WHO: Mitsuko and Billy WHAT: A meetup in Waterdeep WHEN: Today WARNINGS: None STATUS: Closed and Completed GDoc
Mitsuko was the type to go and explore when something new happened. So when a new portal opened, she of course decided to check it out at least once. She'd make sure to avoid any of the more dangerous zones, even if she kind of did wanted to go there too, so she'd stick to the main part of the town.
She was walking around, looking at the various shops, looking through the windows. She heard there was some interesting trinkets she could buy and since she had some money, she figured why not buy herself a little something. This place was quite interesting so far and having a souvenir might be cool to have.
She spotted something that caught her interest in one of the windows. She went over to get a better look and spotted Billy. "Hey," she greeted him. She hadn't really spoken to him since they woke up after he had been Carol. She hadn't meant to avoid him, she was both trying to think about things between them and being busy with school.
"Decided to check this place out too?"

Billy was dressed in a tunic and buskins from this place, having cashed in some money to change, and had a belt with a short sword and a dagger hanging from them, both used, and looking it. He grinned as he spotted Mitsuko. “Hey you. Yeah. I went and did a little spelunking, and got some equipment, but yeah, It’s fun.”
He had some skills, and had managed to survive an encounter with a small band of goblins, and had looted the fallen bodies of adventurers for equipment, then brought the bodies back, and gotten a small reward for it.
*** "I see that," Mitsuko grinned at his new attire. She glanced down at his belt. "Nice sword," she commented. It was pretty cool. She never really seen any weapons other than Katniss' bow and her own kama sickle she'd received from the Program prior to her arrival in Madison Valley.
"I just got here, so I haven't done much yet," she told him with a shrug. "I'm thinking of buying that bracelet there," she pointed to it. "But now I kind of want a sword now."
She probably wasn't someone who shouldn't have a sword. She didn't have as much homicidal thoughts lately, but they were still there.
***
Billy grinned at her. “Thanks! I’m enjoying it so far. How have you been?” He raised an eyebrow at her. “Do you want to get both? This is a world where swords are useful and wellmade.”
He nodded to her, curious about her choices. “We could spar with them, then.” He nodded to his own weapon. He was far less used to it than he was hand to hand, but he was glad to be able to have one, just in case.
“I know a good shop, not too far away. Er, for swords, I mean.”
***
"I've been alright," Mitsuko told him. "Busy with school. I can't wait until summer vacation." Sleeping in and sunbathing? Yes, please.
At the mention of getting both, she nodded. "Yeah, why not?" As far as she knew, portals didn't open twice, so she might as well get as many things as she could while she had the chance.
"I've never sparred before, though."
***
“I’m looking forward to graduating. It’s so close I can taste it.” He shook his head, grinning, eyes warm. He felt a little bouncy today and was enjoying the freeness of this place.
“Yeah? Cool.” He glanced at the store they were at then headed for the door to go in.
“The Fight Science Academy has great teachers, and we could practice after lessons, then?” He nodded to her.
***
"Lucky you. I still have a couple years to go.” She had the mind to just drop out. She really didn't see the point of school. She really only went because of Katniss. Which annoyed her, but then so did anything that reminded her she cared about people.
She followed him inside, heading to the bracelet she saw and looking at it. "I'll have to check it out," she said. "And sure, we can try that."
***
“I did, but I ended up back home and spent several years there, before coming back this last time.” he shook his head. He looked mostly the same if a little taller. He just was glad to be Kenny shook his head. "Nah, it's bound to happen to everyone sooner or later," he shrugged. "I mean, if it can affect forces of nature and the Devil himself, then it can affect all of us."
That had definitely surprised him the first time, that even Death and Dream and Lucifer all could be under the dome's spells. By now, though, he just shrugged it off.
"I can't wait to see what the next thing will be," he said. "I mean, as long as it's not nightmares or future kids again, I'm cool with whatever comes." back.
“If you ever want to study together, I am always available for that.” He nodded.
“Sweet!” he watched her as she checked it out, following along, grinning, and whistling. “That looks nice!”
***
"Maybe I should do that just so I can skip a few years," Mitsuko joked. Obviously she didn't have a choice. Plus she was pretty sure she'd die if she went back home anyway. She'd like to have won the Program but who really knows.
"Okay, cool." She probably shouldn't be around sharp objects but oh well. Billy was the last person she'd harm, even on accident.
"It is quite beautiful," she nodded as she put it on her wrist she admired it. After a moment, she decided to buy it.
***
Billy chuckled. “Maybe.” he was enjoying this, and he wished he knew more about her world, and more about her. But he never asked. Her world seemed painful.
“It looks amazing on you. Better than when it was by itself.” And as corny as that sounded, he meant it.
***
It was indeed quite painful. It wasn't just the whole forcing kids to kill each other thing, it was also the horrible abuse she suffered as a child. She didn't really like thinking about it, let alone talk about it. So she never really said anything.
Yes, it was corny and Mitsuko couldn't help but roll her eyes a bit. But deep down, she appreciated the compliment. "It is quite beautiful," she said as she looked at it a bit more before she took it off and went to buy it.
Once she did, she decided to wear it as they headed outside. "So where's this place that has swords?" she asked.
***
Billy grinned at her, and walked with her down the street. “This way. Its just a few streets away, right next to a creamery.” He was feeling pretty cool right now.
“This place is kind of silly, but not bad, and other than a lack of the foods I like and the lack of showers, I could like it.” But he did like his creature comforts, true. Sometimes, though, he just liked kicking some ass.
