Gale and Madge
Aspen was just shy of one month old. Definitely too small to enjoy, appreciate, or even remember the party, but still. Gale thought it was a good thing for them to attend. He had always liked the gatherings in Madison, and this one seemed to be celebrating the fact they were here.
And if he and Madge hadn't been here, they wouldn't be together. If they'd been sent home, Madge would have died. Instantly. And while Gale's life went on without her, he couldn't imagine that. He hated the thought of going home, because he knew he couldn't remember Madison. He wouldn't remember being in love with Madge, he wouldn't even remember his own son.
So they went to the park to celebrate their lives in Madison. Crazy things might happen under the dome, but here they were together. And Aspen was going to grow up and have a life so much better than his parents had in Panem.
"Are you comfortable?" Gale asked Madge. "Do you want me to get you anything?"
