At the young age, all Cassie was thinking of was the toys in the waiting room. To her credit, Sonya kept the conversation going, assuring her they'd go back when they were done.
The entire time, she tried to keep her distracted, even when the doctor was preparing the shot. Deep down, Sonya knew that a needle was nothing; she herself had been through more invasive surgical procedures than a simple vaccine. Yet this wasn't her being a patient, this was her daughter, and anything that caused Cassie to cry was not something she looked forward to.
"Hey, Cassie.." Both of them saw the needle, but Cassie was too young to get the implications of what it was. "This will hurt for a minute, but..I want you to be brave. This will only hurt for a short while, then it'll be done."
