Whatever that feeling was that had started at the beginning of the week, it hadn't gone away. It was always in the back of Nico's mind, an annoying little buzz that he couldn't get rid of, no matter what he did. The world of the dead was out of balance and something wanted him to fix it, even though that something wasn't being clear about what exactly he was supposed to do. Or what exactly was out of balance.

It had gotten to the point where he wasn't sleeping. He was barely eating. He had dark circles under his eyes which made him look more spectral than he usually did. And, as a result of all of that, he was also testier than usual.

Right now he was sitting on a bench by the fountain, drinking a triple espresso. Yeah, yeah, he was just a kid, but he really didn't care at the moment. His next stop was the graveyard, where he'd been many times already, but it seemed like a good place to keep going back to.

He saw movement nearby and raised his head, locking his dark, sunken, and annoyed eyes on the innocent person coming down the street towards him. He didn't say anything, just glared in a way that said he was annoyed because she didn't happen to be the solution to all of his problems.

Two weeks and Elena wasn't feeling any more settled here than the night she first arrived. Rosa was nice and she appreciated having a place to stay with a fellow LGBT Latinx woman, but she missed her family and Syd. And despite seeming normal on the surface, this town was a little too weird, even for someone who loved science fiction.

She was out doing some shopping for school supplies. It might seem silly to start when there were less than two months left, but at least going to classes and doing homework were something normal.

When she walked past a boy who seemed to be around her age glaring at her, she tensed. It wasn't like she was used to being popular or anything. "What?" she asked, glancing down at herself to make sure she didn't have an embarrassing stain or something.

Nico didn't stop glaring, although he did look down. He hadn't really meant to glare at her but it wasn't like he was really bent out of shape that he'd done it. He was in a bad mood and the sort of bad mood that made him wish that everyone else was in a bad mood too.

"Nothing," he said, clearly annoyed. "You're not the reason the world of the dead is out of balance so you can just go now and leave me alone."

	Elena was hardly the most social person in the world and normally she would have just kept walking, but his words piqued her curiosity and she stopped just past him, turning with a confused look. 	"But how do you know?" Elena asked. Everything about this place was weird and simultaneously kind of fascinating and terrifying. 	"Because I can feel it," Nico said simply. "My dad's Hades, Greek god of the dead. I have like...death powers." He wasn't going to tell her right now what all of those were, unless she asked, but he thought that made it pretty clear. 	There was a good chance Elena was never going to get used to this place and hearing things like 'my dad is Hades'. "So, are there other people in town who have death powers?" she asked. 	"Yeah, I have," he said, remembering his conversation with Mitchell which hadn't exactly gone well. "They don't really like me, I don't think. 	"I don't know," he said. "I've been trying to figure it out but I can't. It's frustrating." He shook his head. "Whatever, though. You don't have to listen to me complain."
