places she needed to focus her attention on now, especially with the wedding coming up so soon.
Resolved now to put her best foot forward, Pepper entered the casino and made her way toward her office, greeting the other employees by name as she did, until she saw Melinda walking towards her. "Morning, Melinda," she greeted, stopping this time. She'd be surprised if the other woman didn't want to stop and chat for a few minutes at least.
