WHO: Alex Danvers and Barry Allen
WHAT: Having coffee
WHEN: Backdated to before he takes the Mark
WHERE: The Attic
WARNINGS: TBD, probably none
STATUS: Closed/Started in Gdocs, continuing in comments
Barry had meant what he’d said on the network about Alex being like family. Kara was like family, so it obviously carried over to her sister. Sure, he didn’t know her as well as he’d like, but Madison Valley gave them a unique chance to fix that and he planned to take advantage of it.
Once school was out and he didn’t have as tight of a schedule, he invited Alex out for coffee at the Attic. The coffee wasn’t any better or worse than Starbucks, but it was a local place, and maybe not as crowded. It was a good place to sit and talk, which is what this whole meeting was about.
He’d planned to be early, but being Barry Allen, that hadn’t worked out exactly as he’d hoped. He finally arrived at top speed - one second he wasn’t there, the next he was - and gave her a slightly chagrined smile.
“Sorry about that. My alarm didn’t go off.”
He’d made a thousand excuses in his life for being late, but that one was actually true.

Alex had been a bit surprised, pleasantly so, when Barry invited her to coffee. He was someone she really wanted to get to know more while they were both stuck in this place. He was very good friends with Kara, and so that meant he was someone Alex wanted to be better friends with him, too. This was definitely a good way to do so.
She chuckled slightly when he arrived, amused that, even with his speed, he was still just a little bit late. Not much, though. "Ah, so even speedsters sleep in from time to time."
She was clearly joking as this was definitely a reasonable hour to be meeting for coffee.

“Unfortunately for me it’s more than just time to time,” he said with a small laugh. But he was there now, and he hadn’t been that late. For him, anyway. He just felt a little bad that he’d left Alex waiting.
“How do you like your coffee?”
He’d invited her out, after all, and it was only gentlemanly to pick up the tab, even if this wasn’t even vaguely a date.

At first, Alex thought about telling him he didn’t have to do that. But then again, he invited her here. She didn’t want to end of offending him or anything by declining. So she just smiled before saying anything.
“Black,” she said simply.
She liked it different ways, but that’s what she was feeling today.
Now, she was expecting him to speed away, returning seconds later, coffee in hand.

Oh, he sped away, that was sure. But it still took him a few seconds to return since he had to wait in line like everyone else. His superspeed still couldn’t make the line go any faster, unfortunately. But he sped back, the coffee almost appearing in front of her just as he did across from her.
“Sorry. Long line.”
It hadn’t been that long, but his speed had made him a bit impatient. It was just part of being able to things faster than most people could even see.
“So. How’ve you been?”
That sounded like a good place to start, since a lot had happened lately.

Alex was quite amused at the long line statement. She wondered just how many seconds would have been shed had it not been a long line. Probably not many. Super speed was pretty cool.
"No problem," she grinned, accepting her coffee gratefully.
"I've been pretty good. Work's good, took in two wards, my sister is happily married, me and Rosa are good..." Alex didn't really have much to complain about right now. "And I'm sitting here with a friend."
She had to add that part. She hoped this was the start of an even stronger friendship with Barry.
"How are you?"
***
“Things have been better,” he said. “I mean, they’ve been worse too, so I guess I shouldn’t complain, but losing Cisco and Caitlin both so close together was...well,it was hard, you know?”
He’d been developing feelings for Caitlin too, and it had hurt to have that jerked away before they’d ever really had a chance to explore it.
“But I mean...things have been a little weird since then, but not horrible, I guess.”
He wasn’t quite brave enough yet to tell her about hooking up with Sara. He was still trying to come to terms with that himself.
