Who: Pietro Maximoff and Alex Undinov What: The best kind of birthday surprise! Where: Their loft When: Wednesday Evening Warning: Lots of cuteness Status: Closed/Complete Gdoc
Pietro was nervous. This wasn’t exactly new but it wasn’t an emotion he experienced regularly. He was generally a very confident person, in almost every aspect of his life. But despite his nerves he felt, truly felt, that now was the right time. He’d picked out a ring weeks ago and been keeping it on him just in case but that morning he’d woken up and something in him knew that today was the day.
He’d prepared food that afternoon and set everything up so it was a pretty romantic setting. Now he was just waiting for Alex to come home.
***
Alex was having a pretty good day. It was her birthday. She didn't always celebrate them, not when her life was in upheaval. Things were different now. Her life was a lot less hectic and a lot more joyful. Settling here had been great for her, and Pietro was a big reason for that. There were people and things in Madison Valley that gave her purpose, none more than he did.
She was certain he had something planned, so she made sure to dress a little nicer and presentable after work. Somehow, she didn't think workout clothes would be appropriate. It appeared, when she stepped inside their little loft, that she'd been correct about that.
She smiled when she glanced at the romantic setting. "All this for me?"
***
“Always for you” Pietro told her, moving to embrace her and drop a kiss to her lips, “Happy Birthday” he said softly with a smile.
Pietro felt grateful for every moment he had in Madison, but especially the time he had with Alex. He loved her more than anything in the world and life was lighter and happier with her in it.
“Come, sit and eat and you can tell me about your day” he told her, taking her hand to lead her to the laid out and candle lit table before he went to bring over the first course of the meal he’d made.
***
Alex grinned in return, grateful that she could come home and celebrate her birthday like this. It was nice and very sweet. Pietro was the most important person to her, and she loved coming home to him and spending her life with him. That was really all that mattered.
"Awww," she said, happy with everything she was seeing here. She was impressed that he got all of this set up before she arrived. "Thank you. You amaze me every day."
She meant every word of that. She knew how lucky she was to have someone like him.
***
With Pietro’s speed he could make a lot of things happen in short spaces of time but for this he’d actually taken his time and worked on getting everything perfect. Alex was one of the only people he could slow down for and not feel like he was going to explode.
“As you do to me” he said, placing the first dish in front of her, taking his own seat - next to her rather than across from her.
***
Alex appreciated that he slowed down for her. Not that she ever minded his speed, especially to get from one place to another. It was part of who he was, and she would never try to change that, even if she could.
"I am so lucky to have a boyfriend who likes to cook," she said, taking in the wonderful aroma of the meal. "Thank you for this."
She couldn't have asked for a better birthday.
***
Pietro too was glad that Alex didn’t mind the speed, he was careful whenever transporting her not to go too fast. But the fact she didn’t mind sometimes going fast was a welcome thing.
Smiling Pietro beamed at her, “You are welcome. You know I love cooking for you” Madison had allowed him to realise his love of making food and he was glad of that. He had the perfect most decadent chocolate pudding for dessert and had decided that would be when he proposed. His thoughts were somewhat calmer now he had decided.
***
"You are so good at it, too," Alex said sincerely. "You've come so far, and I'm so proud of you."
He started out as such a cooking novice, and he'd grown into a great cook. She even believed he could be an actual accomplished chef if he wanted to be. Whatever he chose to do, she would wholeheartedly support him.
"I love your cooking," she continued. "And you."
There was no doubt about that. Anyone who could hear her tone right now would know how much she meant what she said. They'd see it in her eyes.
***
Pietro smiled, he couldn’t deny that being a chef may well be something he would enjoy. He’d maybe look into it more in the future, his confidence had certainly increased thanks to cooking for everybody on the farm and lessons with Piper.
“I love you too” Pietro said, “More than anything” Taking a deep breath he decided to ignore his previous plans and ask her now, “You are such an incredible woman and I would be honored if you would consent to be my wife” he said as he smoothly slid to one knee and pulled the ring box from his pocket, opening it and holding it out to her.
***
Everything was going so smoothly right now. She'd been enjoying the evening and spending her birthday with Pietro, the most important person in her life. It really was a great night. She hadn't been expecting much else.
Right now? She was the most surprised she had ever been. For a moment, she just stared at the ring, speechless. It wasn't a bad kind of speechless. It was an "this is really happening" kind of speechless. There were times when she wondered if this was something she and Pietro would ever do.
Before she met him, she never dreamed she'd ever be proposed to. It wasn't anything she'd ever considered. All she wanted to do was help innocent people and survive another day. A good life, being settled, and the dream wedding were not things she thought she'd ever have. But it was real now. It really was happening.
"Oh my god," she whispered, eyes tearing up from joy. Yes, this was a happy cry. She knew now that her life was only going to get better.
"Yes. Yes, I will marry you."
***
Pietro had never felt a moment last so long in the time it took Alex to respond, he was starting to wonder if he had gotten things very very wrong as she stared at the ring. For someone who felt like time moved slowly it felt like a lifetime before she replied but when she did he beamed like he’d been given the world and moved to put the ring on her finger before hugging her tightly.
“I love you Alex” he told her pulling back enough to press a kiss to her lips.
Pietro had never imagined marriage and a ‘happily ever after’ kind of love but with Alex he had found it and he planned to keep hold of it too.
***
Alex was now outright crying tears of joy. She wasn't one to get emotional like this, but no one had ever proposed to her before. This was a whole different situation, a good one.
"I love you, too, Pietro," she said truthfully. "I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with you."
Or at least as long as the dome allowed. Now, more than ever, she hoped it'd never send her home again. This was a quiet little town with not always a lot to do, but none of that mattered as long as Alex had people she loved with her, especially Pietro.
***
Pietro held her close, a little in awe that his proposal had moved her so much. Though he couldn’t deny he was feeling rather emotional himself right now. The life he had been given here was one he never wanted to end. His fate back home was set, there was no changing it and so, for him, there was nothing to go back to. But even if there had been he would have chosen being here, with Alex.
“I promise that I will spend the rest of my life loving you and making you happy”
***
Alex hadn't let go ever since he'd put the ring on her finger. At this point, the meal had been abandoned, though she believed she had a pretty good reason for doing so. She wasn't sure she'd ever felt happier than she did at this moment.
"I promise you the same," she said joyfully. "As long as we are both here."
She prayed that would be a very long time, at least until they were old and grey.
***
The meal didn’t matter, it could be heated later if they got hungry. Right now Pietro was too happy to think of food and it wasn’t often that could be said as he was almost always hungry.
He hoped it would be a long time too, he would like to grow old with her here and experience all Madison had to offer them.
