Day three of this place, and Tom still didn't like it any better. Especially since he'd actually run into Nico already. But at the same time, it wasn't entirely terrible. He wasn't used to things being quite so peaceful, no -- he was New York born and raised -- but most of the people were decent enough. It was nice dealing with people who weren't some form of guilty, honestly, it really was. Being a lawyer, his life had involved too much of that for too many years.
He was trying to settle into some sort of ease about everything, which was a little easier said than done. Getting out there and exploring was helping, which was what had brought him to the bookstore in the first place. There was a lot about him that most people didn't know, that people who knew him certainly wouldn't expect, and the fact that he knew his way around a bookstore was one of them. Oh, he was smart, yes. That was readily apparent to anybody who spent five minutes around him. But more than that, he liked learning and always had.
Of course, spending time in a bookstore was also another good way to get a read on people; it was amazing what you could learn about people from seeing what they read.
He'd been in the store for half an hour or so when he realized somebody was watching him. Another ten minutes let him figure out that it was a brunette girl a few feet away. He looked up from the book he was holding and glanced at her curiously.
