Who: Bjorn Ironside and Torvi
What: Bjorn and Torvi go have breakfast.
When: The morning after this.
Where: Their apartment, then the diner.
Warnings: None.
Status: Closed | Complete
Torvi woke up and it took her a few minutes to realize where she was. A strange town in a strange place. And sore as all get out. She took in a deep breath, happy to breathe in the scent that was all Bjorn. It made her edge of panic fade.
This was okay. She opened her eyes finally then smiled. She'd turned in the night to face him, limbs tangled. She carefully untangled her bad arm from him, a faint whimper as she did so. Every muscle protested the very thought of moving.
She hurt. Using a shield and an axe was exhausting, no matter how much training she'd go through she'd still get tired. She couldn't remember if they'd saved Kattegat though. The thought made her frown. She hoped they had.
“Is it morning?” She yawned.
***
Bjorn was half awake when he felt Torvi shifting in bed. It brought him toward wakefulness, and he yawned a bit as he did so. He rolled over onto his side, and wrapped an arm around her waist. It was nice to be able to wake up beside her, to have her here in Madison Valley with him.
"I think so," he murmured. It was hard to tell sometimes, waking up in a room like this. He was accustomed to waking up with more sunlight. It was likely early morning, Bjorn often woke up early.
He blinked his eyes open, and smiled at the sight of Torvi. He kissed her softly, unable to resist. He could never resist kissing Torvi. He was attracted to her, he loved her. And he was more than happy that she was there.
He snuggled against her for a brief moment. "Have you been awake long?"
***
Torvi smiled, returning his kiss softly, she wasn't going to say no. She already hated the fact she couldn't tell what time it was, there was no easy way to see the rise of the sun. But it was most likely very early, she was used to waking at dawn.
She let out a contented sigh and snuggled close, her one arm held against her, it was pretty stiff today. That she could move it at all was a good sign the arrow had missed important things. And hadn't broken any bones on the way in.
“Mm furs are still more comfortable, I think.” She wasn't too fond of the blanket, but the bed was delightful. She liked that aspect of this place, it was soft. “No, not long,I was thinking this was a dream. I am glad it is not.”
It had been a long time since she'd woken up next to him, and she was in no hurry to move. Her good hand reached up to trail over his face gently, happy to see him and to know he was, in fact, real.
******
He was glad that she wasn't going to say no to the kisses. He rather enjoyed the kisses from Torvi. He enjoyed giving kisses as well. He would likely enjoy more, but he knew she was still healing from her arrow wound. That would not be good.
Bjorn snuggled against her for a moment or two, smiling lightly. Yes, he would have managed in Madison Valley perfectly well on his own, but he was glad he didn't have to. He was glad for Torvi.
"We can get furs," he suggested. Where he could get furs, he had no idea. But he knew that there was some place he could get them. There had to be. These sheets and blankets were all well and good, but Torvi was right. They needed furs. "This is not a dream. It feels like one, though. I thought it might be when I woke up beside you."
His lips brushed against hers once more, his fingers running through her hair. He was glad she was here. It made things feel more normal.
"Are you hungry?"
***
Torvi would like nothing more than more kisses, and more in general, but she was healing and it was going to be a little while before her arm was useful again. Today the bruising was visible across both front and back of her shoulder. The wound was closed, she’d bled a little over night but not a lot. Just when she’d moved funny.
This, though, was a good morning. She was waking up next to Bjorn and happy to do so. There was really no where else she’d rather be most mornings. She closed her eyes as he snuggled close and smiled a bit. She could get used to this. This was alright with her. Madison Valley was going to be terrifying, but that was alright, she had her rock here.
“That would be good.” she said lazily, she didn’t mind the modern bed and all, but she really, really wanted the softness that furs brought. She was used to that and was not a fan of the stiffer feeling of the sheets. “I was so worried it was going to be. That I was going to wake up dead or something. I am glad it is not a dream.”
The soft ghost of a kiss made her smile, head tilting into his fingers. “Please? I’m starving.” she forced herself to sit up, eyes closing as she moved that arm. “Arrows to the shoulder… are awful.”
