WHO: Qrow, Nora, and Weiss WHAT: Rearrival and getting Weiss some help WHEN: Backdated (March 10th) WHERE: In town, then the clinic RATING: Violence, blood, near death experience STATUS: Closed/Completed gdoc
Pretty much everyone had been too busy fighting someone to noticed right away. Qrow himself hadn't seen it happened until it was too late. Weiss had been impaled by a flaming spear, right through her body. She sank to the ground and Qrow had been shocked. Sure he didn't like her family, but he definitely didn't want to see her get hurt.
And out of the corner of his eye, he saw movement and the guy he was fighting took advantage and attacked. Luckily, Qrow was quick and held up his sword to block. But the hit never came. Instead, he was back in Madison Valley, away from all the fighting. It took him a moment to reorient himself and when he did, he saw Weiss laying nearby, bleeding heavily.
"Weiss?" He put his weapon away as he dashed towards her. He came back and so did she, so did that mean... "Nora?" he looked around, hoping the redhead arrived with them.
***
Nora had been near Weiss when the blonde became impaled by the spear, and she had prepared herself to avenge her friend. She had no idea of Weiss would survive being impaled, but she knew that the person who had done it had to go down. No one hurt Weiss, or anyone Nora cared about, and got away with it.
But just as she prepared herself for what was to come next, she stumbled slightly and found herself… back in Madison Valley? What? No! She had to make sure Weiss was okay, she can’t be in Madison Valley now.
She heard Qrow’s voice, and looked around, almost panicky. “Qrow! Where are you?” She finally saw him, near…. was that Weiss? Oh, good. Weiss had returned to Madison Valley with them. But not so good, as she was bleeding heavily on the ground.
“Weiss!” She quickly made her way toward the two, still feeling panicky. This was not good. She didn’t want Weiss hurt. She cared about Weiss, she wanted the blonde to not be injured. “Oh, why couldn’t we have arrived here a few minutes earlier?”
*** "Over here!" Qrow called out. By the time Nora was by their side, he had taken his cape off and applied it to Weiss' injury, adding pressure to stop the bleeding.
He sighed as Nora came over. "I don't know but it doesn't matter. What matters is that we really need to get her help and very soon." He paused for a moment, glancing around and trying to get his bearings.
"I think we're close to the clinic, we can probably get her there quick." And with that, he managed (with Nora's help) to lift Weiss up onto his back and the three of them started making their way to the clinic.
***
Nora took a deep, steadying breath. Panicking was not going to help the situation in the slightest. She knew Weiss could be healed, that there were people here in Madison Valley who could help her. It's just that the amount of blood coming from the blonde was concerning.
She nodded at Qrow's words, and helped him get Weiss up off the ground and onto his back. She followed him to the clinic, sticking close to the two of them. She wanted to make sure that the both of them were able to get to the clinic in one piece. She trusted Qrow with Weiss, but knew that an unconscious person felt heavier than a semi- or fully-conscious one.
She pulled open the clinic door once they arrived, and allowed Qrow to bring Weiss in before following them inside.
Nora made her way to the desk, where a woman sat. "I need help. Or... Weiss needs help. Please, I don't think she has much time..." Nora looked toward Qrow, "Get her to a room, they'll take you. I'll be there soon, I guess I have to give them her information."
*** Qrow too was concerned about the amount of blood Weiss was losing. But he kept his cool. He felt like he had to. If he showed any panic at all, he was afraid he'd set off Nora and cause her to panic. Then that wouldn't be good for any of them.
Luckily for him, Weiss was light but still, they were quite away from the clinic. Plus he was exhausted himself from fighting just prior to returning to town. So he had some difficulty getting to the clinic and was relieved when they made it.
He stood back, allowing Nora to do all the talking. He nodded and followed the woman. Once Weiss was taken in and all settled, he walked out into the waiting room where Nora was.
"They've taken her in. They won't tell me much yet," he sighed as he sat down next to her, setting his weapon down as well as Weiss'. A couple people stared but he barely noticed them.
