He wouldn't laugh, he was way worse than she was at the rambling. Or at least if he ever did laugh it would be because it would have reminded him of himself and he'd tell her that.
"I joined the UNSC while I was still in school. My planet was destroyed while I was still in training, I spent years in heavy combat and training with the Freelancers...I never really had a chance." He didn't realize that it maybe sounded worse when he said it because he was just so matter of fact about it. He'd learned a long time ago to shut off any feeling about his family and everyone he'd known before joining the military being gone.