***
If Torvi wanted to wake up next to him each morning, then Bjorn would make sure that happened. He enjoyed waking up next to her, even as innocently as they did. He did not love Torvi just for the sex, he loved her because she was Torvi.
“This is definitely not a dream, my love. It very feels like one, but I assure you it is not.” He shifted slightly, and his head rested on her stomach. He was content just being there with her, close to her.
But he knew they needed food, and he nodded. He still hadn't quite gotten the hang of the stove or oven, but he knew there were places he could get food already cooked. “Do you want to come with me to get food?” he asked. “We can get breakfast.”
He had found a small diner not too far from the apartment that had good food. Different, but good. “We will have to find a place to get food for here, though.”
***
She did. It was the best way to wake up, honestly. She was happy he wanted her around. Torvi curled her hands around him as he rested against her stomach. She ran her fingers over his hair, it had grown much longer since she'd seen it last.
Torvi nodded, “Let's,I need to move or I'll stay stiff. I don't want to do that. I hurt enough.” She wasn't sure she was going to like the food here, but she was open to trying. New place meant she needed to adapt.
“I'll need something to wear my love,I might not be terribly modest but I don't need the world to see either.” She grinned a bit at him.
***
Bjorn was content just to stay here like this, but he knew they needed food. And Torvi was correct, she shouldn't just stay in bed all day. It would do her some good to get up out of bed.
“Food here is different than back home,” he warned as be got up out of the bed. He pulled on some clothing, and nodded at her words. She was right, she did need some clothes.
So he found her something to wear, something that wasn't covered in blood. “We'll have to get some proper clothing as well.”
***
Torvi made herself get up and moving. It was hard when sleeping for days sounded great. “I am not surprised. I saw enough to know this place was strange in many ways. I was expecting the food to be as well.”
She pulled on what he gave her and looked at herself. “well this will do for now. I suppose I'll need to find fabric and make myself more clothing too.” If things were like the sheets she'd want to make her own.
“What is this place we are going to?” She asked curiously as she located her shoes, they were clean at least. “Oh and I think after I will take another of those baths.” A smirk.
***
“It is called a diner, they seem to sell breakfast all day. I have only been there once, I have not been here much longer than you.” He watched her as she got dressed, pouting slightly as she started to cover herself up.
He smiled at her when she said she'd take another bath after breakfast. He'd had a feeling she would enjoy that aspect of life here. The running water, not having to heat up the water on their own. It was lovely.
“I think they sell already made clothing here. But the styles are all so different. I’d prefer something similar to what we wear at home,” he admitted.
He kissed her softly after she finished dressing, and started out the door.
***
She caught the pout and smiled. “Later, Bjorn.” She promised with a smile, pulling her hair over her shoulder, the messy braid falling low. She pondered fixing it then decided she didn't care.
Torvi waa already in love with the baths. The fact she didn't have to do so much work for such luxury threatened to spoil her. Hot water at ones demand? Who could turn down such a thing??
“I haven't lost my skill in sewing just because I've become a shield maiden.” She grinned at him, fierce and playful at all once. “I would be happy to make you things from home if we can find the supplies.”
She returned his kiss then slipped out the door. She paused to look around again, this time without blinding pain clouding her vision. “There's so… it's so busy.”
***
He caught that she'd seen him pouting, but decided he didn't care. She now knew what was on his mind. He didn't want to hide what was on his mind from her. “Later,” he repeated with a smile.
Bjorn nodded at her words, “I would like clothes from home.” He was sure that they could find the proper items Torvi needed to sew them some clothes. That would be nice.
Allowing her to take in the town as they stepped outside, he remained silent for a moment. He nodded. “There's a lot to take in here.” Which was why he was glad for her appearance here. It would make it easier to adjust.
“This way,” he said, leading the way.
**”
Torvi smirked a bit. They were a very physical people, it was hard for them to not be with the ones they loved. Hurt or not she’d only wait for so long. They'd been apart too long.
