Friday night finally ended when Kaleb had pushed his body to its limit. He was still trying to deal with his anger - rational or not - at Sarissa and her unwillingness to consider a further relationship with him. His eyes bleed black in his anger but his body was shaking having been over worked. So he went back in to the house and showered and climbed into bed. With practice he sent his mind and body into sleep. With the morning sun flooding into the room, Kaleb woke, pulling his mind and body out of sleep. Opening his eyes, Kaleb realised he had no idea who he was. He could feel a need for rigid control within himself, but had no idea why. So he decided that it wasn’t important. Of course, he didn’t know his name either, but there was in his mind something interesting. It took him several minutes to figure out how to interact with the link. Reaching out, he touched it, marveling at its power. It fascinated him. His face creased into a grin as he realised there was someone at the other end. “Hello there!” he called out across it, wondering he was joined with. Must be someone important to generate something so beautiful between them. *** Sarissa had been aware of a presence at the back of her mind from the time she’d woken up, but it wasn’t until now that it woke up and reached out to her. The voice was unfamiliar to her, but she didn’t feel a sense of danger from it: just curiosity and warmth. It made her, in turn, feel a little calmer about the situation she was in. “Hello,” she replied across the bond. “Who is this?” *** Kaleb considered the question and found he didn’t have an answer. That seemed odd, but then perhaps the voice in his mind knew. “I am afraid I don’t remember my name. Odd. Perhaps you know what I am called.” It was the best response he could give to the female at the other end. He found himself interested in knowing what she looked like as he lay back in the bed, arms folded behind his head. *** “No,” came the immediate answer. “I don’t know who you are. This is something that’s affected more than you or I.” She stopped, searched for other presences in this telepathic link of theirs, but couldn’t find anyone else. It must be special, then, this bond. “We have all seem to have lost our memories.” *** “Fascinating,” Kaleb commented, intrigued by the possibility. There had to be a reason behind such an event, but nothing immediately came to mind. Of course his experience was limited to this morning so that was probably why nothing came to mind. “Then we should consider making new memories - perhaps together.” He grinned at the idea - wondering what kind of memories they had made together. The voice in his head was definitely feminine and Kaleb found he was curious about what she looked like. “Perhaps we should meet and discuss how to find our memories together.” A grin flashed across his features again and he had a feeling like it was something he rarely did, but it didn’t matter to him now. What really mattered was getting to see this woman he was attached to. *** “I am in the process now.” The voice was definitely feminine, but there was also a sense of etherealness to it. Its owner wasn’t quite human. An image was sent through the bond: that of a clearing surrounded by lush, vibrant trees. There may still be snow on the ground, but he’d never know it from looking at that scene. “Come find me here.” *** The image was clear, but Kaleb wasn’t certain whether or not he knew where that was or how to get there. “I’ll be there soon,” Kaleb immediately replied though he wasn’t sure how. Climbing out of bed, Kaleb considered the contents of the wardrobe. Most of the objects to wear seemed stiff and constrictive and he passed them by. Choosing instead a pair of loose track pants and a t-shirt, Kaleb dressed as he thought about how he was going to get to the location he had seen. He examined the image and thought about wanting to be there and the next thing he knew, he was there. “Whoa,” he commented, looking around the space. The greenery seemed out of place compared with the frosted winter look outside the space. His black eyes roved around the space, finally landing on the female standing out the center. “Good morning,” he commented, a large grin on his face. *** By now, the Mantle had settled comfortably on Sarissa, held at bay only by her confusion and lack of memory. She was dressed like a fairy queen of summer ought to: in a long, flowing gown made from leaves and flower petals. Her eyes, normally brown, were a bright moss green. “Hello,” she replied. Her smile was like a ray of sunshine, warm and bright. Literally. She looked him over. He was a startlingly handsome man, with dark, dark eyes and features that could’ve been hewn from stone. Interestingly, he’d simply...appeared. Teleported. The man who shared a mind with her obviously had talents of his own. “Have a seat.” An elegant gesture, and a chair formed from the roots of nearby trees appeared in front of him. “What do you know so far?” *** “Very little,” Kaleb said with ease. He settled himself into the chair without a question, impressed by the level of power from the one he shared this link with. Those black eyes roved over her form, taking pleasure in how she looked. She was clearly an epitome of the feminine form. Whoever he was, he definitely had good taste. “Though I clearly have powers as I was able to bring myself here with a mere thought,” Kaleb continued, trawling around in his own mind. “I do not know if those powers are because of the lack of memory or they are something I own naturally. What have you understood or learned?” His head tipped slightly to the side as he awaited her answer, a pleasant smile on his features. *** “My Knight has gone to gather information,” Sarissa replied. She sat down - and as she did so, another chair formed under her. She didn’t take her eyes off him; he really was very nice to look at. “From what the trees tell me, it’s not just us. Most of, if not all of, this town has lost their memories. It must’ve been quite the spell. But to what end, I don’t know yet.” She spoke of magic and spells easily; this was something she must’ve dealt with on a regular basis. *** Those dark eyes watched her. Nothing about the discussion seemed odd so he must use magic or be accustomed to powers of some kind. Though he did have powers of his own so perhaps that was magic like hers - but at the same time he couldn’t hear from the trees. “A knight?” Kaleb looked around, curious. “And who is that?” Oddly something about him was annoyed that he wasn’t this person - that the lady trusted someone other than him. There was no rational part for that thought though. “Regardless, should we consider doing something about it? After all, we seem to be quite powerful.” There