Amberle felt connected to Wil now more than ever, and more than that, she felt alive. She wanted to live her life to the fullest in Madison because going home meant dying. Wasting her chances here wasn't ever something she wanted to do, not anymore. She and Wil had been having a lot of fun lately and now that the weather was starting to improve, that would mean spending more and more time together outdoors. There were so many modern conveniences that made camping less like home, but some things she didn't mind. Like the heavy duty blankets and sleeping bags that allowed for a more comfortable resting place.
She'd gone out for a few groceries and was on her way back to their home when she saw Kenny walking toward her. Amberle grinned and stepped into his path in order to say hello. Maybe she could add one more thing to her shopping bag for them to enjoy this weekend.
"Hey, Kenny," she greeted warmly. "How are you?"
***
It had definitely been quite an interesting and fun week for Kenny. The Beltane Festival had been a lot of fun and he was glad Laura decided to throw the little party. He had to wonder what she'll come up with next. Then there was the weekend where he was some sex sadist and did things with Ella. Luckily she didn't mind too much and they decided to try it some more. He was cool with it, but a part of him did wonder if he was messed up that he got turned on by pain.
But he didn't really want to think about it. So when he spotted Amberle, he was glad for the distraction. "Hey," he grinned at her. "I'm doing good. Had an interesting week. How about you?" Despite the fact that he was close to both Eretria and Wil, he never really spoke to Amberle. Guess now was a good time as any.

Even after being in Madison for almost two years, Amberle hadn't gotten all that better at reaching out to people and maintaining friendships. She was trying to get better with it each day and the opportunity to catch up with Kenny was the perfect example. If it had been a few months ago, she probably wouldn't have even noticed him as she walked home. Now though, she felt more comfortable with being friendly with him.
"Not too bad," Amberle replied with a smile. "I saw you enjoyed the bonfire as much as Wil and I did," she added, trying her hand at teasing him. That was what friends did, she knew, but sometimes it wasn't easy for her to read said friendships and personalities. "Wil and I were going to go camping this weekend so I was just getting some supplies," she explained. "What are you up to?"
***
"Yeah, I saw you guys too," Kenny replied. "Didn't expect to but looks like you both had fun too." It did surprise him a bit seeing them, but when he thought about It, maybe it wasn't such a surprise. "I hope there's another one soon because that was a lot of fun."
He nodded. "Camping or 'camping'?" he asked using air quotations at the second camping and waggling his eyebrows at her jokingly. "I got bored so I decided to go out and see what trouble I can get into," he shrugged.
***
Amberle chuckled a little at that. "We've been trying to take advantage of things like that ever since Wil came back." She didn't want to get into the exact details, but it made sense for them and that was all that mattered. "Maybe now that the weather is getting better, Laura can be convinced to host an adult only bonfire more frequently." She wasn't so sure she'd want to go to the strip club unless there was some kind of party, but a bonfire out in the woods would always get her attention.
"Probably a mix of both," she admitted easily. "Would I be able to purchase some weed from you before we head out for the weekend?" They both indulged in it on a fairly regular basis, Amberle moreso now that she'd tried it a few times. She liked the way it made her feel and the effects it had on her and Wil's sex lives.
***
"Oh, yeah, don't blame you for that." Wil had told him about dying, so Kenny was glad that he and Amberle decided to live life to the fullest. "I'll talk to her. She'll probably be up for throwing another orgy. I'd be surprised if she didn't." It was one of the things he liked about Laura. "Hell, I'll even throw one myself if I have to."
He grinned and nodded. "Sure, I can give you some before you head out," he said. "So Wil finally got you to try it, huh? How do you like it?"
***
She certainly appreciated that he was just as interested in enjoying the events that Laura put on. "I think you'd get just as much interest," Amberle encouraged. She and Wil would likely go, though perhaps they'd just have some fun for themselves. She was just glad that the weather was shaping up so that they'd be able to spend much more time outdoors.
Her cheeks colored a bit when he asked her how she'd liked weed. "He did, a while ago, now. It's...unlike anything I've experienced before, but it was quite enjoyable." Amberle knew her boyfriend appreciated how it affected her. "It's something we've come to enjoy together on the weekends. It's common in your world, isn't it?"
***
"Maybe. Guess we'll see," he shrugged. Maybe Laura would do another orgy soon or maybe he'd do his own. Either way, it'll probably be awhile before it happened, even though having an orgy every weekend sounded pretty damn awesome.
He grinned. "That's good. It's a good way to relax and have fun," he said. He nodded. "Yeah, it's common here. Not always legal, which is bullshit, but whatever," he shrugged. He didn't see anything wrong with weed. It was just plants. Other drugs, he understood (but didn't care as he still took them). But weed? He didn't get why it was illegal.
***
Amberle nodded at that, because he was certainly right about that. "There are always events and parties to attend. Maybe a nice mix of the more family friendly and adult only would be alright." She liked being social with people on a more regular basis, since that was something she was working on getting better at.