***
She had settled into a chair in the waiting room when Qrow took Weiss into a room. She knew that her presence in the room with Qrow and Weiss was likely unnecessary. They wouldn’t be able to tell either of them anything until they looked Weiss over, anyway. And the more people in the room meant the doctors or whoever would have less room to work. So she waited.
When Qrow came back out and sat next to her, Nora leaned heavily against him. She was exhausted, from the battle before they arrived in Madison Valley and then the worry about Weiss once they arrived. “Oh, Qrow,” she murmured. She was still worried about Weiss, she would be for quite some time. At least, until she knew completely that she was okay.
“They probably don’t know much yet,” she said softly. After all, Qrow had just taken Weiss into the room not too long ago. There was most likely a lot that had to be done.
Nora was at a loss for words, so she merely remained quiet as they waited. Which probably showed exactly how worried she actually was. Because Nora Valkyrie, being this quiet for an extended period of time? Not a good sign.
*** With his Semblance, Qrow probably figured he'd just make things worse. So he didn't argue at all when the nurse told him to leave and wait outside, even if he did wanted to see if the Schnee girl would be okay. It was just best he wasn't there.
He nodded, sighing a little. "Yeah," he said, patting Nora's hand in an attempt to comfort her. It was definitely odd how quiet she was and while he thought her constant chattering was annoying, now he kind of wish she'd talk.
"So was that really how you discovered your Semblance?" he asked suddenly. "You got struck by lightning and didn't die?"
***
Nora remained leaning against Qrow, she found his presence comforting. Yeah, his Semblance wasn’t all that comforting, but the fact that he was here, in the clinic, was. When he patted her hand, she took his hand within hers and squeezed it lightly. She peered up at him when he started speaking.
He was trying to get her mind off things. Off Weiss. And she was glad for that. So she went with it. “Yeah, I did. It only made me stronger, when it would have killed anyone else.” She smiled a bit at this. “I like my Semblance. ...and I like that it’s similar to what Thor can do. He can create lightning, and thunder. He’s the Norse god of thunder.”
She had been a bit wary when she first heard he was a Norse god. But that wasn’t what made him Thor. So she overlooked that one fact, and was glad for it. She was glad for Thor.
“What about you? How did you discover your Semblance?”
***
"He's a god of thunder? I didn't know that," Qrow said. But then, he hadn't really gotten around to speaking with Thor. Maybe he should now that he was back. Both Thor and Fred, since both of them were obviously very important to Nora and Weiss.
But another time. Now it was more about Weiss and making sure she was going to be okay.
"It was more that I've just started noticing bad things happening around me," he shrugged. "Nothing crazy like getting struck by lightning or discovering it during training like Ruby did."
***
She nodded at his words. Not everyone knew that Thor was a god of thunder, not everyone had heard of Thor before meeting him. She knew she hadn’t. But that was possibly a good thing, it meant she didn’t have any preconceived notions about him or anything. She loved him for him, not because of any ideology. “You should meet him sometime.”
“How do you handle bad things happening all the time?”
Nora wasn’t certain she could handle that.
*** "I should," Qrow agreed. "Maybe after we make sure Ice Princess is okay." And he wasn't meaning to be rude calling her that. Actually, it was quite the opposite. Ice Princess was a sort of affectionate nickname he had for Weiss now. Yes, it annoyed her but he was only teasing. Plus, him calling her by her actual name just showed how serious it was and he was trying not to do that.
"I drink," he replied with a shrug.
***
Nora understood that he wasn’t being rude by calling her Ice Princess. She knew that now. She knew that Qrow had started to feel amiable towards Weiss, that he was actually starting to like her. And she was pleased that he didn’t call her Weiss, it meant that things might actually turn out okay. She hoped that’s what it meant, anyway.
“That’s why you drink?” she asked. “That’s okay, then, I guess.”