was a hint of arrogance in his tone as he assumed his power was at her level. *** A small frown marred her ethereal features. “I don’t know,” Sarissa admitted. “I only know she is my knight. And I am her queen.” She swept her arm in a graceful gesture. “Just as I am queen of this domain.” There was no arrogance in her statement: just fact. She studied him for a moment. “But you...you’re not of this domain. So why are we bonded?” *** A knight was a girl. Kaleb felt much better knowing that information. And he readily accepted that she was a queen - she looked just like one. He certainly didn’t mind being her subject, but then he had to be something more to her. The bond between them was quite powerful and quite intimate so it must mean something. They must mean something to each other to have chosen to be so intimately connected. Again, his elegant shoulders shrugged. Kaleb didn’t have an answer to that question. “Logic says that there must be a reason. The bond would have to have been created willingly on both sides. Perhaps it is because we are a couple.” This time his grin was a bit more of a leer as he decided he liked that suggestion. *** The Mantle flared its opposition, bathing everything in a brighter glow for a moment. But Sarissa was intrigued. She liked the idea as well. If she had to choose a mate, this man - who fairly exuded power - would be it. “If we’re a couple,” she said, speaking through their bond rather than through words, “then it’s a terrible shame we can’t remember each other.” *** “Then we should make new memories,” Kaleb responded using the link as well. Light flared in his black eyes as he let his eyes rove over her body. Kaleb could feel the attraction to her. He clearly must have acted on it before - how could he not have? “Something that we will have to keep with us if we ever lose our memories again,” he added sending mental images of their bodies entwined together on the bed of green grass and flowers surrounding them. Again a slightly cocky grin creased his features - something he never would have done previously. *** Sarissa started to smile at the images - then grimaced as the Mantle flashed its displeasure at the thought. She frowned, trying to reconcile those two warring urges. Why was her power fighting so hard against the idea of her being with him the way they both clearly wanted to be? “This is odd,” she said slowly. “This...sense of being that’s giving me my power doesn’t seem to want me to be with anyone.” It wasn’t something she would’ve readily admitted to him normally, but without her memories, she had no compelling reason not to. *** That did seem odd, but the bond showed they were meant to be together. Kaleb couldn’t reconcile the bond with her magic rejecting such an intimacy. Which meant he needed to remind the magic she wielded that he was meant to be with her as her. Standing up from the chair he had been in, Kaleb moved over so he was beside her. His black eyes flared with a set of sparks as he looked down at her. A long fingered hand reached out to stroke gently across her cheek and down the line of her neck as his mind added the image of his mouth trailing the same path. “Perhaps your power simply needs a reminder of how good we can be together,” Kaleb murmured leaning down to press his forehead against hers, his mouth brushing near hers. *** “I’m willing to put in that effort,” Sarissa murmured back, lifting her face to meet his. His touch was gentle but his arms were strong, and the whisper of his breath near her lips built up an anticipation she wasn’t sure she could’ve gotten from anyone else. It was the most natural thing to do, then, to turn her head - just so - and brush her lips across his. *** Kaleb was more than ready. It seemed to be a natural choice to be with her in such a manner. He might not have his memories, but he was more than willing to make more. His hand slid down into her hair and cupped the back of her head, holding her still as his mouth closed over hers. She tasted like sunshine and warmth and he wanted to bury himself in her, wrapping her essence around him. He feasted on her lips, starting slowly. As much as he wanted her, he didn’t want to rush the process. Even though he could feel his need for her surging to the fore, there was no need to hurry. This should be a leisurely memory to make. So the kisses were slow and gentle, made to make her strive to match his level of need. *** Her Mantle snarled its protest, but as long as Sarissa could suppress it - which she could, at the moment - she was more than happy to do so. Kissing this man she was bonded to was more than just kissing. Because of their bond, she could feel his emotions: his pleasure, his need, his checked hunger. It called to her own needs, and she wrapped her arms around him tightly, pulling him even closer to her as she tried to eradicate any gaps between their bodies. *** Her response heightened his pleasure and made him want more. And so more he took. With his free hand, he reached down and grasped her arm, pulling her up to him. His own powers making the leverage he needed happen with ease. With her body more upright, they were easily in alignment - her soft curved melding to the hard planes of his form. Regardless of his missing memories, this felt right . Through the link between them he felt the push of the Mantle’s demands and he would have dwelled on it further if she did not taste of such pleasure. His powers escaped from his control and roved over her body even as his hands followed suit. Nothing mattered now but her and him and a lot less clothing. *** Sarissa didn’t worry about her Knight returning, or anyone else stumbling across them. Her trees would keep them out, and she didn’t care even someone came across them; she could only think of his lips on hers, his arms around her, and the far too many layers of clothes between them. She kept kissing him even as she turned his shirt into a collection of leaves, which fell away to reveal his bare chest. *** His senses were overwhelmed by the pleasurable sensations that flooded through him at the feel of her hands against his skin. The feelings tore at the control of his abilities, rippling the trees around them. His hands tightened against her, pulling her closer as if he could absorb her into him. Tasting her mouth alone was no longer enough, so he moved to better taste other parts of her. He slid his mouth down the side of her neck, licking and kissing as his power tugged at her dress, looking for more skin to explore. *** Sarissa didn’t have any memory of what happened next. But when she came to, she was deep in the woods, curled up in the gnarled roots of a tree, with blood under her nails and a horrible feeling something had gone terribly wrong. |