She made a face when he said it wasn't always legal. "That seems unnecessary, but that is good to know." Amberle had been known to break rules before and this seemed like as dumb a rule as some of the others she'd broken in the past. "It affects me in a way that I would not have guessed would make it illegal. Perhaps if it was used on someone against their will?"
***
"True," Kenny nodded. People definitely liked to throw parties here, not that he was complaining. "I definitely prefer the adult only ones. Sometimes the family friendly parties are a bit boring, but that's just me," he shrugged.
He smiled sheepishly. "Yeah, guess I should've told you and Wil that it's illegal." He obviously didn't care too much for laws and rules, so he forgot to mention it. Oh well. She didn't seem to care too much either. "I have no idea why it would be. It's just a plant. Other drugs, I get, but not weed."
He shrugged. "I don't really know how anyone can use it against their will. Anyone who's tried it seem to do it on their own accord."
***
It didn't really surprise her that Kenny didn't prefer the family friendly parties. He hadn't seemed all that thrilled with small children when those potential future kids had rained down on them, or at least so she recalled. Amberle did wave off any concern when he said he should have told them it was illegal. It didn't really matter in a place like this, and she never went to work impaired. It was just for fun useage on the weekends.
"If someone were to inhale without realizing what it was, perhaps? It does seem to...lower inhibitions in a sense." Sometimes that just meant finding joy in the absolutely mundane, but for her it also meant a lower threshold for arousal and what she was willing to do to seek that pleasure. "How many other types of these drugs are there?"
***
"Maybe," Kenny shrugged. "But you know, they can just stay away." He only really ever smoked in his home. Occasionally he'd smoke out in the open. But he rarely smoked in a public place with lots of people around. The only time he did was in smoking areas and that was regular cigarettes.
"Lots of kinds," he told her. "There's pills like uppers, downers, ecstasy, and so on. Hallucinogens like LSD, mushrooms, acid. And others like cocaine, meth, heroin. Which by the way, don't do those last three. Those are pretty shitty."
***
Amberle nodded at that, understanding the sentiment easily enough. What she was more curious about were the various words he said. They didn't have any particular meaning to her, though she was able to extrapolate some of it. Uppers likely made someone happy, downers perhaps made someone sad. Ecstasy was a feeling so perhaps that was what it caused?
"Why would there be such drugs that are harmful as you say?" Weed was enjoyable and caused no harm to anyone, but it sounded like those sorts of drugs similar to cocaine, meth and heroin did not follow in the same way.
***
Well, she'd almost be right. Downers more of less made people calm, not made them sad. But she was basically right about the other things.
"No idea," he replied with a shrug. "I think some were originally used for medical purposes but they're highly addictive and people starting abusing them. And being addicted to that shit is the worst."
***
Humans were very, very weird. Amberle had always understood that to be the case, but this was just another reminder of that fact. Only humans would find a way to create something that would be so addictive it would ruin lives in the way that Kenny was explaining to her. She wasn't unfamiliar with the idea of substances being addictive. Magic was addictive in the wrong or untrained hands, but this was different. This was medication that ruined someone's life if used improperly.
"I do not think I’ll ever get used to how destructive humans can be,” she admitted. Still, that was something she would eventually get used to depending on how long she was allowed to stay in Madison. Amberle smiled at her friend, happy to switch gears.
“It was nice running into you,” she said, knowing she needed to be heading home soon. “You don’t mind sharing with us?” Not that she had any idea of where else they could get weed, but they would find something if it was a burden on Kenny.
***
"Yeah, we're pretty fucked up like that. I'm probably the worst. At least, more self destructive anyway," Kenny shrugged. He didn't mean to be most of the time but it usually just ended up that way.
He shook his head. "Nah, I don't mind at all. Don't worry about it," he said, waving her off. "Honestly, I'm glad you're enjoying it so much. And I have lots if you or Wil ever need any."
***
"I do not think you are the worst," Amberle countered with a frown. The truth was, she didn't know too much about Kenny's life or the choices he made, just that he threw decent parties, had weed, and was Wil's friend. Those things meant she thought he was rather nice, especially since he continued to offer them the opportunity to indulge.
"Particularly because of how generous you are. That certainly isn't very destructive behavior." Maybe she would ask Wil what Kenny meant, because it just wasn't adding up for her.
***
"Well, no, that's not," he replied. "But I do shit that has gotten me killed a lot. Like the drugs I mentioned, I do those a lot. And I put myself in danger all the time." He didn't really know why. He just went out and did it.
***
Amberle just sort of looked at him. That didn't make any sense. No one could be killed 'a lot' and yet still be standing in front of her. Maybe she just misunderstood what he ment. "I still do not think you're the worst," she reiterated, since it was sort of the only response she could think of.
She glanced at her watch and realized if she didn't hurry, she was going to be late. "I need to run, but I'll text you," Amberle promised.
***
Kenny just shrugged in response. He guessed Wil never told her about the immortality thing. Oh well.
"Yeah, sure," he said. "Nice chatting with you. See you later," he waved.
