It was better not to have to be, Briar thought, but didn't bother commenting. He hadn't realized that she'd been from the same kind of life, wasn't going to ask the details today, maybe not ever, but if she was a street kid, a gang kid, just like he was, then being bad at stealing led to an even harder life. It was bad enough being orphaned and homeless without being unable to provide for oneself.
"Truth is I ain't never been on 'em," Briar admitted. "Usually just come down to this sorta thing to work and eat." And sometimes hang around with someone. He'd never thought to ride anything, and definitely wasn't going to admit that being thrown through the air didn't sound like a fun time to him.