***
"'kay," she smiled and followed him to the store that apparently sold swords.
"It's quite interesting, that's for sure," Mitsuko nodded as she glanced around. She never thought she'd be in a place like this. "I'm not sure I could live here, though. Especially with the lack of showers. I love showers." Honestly, she could spend hours in the shower. She sometimes did, but since she lived with two other people, she tried not to hog the bathroom.
***
“Yeah. I wouldn’t want to live here full time either. Just visit.” he nodded. This place was dangerous and that would get old fast. He pointed out some short swords and long swords that might suit her.
“I like---hey!” He caught someone trying to pick his pocket and slapped their hands, then kicked them away as they pulled a dagger.
A moment later and the store’s bouncer was there and dragging off the offending thief. Billy shook his head.
“That happens too often here.”
*** Mitsuko nodded. "I definitely prefer Madison Valley, even if it puts us through some crazy shit," she said.
She went to look at the swords then suddenly turned when Billy shouted and she saw some guy trying to steal from him. She watched as the owner took the wannabe thief outside.
"Huh, guess we'll have to be careful here," she said, then unphased, she shrugged and turned back to the swords. "I like this one," she pointed to one of the short ones.
***
“Yeah, a lot.” He moved to peer at the sword, and grinned at her. “It looks good.” He lifted it carefully, pulling it back out of the sheath a little to see the sword metal and nodding. “Good quality.”
He rolled one shoulder grinning. “It could definitely work in that hand of yours.”
***
"How do you know?" Mitsuko asked curiously. To her, they all seemed the same. Just the size was different and also how they looked. But she never used a sword, she had no idea what was good or bad quality.
"You would know, wouldn't you?" she smirked, winking at him a bit.
***
He lifted it, and nodded to her to hold it in her hands, and weigh it. “The heft of it, the balance, and the look of it. I learned a little about swords while I was back home. I had to forge one, once.”
He smiled and flushed a little. But he gamely grinned back at her. “You do have a good grip.”
*** "I never really thought about all of that," she said. Really, though, she just didn't care. A weapon was a weapon to her. As long as it worked, she didn't really care. "Really? That's cool."
She grinned. "Hopefully it'll make holding a sword easier for me."
***
“I imagine having a good grip will do that. And I am sure that with practice your grip will; get even better.” His cheeks flamed red as he spoke.
“With weapons, of course.” Of course.
“After this, I want to show you a tavern I like. It overlooks an entrance into the Undermountain, a huge dungeon with monsters in it.” He paused. “It also happens to have a lot of the best food in town.”
*** "Of course," she smirked a bit.
Monsters? Part of Mitsuko was a bit scared, part of her was curious what these monsters looked like. Either way, she was game for checking out the tavern. "Sure thing. I am kind of hungry, anyway." She hadn't eaten much since breakfast, so getting a bite to eat sounded good to her.
"So is this sword good?" she asked, holding up the one they were looking at.
***
Billy grinned. Flirting a little was fun. Mitsuko and he were still friends and that mattered more to him than anything else involved in the whole mess. Sex was fun, but friendship was better.
“Yeah? Cool. The Yawning Portal is cool.”
He turned his eyes to the sword and nodded. “Sure. It’s not finestkind, but affording a sword that is really, really good is out of our league.” he grinned at her. “This one will kill monsters and help defend you from the like.”
*** "Yawning Portal? Who came up with that name?" she asked. It seemed a bit of an odd name, but then she shrugged. She heard of weirder names name, she supposed.
She nodded as she looked at the sword again. There were definitely better-looking ones, but she only had so much money, so she could only buy from the lower price sections. "Well, as long as it helps defend against monsters, right?" she grinned.
***
“The founder, I think. It sits on a doorway to a dungeon, by way of a large well, and a long drop.” He chuckled. “A lot of adventurers go in. Fewer come out.” he nodded, as they walked.
“Would you like me to get a better one for you?”
He offered the idea, not wanting her to feel she was bereft.
***
"Still an odd name," she shrugged.
She paused for a moment. "Could you? Cause that'd be great," she said. "I'll pay you back somehow." Usually, she would've convinced him to get it for her for free. Use her charm and all that. That was how she usually got free stuff. But Billy was different. He was a friend and she didn't want to do that with him.
God, she was getting soft.
***
“You don’t have to. You know that. You‘re my friend, and I bet you will be kickass with a cool sword.” he grinned at her. He thought she was kickass anyway, but with a sword that fit to her, he thought she would be even better.
“Some of this moment isn’t any good back home, and that means I have a little money to burn, and I’ve always believed that spending it on friends was cool. “ he nodded.
He waved toward the store manager. “We can ask for something fitting your bodytype, and go from there?”
He nodded.
*** "Okay, if you're sure," she said after a while. She did want a sword and one that suited her seemed better. And if he was willing to pay for it, then she'd go along with it, even if she still wanted to repay him somehow.
"Yeah, sure. Whatever you think we should do, we'll do because I have no idea," she replied with a little grin. She really didn't, so she'll let him take the reins on this.
***
“I am. I like doing nice things for friends. Its fun., and as long as they understand I am not trying to buy them, it's all good.”
He nibbled one lip as he examined the swords and nodded.
“We can find you a good sword, and have our own adventure.” It sounded like a good day to him.
***
She nodded. "As long as you're sure, then yeah, let's get a sword." And she let him pick one out for her. He seemed to know more about them than she did and she trusted that he'd pick a good one for her.
Once they got one, they headed outside and out to whatever adventure awaited them.
