Leia felt much stronger than she had when she had first arrived, she tried to use her cane less though carried it with her just in case she should need it but she felt lighter. She supposed that’s what happened when the weight of the fate of the universe wasn’t resting on your shoulders. For now anyway.
She was looking into work and after talking with Stilinski felt much more confident in her skills and what direction she could go in. Thankfully the latest crazy occurence had finished and people had emerged unscathed as far as she knew. It was a nice day and so she had decided to take a slow walk around the town, familiarising herself with it was something she was working on. So far it was going well.
***
Arthur had been out for a swim, and he had hopped out of a small creek, and clambered up to normal land, glancing around, before choosing a direction to go. The cold and swiftly drying water on him didn’t bother him, and the clothing he wore, atlantean in nature, tended to dry quickly.
Turning a particularly blind corner, he almost bumped into someone, before stopping and extending a hand to make sure they were steady as he smiled. “Hey. Sorry about that. Didn’t see you around the corner.”
His voice was warm, and a low rumble of sound, and carried despite it’s not loud tone.

Leia did take hold of the arm that was extended to help herself regain her balance but still smiled at the man, “No harm done” she said, “I’m not as quick a mover as I used to be” she added with a wry but amused tone.
“Are you new here?” she asked, curiously she didn’t think he was a local by his manner of dress and while she didn’t know everybody she knew a number of faces.
***
Once she was steady, he smiled at her, gently squeezing one of her shoulders. She was strong, and she had a spark in her eyes that was intriguing. He grinned wider. “I think I would not bet against your swiftness, should it be needed.” he spoke the words softly, eyes alight.
“Relatively, yes. And not one for the network as much as many others are. I am more of a moving around person, myself.” he waved a hand around them.
***
“Well thank you. That’s very kind of you to say” Leia said, though in truth should she need it she certainly had a thing or two up her sleeve. She wasn’t as helpless as most people assumed.
“Of course, I can appreciate that. I know a few people who are similar in that regard. Am I right to believe your world is different to this? Or are you from somewhere close to this one?”
***
“You’re welcome.” Arthur would not doubt that at all. He always had found that the ones who seemed quiet held the deepest secrets. And strengths.
“It’s a little like it, but more active, and I’m used to moving across the entire thing, and across space, as well.” Arthur grinned. “Being idle is an exercise in learning again.”
***
He seemed to be a very interesting man, Leia got a good feeling from him and as such was interested to hear more about him.
“That’s the perfect way to describe it, being idle is rather new to me too. Though I can’t say that it’s something I mind, for a while anyway” Leia smiled, “Space is somewhere I am much more used to, it’s a strange thing to be stuck planetside. As you say it’s all about learning while we are here”
***
Arthur smiled to her, listening. She had a feeling of calm, and kindness, and he was enjoying this accidental conversation.
He glanced around as she spoke, spotting a cafe, and waved toward it. “Care to join me for a drink?”
“A vacation is not a bad thing. But once it crosses months… I have no idea how I will feel.” he shook his head. “I am used to dealing with more threats and more action.”
***
“That would be lovely” she agreed with a nod, moving towards it with him. She did enjoy how friendly people were here, and how open they were to talking to each other.
“You and I sound much alike, and I am sure you are right. But perhaps finding something to occupy our time here will help, I know others have said it does”
***
Walking with her, glancing toward her, Arthur smiled wryly at her words. “I work. I flirt. I spar some. I swim, a lot, and keep the waterways clear. But its still small potatoes when once you ruled the seven seas. A dome this size is… quiet.”
He chuckled. “I’m not trying to brag or act like I am something special. I’m not. I am just… still adjusting. How is the adjustment working for you?”
***
Leia hummed her agreement, “Small potatoes compared to a whole galaxy too” she smiled before laughing softly but kindly, “Oh I have no doubt you are certainly special” she could sense that much about him, “I’m getting there. I’m appreciating the change of pace, after all I am getting on a bit” she gave a wry smile, “But there’s no denying it’s harder than I thought it would be. Idleness isn’t something I’ve ever really experienced for long”
***
Arthur grinned. She did understand, and he liked that. His smile was gentle, and warm as he held the door for her. “Bah, I am not special, miss. Just a stranger in the streets, as they say.” He chuckled and followed her in, nodding toward the tables. “Looks like we’ve got our run of the place.” There was some business, but less than there would be later.
Arthur snorted. “I doubt age is getting to you nearly so much as some would have it so.” He nodded, then, again, and smiled.
“Settling in can be hard. But you will adapt, and find a purpose, I’m sure.”
***
“Mmm I’m not sure I believe that at all” she told him with a nod of thanks as he held open the door, there was definitely something about him. Something more than just a friendly manner and strength of character.
Leia chuckled, “Well thank you for the compliment, you’re a smart man” she told him with a grin before nodding in agreement, “It will happen when it happens, as with most things”
***
Arthur chuckled at her response. Hmmm, he had best be careful. This woman was canny, and smart in ways he had not encountered recently. Oh Sigrun and Diana were both brilliant, but it was a different smarts.
He chuckled again.
“Of course. Adapting to this place takes time, and effort, and planning. I am sure you will find your way.” he grinned as he lifted a water that was delivered with their menus. “And I will be here to help, if I can.”
***
Leia’s intuitiveness had always been there but it wasn’t entirely natural. The force helped her along sometimes and she’d learnt to listen to it. More so in the last few years. So far it had not steered her wrong.
“And I you, should you need it” Leia offered lifting her own glass.
***
“Now we should order, and you can perhaps tell me more of your world?” He grinned at her, nodding. “I find myself curious to know what universe produced such a fascinating woman.”
Was he flirting? Maybe a little. But mostly, he was truly curious. This had turned into a rather nice morning.
***
“Of course. Though I should warn you my tale is not a short one” Leia smiled, but it was one she would share happily.
And she would never complain about the flirting, it was harmless and it was nice. She found herself rather pleased that they had come across each other, another friend was always welcome.
***
“The short tales are rarely as much fun as the long ones. I do enjoy getting in depth, and finding out where all the rather intriguing nooks and crannies are hidden.” his grin was warm.
“And if we don’t finish today, we can always finish over dinner some day.”
***
“Well it should certainly keep you entertained” Leia promised before smiling, “Now that’s just giving me a reason to ensure we don’t finish too quickly” she told him warmly.
***
“I hope so. I do enjoy finding new ways to enjoy life.” Arthur smiled, and nodded again. He was glad he had ventured forth today and he was gonna get gas met this formidable woman.
“I'm in your hands, miss. Do with me as you will.” He winked. This was turning into a great day.
