"When he's old enough to understand, and not be frightened by the idea," she said softly. Because there was no reason for Aspen to be frightened, not here. And there was nothing that said that he would ever go home, even if for some reason they did. That was a blessing. She would never want to leave her baby, but if it was the difference between leaving him here alone in this safe, wonderful place instead of taking him back to the horrible place that was Panem...well, she'd do it. Because he at least deserved a better life. And she loved him enough to break her heart to see him safe.
But now wasn't the time to think of sad things like that. It was a beautiful summer day and everything was good for the moment.
"We should have Katniss over sometime," she said, changing the subject. She'd spoken with Mitsuko about it earlier, and figured she should bring it up with Gale.
