Nico was glad that memory weirdness was over. He didn't like losing his memories. Maybe his life hadn't been perfect...maybe he'd suffered through a lot of tragedy...but that didn't mean that he wanted to forget it all. He didn't want to forget Bianca, for one thing. Or Reyna, who had strangely become his best friend his world. All a person was, in Nico's opinion, was because of their memories. Your memories made you who you were.

But just like always, Madison Valley had reversed it's little bit of screwiness and things were more or less back to normal. At least he hadn't done anything stupid while he was without his memories. He'd raised a few forest creatures from the dead, yeah, but that wasn't that big of a deal, as it was.

Last night Marco had spent hanging out with Star, which was fine with Nico. But tonight he was coming over, and Nico really couldn't wait. He didn't know if he'd go quite so far as to say that Marco was his boyfriend, but they were definitely getting close to that sort of idea. He'd built up the fire to keep it warm and had bought all sort of snacks. It would be nice to spend some time with Marco, now that he remembered who he was again.

Marco had spent the time without his memory in the house with Adam and Sam. He hadn't done much, really. He'd read and watched TV and been a model son. It was really kind of sad, that without his memory he was pretty much nothing and nobody.

But he had his memory back now, and he was looking forward to spending some time with Nico. He made a batch of his nachos, and headed to the cave. He hated that he'd forgotten Nico and Star and everything else that mattered to him, but there was some comfort in the fact that he hadn't done it on purpose.

"Nico?" he called when he was getting close.

Nico poked his head out from the entrance to the cave, and smiled a little when he saw Marco. Not that anyone else really knew where he lived out here (and he liked it that way), but he was glad to see him all the same.

"Hey," he said. "Come on in."

Moving back inside, he sat on the floor near the fire.

"I missed you. Even when I didn't remember you, I think." He'd just felt emptier. And he thought that was why.

"I missed...something," He'd had no friends, which left him feeling empty. Marco was a social guy. He liked having friends, talking to people, hanging out and doing things. He attributed the loneliness he'd felt to missing Nico as well as Star.

"I brought nachos," he said, holding out the container he carried. His nachos were the best, and he liked sharing them with Nico. Even if they were kind of cold by the time he got to the cave, they were still good.

Nico didn't really are that the nachos were cold. They were awesome enough that they were still good that way, which was really saying something about how good they actually were. Not all nachos would be good a little bit limp from the cheese and lukewarm.

But Marco's were.

He wondered if that was partly because they were Marco's nachos, but he really didn't feel like examining that too deeply right now.

"As much as I hate being me sometimes," he said. "I don't want to forget who I am."

Marco nodded. "I know what you mean." He didn't hate being himself. He kind of loved his life. He was best friends with Star, he was kind of dating Nico. They hadn't gotten to the point of calling it dating yet, but that's very much what it was.

He grabbed a nacho and stuffed it in his mouth. "Not knowing who I was was weird. It felt...strange. And now that I remember, it feels even weirder. Like I feel like I was missing you, even though I didn't even know you. But of course I didn't know you, I didn't even know me. I'm glad to be me again, and really glad to be here with you right now."

He appreciated that Nico didn't mind that he'd spent yesterday with Star. He had needed that. But today, and tonight, he was completely focused on being with Nico.

Nico was trying to learn to trust. He wasn't that good at it yet - well, honestly, he wasn't good at it at all, but he was trying to learn to be a better person and not constantly question people's motives and actions. It was hard for him, but he was trying. So he trusted that Marco and Star were just friends, and that if it was more than that Marco would at least have the decency to tell him.

"I just hate when everything gets screwed up. It's like the town likes making us miserable. Like we're just labrats or something."

And he didn't like that at all.

Marco thought of the guy who posted about Madison Valley being an ant farm or a fish bowl. Maybe he wasn't wrong. Marco didn't really want to think about that, though.

"It does seem like that, sometimes," he said. He reached for Nico's hand. he felt the need to touch him, to give him a little reassuring squeeze. "But I mean. We found each other. And that's, I don't know. Maybe the friendships we make here are worth putting up with the other stuff."

"Maybe," he said. He'd have to think about that a while before he accepted it completely one way or another. It wasn't that easy most of the time. It just wasn't. And for every good thing that happened to you, Karma expected payment in some way. He'd learned that in his short life, too.

He squeezed Marco's hand.

"Anyway, we don't have to worry about it for a while again. I hope."

	"I hope not too." Marco looked down at their hands. He liked having Nico's hand in his. It felt right. He decided to take a chance. He shifted, setting the nachos aside, he leaned in and kissed Nico's lips. He liked kissing Nico, even more than he liked holding Nico's hand. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

	Nico was a little surprised at first. A few years ago, he would have freaked out. But this time, he didn't. He just kind of leaned a little and kissed him back. It was nice, and he liked it, and since Marco had initiated it, he didn't have to worry about getting rejected. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

After a moment, Marco pulled back. He touched his forehead to Nico's for second, then stood up fully and just looked at him. He hated that Nico still worried about rejection. He didn't think there was anything Nico could do that would make Marco push him away.

Marco had never liked boys before. He'd like Jackie Lyn Thomas and he'd liked Star. But there was something about Nico. The fact he was a boy was only one facet of who and what he was. Marco didn't like him because he was a boy. He liked him because he was Nico.

Nico had never liked girls before. Never. He'd never had a crush on one or thought about kissing one. He just never had. He'd always been weird that way. But more and more he was coming to accept that there was nothing wrong about his particular brand of weirdness. It was who he was, and it was nothing to be ashamed of.

"That was nice," he said softly, looking at Marco. His eyes were as dark as always, but there was something sweet and almost vulnerable sparkling in them.

He had no desire to leave the cave right then, and the fact that he sat down instead of walking out showed that. He patted the space beside himself. "Come, Nico. Sit here with me." 	"No, I definitely didn't mean it." Marco put his hand out to clasp Nico's. "I'm not going anywhere for a good long while," he said. Because he wasn't. He was happy to be here, to spend time with Nico. He leaned in, after a moment, and kissed Nico again. "I'm really happy to be here with you right now."
