Who: Butters Stotch and Alec Lightwood
When: Sunday Afternoon
Where: The magical land of Walmart~
What: Shopping?
Warnings: TBD
Status: Closed/In-Progress/Match-Up

Even though it had nearly ruined the town of South Park, Butters considered this Walmart to be alright. It wasn't sucking the soul out of people. At least not that he could see. There were even some folks living in town who worked there and they seemed to still be alright.

At least he didn't have the desire to get up at three in the morning to buy plates and cups.

Right now, though, he did need some general supplies. Cereal, vegetables, pasta; he had a list. Lists were always helpful. Dropping some bagels into his cart, Butters turned it rather abruptly. Of course, when he did, he nearly ran into someone else.

"Whoa! Hey! Sorry about that. Just remembered I need some underwear. Didn't want to forget." And maybe a new towel or two.

"... okay, then." Alec wasn't entirely sure he wanted to know the logic in the kid's head. "Underwear's important, yeah."

He stepped back to let the other guy by. "Everybody's got that one thing they need that they forget to put on their list, I guess."

Except for him. Alec Lightwood was That Guy who was too uptight for that shit. It was kind of a failing, really.

"You got that right! Underwear, toilet paper, waffles, celery; always need something!" And it was nice, actually, that you could get everything in one place.

He could understand why the store had become so popular in South Park. Who wouldn't want a one-stop-shop at all hours of the morning?

"You looking for something, too?"

"I've pretty much got everything I needed to get, I think," Alec said. "Right now I'm pretty much just sort of looking around."

Because he was also the guy who did loops of the store as an idle patrol. It was also kind of a failing.

"The real problem is when you come in with the world's longest list -- then it feels like you'll never find it all." That might've been a smile that quirked his lips. Might. Alec wasn't always the greatest with people.

"Tell me about it. I came in one time with two pages and I swear I left with enough stuff for sixteen people. Or more. Maybe a small army." Which was also possible to do in stores like Target and most big box stores like this.

"You go down one aisle and you see something that you don't really need, but they make you think you need it. Probably playing mind games on us."

"Or you see the thing that you realize oh hey you don't need it now but you're going to need it next week for something you're doing so you decide hey why not, I'll just pick it up now."

Even he'd admit that he'd had to deal with that one.

"I'm Alec, by the way," he introduced.

"You got that right!" And with money getting tight, he couldn't just go buying everything without actually needing it. Pretty soon, he'd have to start hitting Kenny up or something. That wasn't something Butters really wanted to do, though.

"Nice to meet you, Alec! I'm Butters!" He offered his hand with a wide grin.

Alec shook Butters' hand, resisting the urge to shake his head. This kid was just weird. But, strangely enough, not nearly as weird as some of the other people he'd met back home.

"How long have you been here? I mean, are you still doing the stocking up on things routine, or are you just scatterbrained and forgetting things?"

Tact... wasn't always in Alec's vocabulary. Sorry, Butters.

"A bit of both, I guess. I mean, it's good to stock up, but, yeah. I forget things a lot, too." Which Butters wasn't afraid to admit, thus Alec's lack of tact had gone completely over his head.

Then again, most things usually did unless Butters was really paying attention. Even then, he did his best to keep the negative away as much as possible.

"Figured if I'm going to forget something, might as well be the list for the store. There are worse things to forget. Like birthdays, social security numbers, blood types."

"I think forgetting your social security number is probably the worst on that list," Alec said, eyeing Butters warily. "You need it for a lot of things."

Not that Shadowhunters really went with that.

"Though I guess forgetting blood types would be a pretty bad thing, too, dpending on the situation."

"Probably pretty likely." Of course, Butters had to wonder what his own blood type was at that moment. Which, when he did, he tended to look off down an aisle. Lost in his own thought.

"Well, I'm going to get a move on. Finish this shopping before I forget anything else. Underwear and toothpaste. Maybe some ice cream. Oh, and some chips."

Butters gave Alec a grin. "Nice to meet you, Alec! Good luck with the rest of your shopping."

[wrap on yours?]

"... thanks." Yep, this kid was definitely weird. But again, he definitely knew weirder.

Like Simon.

Shaking his head, Alec gave a final nod to Butters before moving off -- making a mental note to just never, ever forget anything.

[and wrap!]