She hadn’t known he drank because of his Semblance. Not that she had judged him on his drinking too harshly. She thought he might have a reason for doing so.
*** "For the most part, yeah," he shrugged. Now that he mentioned it, he kind of wanted a drink right now. Except his flask was empty and he needed a refill.
Maybe he'd get something later. Right now, he just wanted to know if Weiss would be okay. It had been awhile since he'd brought her to the room - or, it felt like it's been awhile anyway. For all he knew, it was probably only five minutes or so.
Just then, one of the nurses came in. She explained that Weiss was stabilized and she would be okay. She's slowly gaining consciousness and that if they wanted to visit her, they can.
"You can go first," Qrow told Nora, figuring the two girls should see each other first before he went in.
***
Nora truly hadn’t realized that his Semblance was the reason he drank so much. It was understandable, really. She thought that she might do the same, if her Semblance brought bad things all around her. Luckily, her Semblance didn’t drive her to drinking. She was glad for that.
She continued to lean against him, waiting for someone to come out and tell them that Weiss was okay. Because Weiss had to be okay. She didn’t think she could manage it if she wasn’t. Just when she was about to get up from her spot to see if someone could tell them something about Weiss, a nurse came over to them.
Oh, wonderful. Weiss was okay. She was stable, she was going to be okay.
She beamed at Qrow once the nurse left them, and leaned in to kiss his cheek quickly before getting up to go see Weiss. She stepped into the room, and her gaze went directly to the blonde woman in the bed.
“Weiss,” she said softly.
*** Qrow would go in to see Weiss in a moment. For now, he figured the two girls could use some time alone.
Weiss' eyes fluttered open and she was a bit confused as she looked around. Okay, so she was in some hospital, that much was obvious. Was she in some clinic in Mistral? Did they somehow managed to escape and get her help? If so, where was everyone?
As she looked around, she spotted someone familiar. "Nora?" she said, her voice weak. "What happened? Where are we?"
***
Nora smiled a bit when Weiss opened her eyes. That was a good thing, especially when the blonde started to speak. She appeared confused, which was to be expected. After all, she had lost consciousness in Mistral. She didn’t know they were in Madison Valley.
“We’re back in Madison Valley,” she said softly. “Qrow is here as well. Apparently all three of us got sent home at the same time.”
She settled on the edge of the bed, making sure to give Weiss enough room. She didn’t want to hurt the blonde, or invade her space too much. “How are you feeling?” She was still a bit worried about Weiss, but the woman appeared to be doing okay. She was glad for that. “I am so glad to see you’re awake, Weiss.”
*** "We are? Okay," Weiss nodded slowly. At least she knew where she was, that was all she really wanted to know. "Where is he now?" she asked, wondering where Ruby's uncle was.
She shifted over a bit so Nora had a little bit of room. "I'm okay, just a little sore and tired," she replied. "So what happened? I remember getting impaled by Cinder and then I blacked out, now I'm here talking to you."
***
Nora nodded at Weiss's question. At least Weiss was accepting of the fact that they were back in Madison Valley, and didn't question that fact. "A woman named Liz helped heal you," she offered. "I don't know how, I wasn't in here, but she said you should be good to go home in a few days."
She glanced at the door when Weiss asked about Qrow, "He's in the waiting room. He said he wanted me to come in first. I think he's scared that something bad will happen if he's in here. You know, his Semblance."
Tucking a strand of hair behind her ear, Nora just shrugged. "All I remember is trying to get to you once Cinder impaled you, and then... I was in the streets of Madison Valley. So were you, so was Qrow. We all seemed to arrive back here at the same time. Near the same place."
*** "I'm stuck here for a few days? Well, that's annoying," Weiss rolled her eyes. She hated being cooped up in bed for that long, but she supposed she had to if she wanted to make a full recovery.
"His Semblance? What is it?" she asked. "He never really told me about it, just that bad things happen around him."
She nodded as Nora recanted the story. "And I'm guessing you and Qrow brought me here and this Liz healed me and that's it?"
