Astrid had used the few moments of his surprise to put distance between them - the further away she was, the less likely it was that she’d end up with a face full of snow herself. She fully expected to tske some hits, but she also fully expected to win - she did no matter what sort of competition or battle she entered into.
She took shelter behind a narrow tree, bending down to reload. She made a pile of snowballs, keeping one in her hand as she peeked out to locate Hiccup. She didn’t see him at first, but a snowball that smacked her in the chest gave away his position and she grinned wickedly as she threw three in that direction in quick succession.
