Mary Campbell and Johanna
Where Johanna had come from sounded like a twisted sort of dystopia and Mary felt bad instantly. Just the part of kids being brought together to kill each other was horrible that not knowing the rest? It was as Johanna put it: better if they didn't speak of it. It was supposed to be lighthearted and yes, they were hoping to have a good time today.
"I'm sorry to hear," Mary replied, shaking her head. "That sounds just horrible." Not that Mary's own past was not filled with sadness at points and definite pitfalls, but it was different sort of bad. Losing her parents, finding out her sons ended up in the same life as herself? It was a lot. "I'm glad to hear that he sings," Mary added.