“Then I'll find what I need. It can't be that hard in this place I hope.” She'd feel better having something familiar to do. A lot of things she was used to doing with her days were going to be replaced.
Torvi nodded slightly before letting him lead on. “There's a lot here. So much is different.” She wouldn't admit it but it was a little overwhelming. “Whatever we are walking on is such an improvement. I like it.” Muddy paths and grassy trails were hard to navigate sometimes.
Pavement, cement, these things were amazing.
***
Yes, Bjorn was a very physical person. But he had the ability to refrain, especially when he knew it would do more harm than good. She was injured, he didn't want to hurt her more than she already was.
“I can help you find the things,” he offered. No, he wasn't skilled with sewing or making clothing, but he could find the stuff she needed. As long as she told him what it was she needed.
He peered down at the pavement beneath their feet, not sure of the proper word for it. He'd never experienced anything like it before.
“I like it as well,” he admitted. It was so much better than mud. And grass. After a short walk, they arrived at the diner. He pulled the door open, and headed inside.
***
Torvi looked around once inside, the various smells assaulting her. She wasn't sure how to handle this but that was okay. Bjorn was with her. It was slightly less terrifying.
“This is … I'm not sure I have words for this.” She said after a moment looking at him. “I'm sure there are some but I do not know them.” She shook her head then smiled.
“This place is never ending in it's new things, isn't it?”
****
Bjorn understood Torvi being hesitant about this place. He was hesitant as well. He had only been here once, and had only eaten eggs. It was one of the few words he had recognized, when referring to the breakfast foods in the diner. Seriously, what were waffles and hash browns? Perhaps he’d be more adventurous this time. It wouldn’t hurt, right?
“Words escaped me as well,” he admitted. He reached for her hand, and squeezed it lightly. Hopefully reassuring her.
He offered her a small smile, “This place is going to take some time to adjust to, yes.” He was continually assaulted by new sights, sounds, smells. “There are all sorts of new things here. But we will manage.” Bjorn felt as though he could manage anything, now that Torvi was here.
***
Torvi took his hand and smiled. “Of course we will.” she trusted that that would be the case. She looked through the menu - not understanding what it was or the words on the page. Torvi didn’t need to read back home, not much was written and what was, was in runes. She was so out of her element here it was beyond ridiculous.
“I can’t understand any of this. But it looks… interesting.” she said softly then looked up at him. “Are they… are they used to people not knowing things here?” she asked carefully, worried she would stick out terribly.
Torvi was confident, but she was used to adapting to where she could already fit in. Not thrown into the deep end of something she couldn’t even understand.
***
Bjorn shrugged a bit when Torvi said she couldn’t understand anything of what was written on the menu. “I would suggest the eggs,” he offered. “And maybe the bacon if you want some meat with your meal.” That was really all he’d learned from this diner, but that was okay. Bacon and eggs were enough for Bjorn.
He understood she was usually a confident person, and knew that she was out of his element while here in the diner. He knew she would adapt easily in Madison Valley, just not as easily as she would in their home. Or at least, in their time.
He nodded at her question, “They seem to understand that sometimes people may not know what is going on in this time, or this world. They seem accepting.”
***
“Alright I will try that then.” She nodded at him and smiled..she'd figure it all out, refusing to disappoint him in any way. She wanted him to be proud of her here too.
“Thank you. I know I'm not usually this uncertain but..” she trailed off then lifted the glass of water, taking a drink. It was brilliant this place.
“That is good. I am sure I will adjust.” She looked up as they came to ask what they'd like, it took a few tries but she managed to order bacon and eggs.
****
Bjorn did not think that she would be able to disappoint him in any way. He understood that she was new here in Madison Valley, much like he was. It would take some adjusting to the town, to the newness of everything. It would take a great deal for her to disappoint him, especially in this situation.
“I know you are not, Torvi. It will take some time to adjust.” He leaned in and kissed her cheek, before offering her a small, hopefully reassuring smile.
He ordered bacon and eggs for himself as well, and leaned back against his seat. This was all going to be okay. Especially with Torvi here.
