WHO: Kitty Norville and Liam Dunbar WHAT: Catching Up WHEN: Recently WHERE: Kitty's Place WARNINGS: Nah STATUS: Closed/Started in Gdocs, continuing in comments
Liam hadn’t talked to Kitty in a long time. It hadn’t been on purpose, things had just been crazy with school and with Molly and with everything going on that he just hadn’t had the chance. But now that school was out, it was one of the first things that he wanted to do.
His real mom wasn’t here, and Kitty had taken that place very quickly during the time she’d changed with him. She’d protected him and kept him warm just like a mother wolf should keep her cub, and there had been a bonding between them that Liam couldn’t explain exactly. All that he knew was that this morning it had found him at her door, knocking quietly. He knew that if she was awake, her werewolf hearing would pick up on it just fine.
“Kitty? Are you there? It’s me, Liam.”
*** Kitty was in the middle of doing a little bit of research of past news articles about the town since people arrived, and had paused to take a sip of her coffee when she heard the footsteps approaching her door. When the knock and the voice came, she smiled a bit and shut her laptop, setting it aside, and stretched as she stood. A few seconds later, she was opening the door, a bright smile on her face.
“Liam, hey - come on in.” She stepped back, pulling the door open further for him. “It’s good to see you, but - is everything okay?”
***
“Yeah, yeah, everything’s fine,” he assured her. And it was true, everything was fine. He had no complaints about his life right now, especially with the way things were moving with Molly. Most of the time he was pretty sure he was the luckiest guy in the world.
“I just wanted to see how things were going,” he said. “I hadn’t talked to you in a while.”
*** “Good,” she said, shutting the door once he was inside. “Want anything to drink?” At his words, she gave him a smile while picking up her coffee mug and heading to the kitchen to pour herself some more. “I’m doing okay. Just, you know, getting settled in general.” She gave a light shrug.
After a brief pause, she continued on. “I finally talked to Jeremy about joining the Pack. During the picnic, we talked for a little bit.”
***
Liam’s eyes widened at that.
“Oh? How did that go?”
He’d known she was planning to, and he entirely understood why. If his Alpha and his pack weren’t here, he’d definitely be trying to join one of the ones that was.
***
“It went pretty well. He said he’s going to think about it, and I’m sure he’s going to talk to the Pack and see what they think, and I’ll probably have to come out there more often.” Her shoulders lifted and fell as she stepped back out of the kitchen with her newly filled mug, taking a long sip.
“I’m hoping it doesn’t take too long.”
***
“That would be cool,” he said. “I live there, you know.”
He lived there because Scott lived there. He wasn’t officially a member of Jeremy’s pack, but he just had a need to be near his own Alpha.
“They’re nice. Kind of crazy sometimes, but nice.”
***
“Yeah, I know,” she said, then smiled at him. “And hey, this would give us the chance to see each other more often.” Kitty felt a little bad she hadn’t been out to the Pack house very often, barely a couple times a month, really, and she had decided to visit more regularly - and not only just to see Liam. She did honestly want to be a part of Jeremy’s pack and get to know the others.
“Crazy how?” She asked it while walking back over to the couch and sitting, motioning for him to sit wherever he wanted.
***
“I’d like that,” he said. And he really would. He liked Kitty a lot and it was nice to know that there was someone here who was kind of like a mom. He needed that. He needed someone he could turn to when Scott was busy. And of course, there were things that only moms could help you with.
“Well, not in a bad way. There’s just a lot of parties and stuff. And there’s Nick. Who is crazy. And will for sure flirt with you.”
***
“So would I,” Kitty replied with a smile, cupping her hands around her mug as she sipped her coffee. She hadn’t been expecting to take on such a big sister/mother role for Liam - or anyone else, for that matter - but she liked it and she cared about him.
“Ha - yeah, he’s already flirted with me a couple times, but he’s really not my type.” Plus, the fact that he was the boyfriend of her doppleganger’s daughter made it all just a little too weird and incestuous for her.
“How are things with Molly?”
***
“Yeah...he thinks he’s everybody’s type, but he really isn’t,” Liam said. He really didn’t get why all the girls thought Nick was all that. Liam thought he was a bit of a douche sometimes. Although other times he really liked him.
“Molly’s great,” he said. “I think her dads are getting used to me, which is good. They used to terrify me so much. It was awful.”
Having your girlfriend’s two parents be superheroes could definitely be a little intimidating.
***
Kitty had to grin at that, and shook her head a bit. “I’ve met guys like that, so I get it.” She didn’t really know Nick that well, but she’d have to get to know him soon since he was in the Pack she was hoping to join.
“I’m glad, I know you were a little worried about that. I’m pretty sure parents of your significant other are usually pretty scary until you get to know them better, and they get more used to you.”
It’d been a long time since she’d been in that position herself, but she could still remember it.
*** “Yeah. I mean, they still don’t really like me, I don’t think, but they’re starting to tolerate me. And they’re not threatening me as much.”
Liam was still pretty sure he could take them if it came down to it, but he was also pretty sure that Molly would be really pissed off and that it would ruin any chance he had of really being with her for the long, long, long time that he wanted to be.
“They’re both, like, superheroes. And like 100 years old. So they have some kind of old-fashioned ideas.”
***
“I’m sure they’ll like you eventually,” Kitty said with a grin, drinking some more coffee. When he went on to explain more about them, she blinked a couple of times, then shook her head.
“Wow...yeah, I can see why they’d be old-fashioned. But at least you’ve had time to get to know them and vice versa. But like I said, it’ll be okay eventually. You’re a likeable guy, Liam.” It still blew her mind how many different kind of people there were in Madison Valley, and the relative peace they all lived in.
***
“I have a temper,” he admitted. “I’ve done some stupid things in the past. I really pissed them off once last year.” And if they found that he was having sex with Molly now he didn’t think they’d like him much at all even though it had been like a thousand percent consensual.
But he shrugged.
“But I’m doing better, I think. And I don’t think your girlfriend’s parents are really supposed to like you. Are they?”
***
“It helps if they do, but sometimes they don’t and it’s still okay,” Kitty replied. Pushing her hair out of her face, she took another sip of coffee as she studied him over the rim, then lowered the mug again.
“If you need me to step in and talk to them sometime, I can,” she offered, though to be honest she wasn’t sure if it would do much good, particularly since in general, she and Liam didn’t know each other that well. They really needed to change that.
“Speaking of - can you tell me more about where you’re from, originally? Do you have family back there?”
