Just about two weeks into Ramadan and Amaar was starting to discover just how difficult the fast was without a community to fall back on. Zari was there, and a huge help he wasn’t sure that he had the strength to make it through on his own, but being without dozens of people to draw strength from was a lot harder than he’d thought. He’d thought his faith would have pulled him through without a problem the way it had done the last several years, since he’d become much more observant. He hadn’t expected to struggle the way he was, and it almost, not quite but almost, made him question himself and his path in life.
But if it was hard for a man who had dedicated himself to Allah the way Amaar had, then he could only imagine how much harder it was for his only companion who was fasting for a second time due to a twist of fate. His struggles were obviously meant to highlight hers to him, and so he decided it was a good idea to do something nice for her. To help her.
His first thought, paused outside the chocolate shop on Main Street, was obviously sweets. But the timing was bad for that, she couldn’t enjoy them and he was pretty sure it was his own hunger that had stopped him, even drew him inside to look around.
