The reciprocal hug honestly surprised him a bit, but in a good way. They'd come a long way from when she'd first arrived in Madison a year ago and Birkhoff was incredibly grateful for that. It meant he could provide her the support that she needed and that she'd turn to him instead of going off on her own bender. Maybe this was what 'parenting' was all about. Whatever it was, he wasn't going to call attention to it so she didn't feel self-conscious about it.
"Yup," he replied about the rides. "And even if I didn't, it's not like we're hurting for money or anything so we'll just buy more. As many tickets as you want." Birkhoff honestly would drop hundreds of dollars here if that was what she wanted to do, just like he would have when he and Sombra had been at the fair on the first day. "So come on. Lead the way."