***
Nora knew that Weiss likely didn't know much about Qrow’s Semblance, so she told her all she knew about it. And told her the rest of the story, of what had happened after they arrived in Madison Valley up until they arrived at the clinic.
She nodded at her friend's question. “Liz was here when we brought you in. She was able to heal to rather quickly, and well, it seems.”
Biting her lower lip lightly, she watched Weiss for a moment. “I'm glad you're okay. I was really worried.”
*** "That is a really terrible Semblance to have," Weiss said, rather bluntly, when Nora told her about Qrow's Semblance. She'd be pretty upset to have something like that. Thank god she had Glyphs instead.
"Of course I'm okay. It's gonna take more than that to take me down." But despite coming across as being confident and unbothered, she was actually a bit scared. She nearly died after all. But she didn't want Nora to see how scared she was. So she put on a brave face for her friend.
***
Nora truly was glad Weiss seemed okay. She didn't want her friend to be hurt, or worse. She was glad they had arrived in Madison when they did, she wasn't sure what would have happened if they had stayed.
She offered Weiss a small smile, and took the blonde’s hand within her own, squeezing it lightly.
“You're going to be okay, Weiss. I'm sure about that.”
*** Weiss nodded, squeezing Nora's hand back. She knew she'd be okay, but she guessed she needed to hear it from someone else. Being so close to death was terrifying. So hearing Nora say that made her feel a little better.
Then she suddenly sat up, wrapping her arms around the redhead. "I was so scared I wasn't going to make it," she said, mumbling against Nora's shoulder.
***
“Oh Weiss,” she said softly, her arms wrapping around the blonde. She hugged the girl as tightly as she could, while making sure that she didn’t cause the blonde any pain while doing so. “I know. I was scared, too, so scared.” She continued to hug Weiss, not wanting to let go just yet.
“But you’re okay. You’re going to be okay.” Nora was certain about this, certain that Weiss was going to be completely okay. Better than okay, most likely.
*** Weiss wasn't normally one to show any sort of affection. She simply never had it at home. She'd grown up thinking it was a sign of weakness, that it was to be avoided. But she had grown a lot since then. And so she didn't think twice about hugging Nora.
"Mmhmm," she mumbled softly. She didn't really have anything else to say. She was okay and she would be. She always was. Most of the time, at least.
She continued hugging Nora until she heard someone clear their throat. She glanced up and saw Qrow standing in the doorway.
"Sorry to break up the tender moment, but the nurse says visiting hours are ending soon," Qrow told Nora and nodded to Weiss. "Good to see you awake, Ice Princess." And he meant that sincerely.
***
Nora was glad for the hug, it could very well have been the first hug she’d received from Weiss. Ever. She knew it was a sign of Weiss changing, of Weiss becoming a different person than she had been before. But she tried not to put too much thought into it, and just hugged the blonde woman. She had been so worried about Weiss, and was glad that she was going to be okay.
She looked toward the door when she heard someone clearing their throat, and smiled at Qrow. Nora knew he’d been just as worried about Weiss as she had been, though he had been trying to hide it. Perhaps he’d been trying to hide it so Nora wouldn’t worry more. Or panic more.
She nodded at Qrow’s words, and rose from her spot on the bed. “I’ll come back and see you tomorrow, Weiss. And every day until you’re released to come home.”
*** Weiss rolled her eyes at Qrow using his little nickname for her, but she couldn't help but smile a little. She knew now it wasn't meant to be rude. In his own way, it was meant to be an affectionate term and she knew that. It was his way of saying he cared, even if it was annoying sometimes.
She turned to Nora. "Good. I could use the company. But hopefully I won't be here for too long." She hated being stuck in the same place for too long. Even more when that place was a hospital. But she suppose she had to for now.
"I'll see you tomorrow," she told Nora before giving the girl one last hug. Once they had left, she settled in bed and closed her eyes. Today had been exhausting and she wanted to sleep for awhile.
