Terezi was done work for the day. She loved working at the comic book store. She used to draw her own comics, some of which she had exchanged with Dave over Trollian. That had been fun and thinking about it made her miss him a little. Also everyone else. At least Sollux was around now, even if he did tend to be grumpy sometimes. She decided to take a shortcut through the park. She was walking, minding her own business, when a certain scent caught her nose. She came upon a bench where a woman sat. "Your hair smells like pine trees," she told her. *** Setsuna was reading papers from a student already when Terezi approached. She looked up and smiled. “Is that so? I would not think that.” she pondered a touch, “Why does it smell of pine tree?” she asked, curious. She sniffed her own hair, not quite understanding, but amused too because that was something new. No one had ever commented on the smell of her hair before. ** "Because it's green," Terezi told her as if saying 'duh, obviously'. "I mean, it still smells like whatever shampoo you use, but the color smells like pine trees, which is actually a new smell for me." There wasn't any pine trees on Alternia. She didn't know what they were exactly until Rose told her about them. Apparently, humans chopped them down and brought them into their houses and decorated them for the weird holiday called Christmas. So weird. *** Setsuna paused then smiled a bit, “I did not realize colors had scents.” she laughed softly before shrugging “How interesting. Pine. I would not have imagined pine.” she ran her fingers through her hair then paused again. “A new scent for you? Did you not have pines back home?” she arched a brow at her and set her papers aside. “Though, perhaps, to be fair, my home does not have them while having them.” *** "I'm blind. Smells and taste is how I see colors and things," Terezi explained. She lowered her glasses so the woman can see her eyes, which were completely red and looked like they were burned. Actually, they were. She had looked at the sun when one wasn't supposed to. "No," she shook her head. "I'm from a different planet. We had trees there but not really any pine trees." She didn't mind telling people she was technically an alien. She never really did, even before she came here. "Where is your home?" she asked curiously. *** Setsuna only nodded at the reveal. It was not terribly shocking to her. “Ah, well that explains things then.” she smiled “Quite the adaptation to be able to get that much information from scents and tastes. Impressive.” and to her it was. “Ah, I do like pines, and hope you can enjoy some of the many types.” she said honestly as she laid her hands on her lap and watched her. “I am from Pluto, the planet, originally.” she said softly, “Though I have spent many years in Japan, here on Earth, too. But most of my life has been spent on Pluto.” she admitted. *** "Thanks. My lusus was the one who taught me how to see the world this way," she told her. She missed her dragon mom a lot. She really did owe her so much after she became blind. "It's definitely a favorite of mine," Terezi nodded. She couldn't quite find the right word to describe it, but she loved the scent. "That's cool. So are you an alien too? Like a Plutonian or something?" *** “Your Iusus?” She asked curiously..”I'm grateful you had someone to teach you then. It is an interesting way to do so.” She smiled warmly, though, not meaning any disrespect. “Yes and no.I'm the daughter of the God of Time, I was born outside of it. Pluto was just the planet I was assigned to protect, among other things. It's a little different, though I wouldn't call myself a Plutonian or anything” *** "Oh, a lusus is basically a giant creature that acted like our guardians. Mine was a dragon," Terezi told her. "Yeah, she had to do it telepathically though in my dreams. Long story, but she was asleep throughout most of my life." She did got to talk to her, though, before she died. "Makes sense. I'm actually a troll, but we don't really call ours Alternians or anything like that." That actually sounded very weird when she thought about it. She might have to tell Sollux that. "But you're really the daughter of a Time God? Can you do time shenanigans?" *** “Oh how interesting.” she smiled softly. “A dragon? Sounds like a lovely teacher.” she said softly as she looked up at the sky for a moment, thinking about that one before smiling again. “A troll? I assume then your kind don’t look much like the myths ones from this worlds.” she said easily before nodding. “I can but it’s forbidden - time isn’t something you should mess around with but if I have to I can.” *** "She was the best," Terezi grinned. "Way better than my friend's spidermom." Even though she smiled, there was still a little sadness in her eyes. She missed her dragon lusus. Hell, she even missed Vriska's spider lusus and Vriska usually had to feed other trolls to her. "Nope, not at all," she shook her head. It had annoyed her when people first mistaken her for that kind of troll, but she was used to it now. "I knew a couple people who could mess with time. They did it, well, all the time." *** Setsuna nodded lightly, “Fascinating the differences between all the worlds.” she mused lightly as she looked up again. “I am fascinated by the differences all the time, they can be small or large and are still interesting to me.” Then she laughed softly. “Time shouldn’t be messed with. Things can change and break and it’s not easy to fix. Though it happens from time to time. I can do a few seconds, but anything too long will break things and I rather not.” *** "Or the similarities," Terezi added. "Apparently you guys also have cotton candy on earth too. I was shocked when I found out." She shrugged. "They were Time Players. I think they had this innate ability to know when or when not to mess with it too much. I don't know, time shit gives me a headache." That was why she did things linearly. Unlike her friends who did things going backwards or just skipped to whenever they felt like. *** "We do, this is true. It is ... not my treat of choice but one of my two wards adores it." she grinned a little thinking of Usagi. "She loves the stuff. Or anything sweet, really." she laughed a bit as she shook her head. "Time is very ... interesting and complex. You can manipulate some of it without causing issues but ... overall it's better to not mess with it if you can help it." she smiled gently as she ran her fingers over the hidden belt of keys. She missed the Gate. |
