"Friend and ex of any kind normally don't end up in the same sentence together," Jessica commented. Granted, she might have been a sort of exception to this statement too because of Luke, but then again, her and Luke were never "together together" even if she had ended up caring about him more than she expected at the end of everything. Still, they made peace with whatever they had been and sort of promised to be there for each other if shit hit the fan for either of them before Jess had arrived in Madison Valley. Being part of that group had a few positive aspects after all, but they were very few and none of which brought Matt back to them either.
With the comment of of crazy and awesome, Jessica almost pointed out that those two things usually never traits found together in a person, but she decided against it. It was obvious this guy cared for Star or whoever the hell she was and he missed her. Again, Jessica was grateful no one she knew was here because then she might end up in the exact same boat as this sap over here. Well, except for the lighting fire part in random trash can behind restaurants. Jessica would probably have chosen the more self-destructive route of drinking heavily and then passing out cold for a few days. Yeah, she definitely lacked in healthy coping skills.
"Maybe she'll come back. People do," Jessica replied. "I mean some of them don't remember being here, but they do come back sometimes." So, the last past was definitely not reassuring and bound to make the situation worse, but Jessica wasn't exactly good at consoling people.
